Some suggestions:

Drop "Free Speech". That segment served no purpose. Her choice of picking that idiot from "Super Size Me" was really poor. It's also idiotic that she's going to have Rush Limbaugh on Thursday. He already gets more free speech than he deserves on his radio show.

Don't cram too many stories in 60 seconds, like she did with the Steve Irwin tragedy.

You're giving air time to Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes' baby was also pointless.

Don't open the newscast with "Hi everyone". "Good evening" will do.

Here's a closing line for you: "I'm Katie Couric, I don't really belong here, but who gives a rip?"

And I forgot to say. I liked how you signed off last night.

I enjoyed what I was able to watch last night. I like the free speech segment. Will you have non actors speak? I agreed with him, btw. I loved your definition of the word. Why is it that men can be overweight and have gray hair, but a woman doesn't dare. Why can men wear a suit and tie and the only thing that changes is the color of the tie? Keep being yourself!! I love it! I just wish it were longer than 30 minutes.

Katie:

The story about the Taliban was a bold lead, and bolder still was the time devoted to it. Nice to watch a news program that treats me like an adult with an attention span of more than 3 seconds.

And it's great to have you back on the air. Keep up the great work!

Good job, Katie. You're new to me because I never watch the morning shows, but I'll sure watch you now. "Good night" is always an appropriate sign-off, and I don't care what you wear. (For cryin' out loud, fellow viewers!)

Congratulations Katie! Fresh, informative, thought provoking are just a few words I would use to describe tonights broadcast. I enjoyed it immensely. I know you and your team will be "tweaking" the format and I look forward to the new and exciting contributions you will make to CBS.

By the way, Ms. Couric, you have no "gravitas." It was difficult to follow you as you went from one story to the next with poor transitionary speech. You are monotone and quite frankly annoying.

Being a CBS news watcher since 1969, I did find tonights broadcast "fresh" and new. I think though, the nightly news should be at least 45-60 mins. long. With everything happening in the world 30 mins. is not enough. Good luck and great job.
