Global Warming as a product of what man has done has not been proven. Even the UN has determined that it is "most likely", or some other really super scientific term, that man is the reason for warming. The reason they say that is to hedge their bet. That is not science, Katie. To treat it as such makes one look silly. Also, your buddy, Mr. Gore is obviously an energy consuming hog. Do you ever feel like you are at Jim Jones compound? You have drank the Kool-Aid. If you really want to further the cause of science use your bully pulpit to demand facts. You are supposed to be the objective, inquisitive one. No?

I'm just grateful that our nation is still free enough that I can mock and condemn the efforts of Couric and Gore. The mainstream media and liberal politics are attempting to compel the nation to buy into the expensive and wholly unnecessary sham that is global warming.

I took the opportunity to leave the television turned off during the Oscars. It's best not to waste one's time on mindless drivel. Hollywood simply is not important to many Americans. Hollywood is only a useful gauge to measure the breadth of leftist ideals.

"Gore has repeatedly said the environment is not a Democratic or Republican issue; it%u2019s a moral issue. But now that Hollywood has so completely embraced the former vice president, one wonders if this issue will be associated only with liberal causes."

This quote indicates the blatant arrogance Couric displays to think we're so unintelligent that we haven't long recognized that environmentalism is associated with liberal causes.

It's also foolishly arrogant to think that mankind can materially affect the "delicate balance of this planet"but humanistic environmentalists embrace this view.

If a politician says he's pro-environmentalism I vote for his opponent. Because I disdain mainstream media I tune it out and turn it off.

Katie,
How did the last Ice age manage to warm up without help from Republicans?

Anyway...what this adds up to is just another example of Liberals screaming about how the sky is falling. The only thing missing is the sandwich boards and hippie beards claiming how "the end is near". It will be interesting to see if my comments pass the censorship of the moderator. I doubt it...since the tolerant Liberals running this site for CBS generally hate Free Speech if it doesn't fall in line with their thought patterns.

Are you serious? How does anyone take Al Gore seriously? He lectures to the little people about our energy usage but used private jets, has a mansion that consumes more energy in a month than most of use in two years. Ever seen one of his motorcades? A line of SUV's and limos two blocks long. He's a hypocrite, liar, and a jackass.

Katie, in your words, global warming is "a school of thought that%u2019s been validated by countless scientists worldwide". The key word is validated. Validated by consensus...NOT by proof. More and more scientist are calling the whole global warming thing bogus. It's political and geared to help the left take more control of the economy, of peoples lives, and thereby more power. Humans long ago would pray to the sun god, the rain god, the god of fire, and so on. Liberals today are praying to the environment god...their only god. In the late 70's it was global cooling. Please, study this before you express a hope that we start doing things to stop it. It can keep you from looking bad or unknowing.

Gore is nothing but a man who is still flailing about, trying to be important. His narcissism is only matched by those in Hollywood. While they were all slapping each other on their backs at the mutual love fest that was the Oscars, claiming to be oh so Earth friendly, they completely ignored all the pollution generated by the parties they went to and hosted, all the electricity and such their parties and awards ceremony created nor all the pollution the limosines and entourages created in arriving and traipsing all over Hollywood that night. Hypocrisy knows no bounds when it comes to Liberalism, and denial is not just a river in Egypt. If they really want to win people over to their cause, maybe they should practice what they preach instead of the same old cry the Liberals have of "Do as I command, not as I do".

Katie,

April fools is next month.

We know the drill: Al Gore , A-Lar two famous ecological false alarms.

I guess the 18th anniversary of the Alar scare courtesy of CBS on February 26,1989 is the right time to try to black mail the US citizens. Do you have a stake with the kid's selling carbon offsets?

I'll gladly pay you tuesday for a carbon offset today.

I just love how the Libbies all stick up for each other. Gore's movie has been debunked by many people...yet it is still treated as the Video Bible for tree huggers. Gore is constantly shown to be one heck of a wasteful polluter, but then claims he is "carbon neutral" because he pays money to some company to offset the tons of pollution his motorcades, jets and houses spit into the air, and still he is an icon. Then the Libbies...just like 'ol Katie did here, claim that any "scientist" who claims human made global warming is real is a true and just scientist worthy of awards and the Nobel Prize, but any scientist that debunks man made Global Warming and shows what a crock it is is obviously on the payroll of oil companies. Their scienists=good, other scientists=bad. Forget that the rate at which the earth has risen in temperature is equal to the rate at which the sun has increased as well as Mars has increased in temperature.

This entry by Couric is precisely why it is hard to take environmentalists, and journalists like her, seriously--they simply parrot what others say until "truth" by popular consensus creates a life (read hysteria) of its own.

Evidence? I recommend you start with this article (url below) by Richard Lindzen, Professor of Atmospheric Science at M.I.T. Contrary to Couric's ad hominem assertion, he and many others like him are not in the pocket of "big oil" etc.

Seeing the chaff of Hollywood associating with the personality disorder who ran for president, and then the new and improved gravitas-free anchorwoman commenting on the whole thing... well it is hard to know who could possibly drag down whom.

Katie.....do you people care at all about ratings? Or is your focus manipulating the public at any cost. Wasn't it Josef Goebbels who said %u201CIf you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.%u201D

He would be proud of you and your ilk.

It sounds, Katie, as though you mean Bush just recently mentioned "reducing our dependence on foreign oil" for the first time. He's been saying this since his first presidential campaign.

Katie, you are beautiful, but use your brain and read The Bible to see what it says about the Earth. God created the Earth, and man is not destroying it or warming it. Warming is caused by weather variations from solar cycles! Do you mean in the 1970's global cooling is occuring and in the 1980's global warming begins? How else do explain the same heating up of Mars? Is Exxon drilling oil there too and are Republicans driving SUVs there too? I have always heard that a person who does not believe in God will believe in anything!

People don't need Hollywood's "embrace" of Al Gore as an excuse to condemn or mock anything - Hollywood does a fine job of making fools of themselves, all by themselves. Their blatant hypocrisy is all it takes. Sorry, Katie, but $30,000 couture dresses, or $30,000 annual utility bills - certainly putting their money where their mouths are, rather than condeming us little people who do, in fact, try to keep costs down (because we cannot afford not to) and do our recycling duty, and try to drive fuel efficient vehicles (because we cannot afford not to)would go a long way towards strengthening their credibility. But it hasn't, and never will be the case, because they love to live their lavish, overblown life styles and preach to the rest of us with their "Do as I say not as I do" sermons.

Perhaps Saint Owlgore will find that his religion of global warming has indeed gone too far, considering the fact that he apparantly thinks "changing the way we live" only applies to the little people and their SUVs rather than himself and his $30,000 a year power bill and private jets. How nice and "convenient" if all we had to do to achieve morality was to turn down the thermostat and change out a few light bulbs. What hypocrisy!

I just love limosine liberals. They want to tell us that we are the problem and we need to change our lives. They, on the other hand, are excluded from the new rules. After all, they ARE the elite.
