President Bush ( alias Karl Rove ) had his "FEAR MONGERING IN FULL ATTACK MODE" today.
Sorry, but it is not going to work. Americans do not believe that MILLIONS of AL Queada operatives will invade the US if we start withdrawing troops from Iraq. Malaki has stated that his government will be ready to assume the security of his country by the end of this year. He also believes part of the violence is due to the US presence.Bush prefers to put our teenage troops in the middle of a civil war. How many Al Queada have we killed or captured with our 130,000 troops in the past six months? 5? 10? 50?
How many Al Qaeda terrorist were in Iraq in March 2003? How many Al Qaeda and other terrorists that want to kill Americans are in Iraq today? How many American teenagers have been killed, wounded or seriously wounded ( Limbs blown off)in Iraq since March 2003?
Bushy Bush stated that Hezbollah is the second largest terrorist organization in the world and it in addition to Al Queda also wants to destroy America. FINE! There is a large number of Al Qeada and other terrorists in
Pakistan. Have we invaded Pakistan like he promised ("we will hunt them down where they live")

Will the prisoners continued to be tortured in the prisons overseas in countries that have not signed the Geneva Conventions? His statements today seem to be just more CYA and an attempt to thwart legal action against members of the Bush Administration including Bush himself.

- I was so angered by the propaganda piece that aired tonight. The answer to the question"are we safer?" is a resounding NO. The world is far more dangerous than it was 5 years ago. Just look at what the 9/11 Commission has to say about all the things that HAVEN'T been done! As to Ms. Courics' photo & sound bite op with Bush - shameful. Combine this with the upcoming propaganda pseudo-docu-drama on ABC & it's painfully obvious that while (or maybe "because") the public is finally seeing through the lies & incompetence of the bush administration, the MSM (who have happily hidden behind the false label of "liberal media") are showing their true colors - bright red.

- As a long-time viewer of the CBS Evening News, I was truly looking forward to Katie taking over.
After seeing her supposed interview with the President, and hearing that she is allowing Rush Limbaugh to spew forth his partisan filth, I will no longer be viewing this newscast.
You had an opportunity to ask some touch questions, but you just read from the script that this White House is pushing in order to control through fear.
This country needs journalists that will stand up to the wrongs of this Administration, not someone who will allow them to continue on with the same propoganda that Hitler used.

- I was looking forward to watching Katie Couric on the evening news. I was sorely disappointed when I watched the news tonight. The questions she asked the president seemed to be written by White House Staff. What happend to good old fashioned reporting where an anchor would ask the tough questions? This was an appalling start. I was so disgusted with the interview that I switched channels to NBC. I was happy I did, there was a great story by investigative reporter Lisa Myers. She asked the hard questions about an army contract with Raytheon.I That was real jounalism. Not fluff. If I wanted fluff I wouldn't be watching the evening news. I am sad to see the path that CBS is taking. I guess I will be watching NBC more often.

- Let's not blame Katie Couric for the transformation of a bona-fide news broadcast into a "show" that contains some news amid trivia and small talk. She is only the most conspicuous symbol of the radical changes that have been occurring within CBS News since the departure of Dan Rather.
This assault has the fingerprints of Les Moonves all over it. This is the same Viacom-appointed CEO who gleefully expressed his desire to "blow up" CBS News. Perhaps he is pleased to see his wish come true.
I am sad to witness the piece by piece dismantling of this distinguished news institution, one that CBS journalists past and present built through considerable toil and perspiration and sacrifice and even risk of life. Some of these people are legends and household names; but most are behind-the-scenes employees who never received public notice for their valuable contributions.
It takes so long to create something worthwhile, yet only days to tear it down. - Reply to this comment

- Katie, I'm sorry you allowed and encouraged the new spin from the adminstration. You are not yet a newswoman. I mostly regret that many viewers who tuned in to "Are We Safer?" to see you got propoganda instead of news. After watching your special, I watched BBC News and Travis Smiley. That was news and hard-hitting interviewing. Please don't decieve the viewers who followed you from the Today Show and watch no other news that you are giving balanced reporting.

- Well 2 nights, and strike two. One more, and I'm back to Brian Williams. Katie needs to make a choice between those of us that just want the facts about the most important national and international events of the day - or - perhaps attract a new audience from those that watch Larry King and Oprah, and are really interested in seeing pictures of the Cruise baby, or participating in a contest to help find the words to close the show, or listening to some pundit's view.
She may have the talent, but it hasn't shown yet - especially in her interview of the President -- not one tough follow-up question.

- Between Rush Limbaugh coming on "Free Speech" and the cozy little can I get you a cup of tea, "Mr President" scene today, Katie, you're losing me. Looked forward to seeing you, but going back to NBC if you don't get into some hard-hitting news reporting. I can see "interviews" on ET, Access Hollywood, Regis & Kelly, lots of places. Don't need them on the evening news! I want to know if the CIA is Bush's personal SS or Gestapo and how on earth he can manage to use your premier audience for free soft-soaping his prisoner release from those secret prisons he told us didn't exist??? I AM SO DISAPPOINTED!!!!

- Dear Ms. Couric: I think you are off to a great start at CBS. As I see it, most of the criticism you are receiving is mostly fluff especially in light of the fact that you have only two days on the job. Personally I hope to see you develop into a strong voice for "free speach" and all of our rights by tough reporting in the CBS tradition. Regarding the "(unlimited)global (hopefully not thermonuclear) war on terror" as Bush puts it, how about someone smarter than I coming up with a way to convince the people of the US that perhaps our government should look into the reasons that the "terrorists" came to hate us so much? As I recall, one concise statement by Bin Laden said something like "get out of our lands and we won't have a reason to bring the fight to your lands". Your show tonight clarifies one certainty: we can't afford the path we are on. If the world wide (un) popularity of Bush does not motivate the US to change course during the next two elections and save ourselves, I fear that the possibility of human extinction from the effects of global warming may be a good choice for "Mother Earth" to save herself.

- I think they should change Walter Cronkite's lead in to, "This is the CBS Evening Fluff with Katie Couric." The Evening News with Bob Schieffer or Dan Rather may not have been perfect, but at least I felt I like I was getting a newscast. I am fully aware that I can get all of the news I want on the Web or in a newspaper, but it's insulting for CBS to pass the broadcast in its current construct as a newscast. Most news viewers don't care what signoff the anchor uses or about Tom Cruise's baby. I don't want to have to switch newscasts, but unless the substance improves I'll be forced too. I would guess that I'm not the only one who feels this way too.

- I was really hoping for a change in the Nightly News when I heard Katie Couric was doing the CBS Evening News. But as it appears its less of the daily news and more of the tabloid news magazine programing that belongs after the Daily news broadcast. If this is what its going to be like, please put a ticker tape of the Daily news on the bottom of the screen while CBS puts on their feel good human interest stories that mean nothing. How about a half hour of the Daily news, not just 15 minutes as was the practice. It would be a winner.
