- Well done, Katie! Great first show and the new segments were terrific. Be sure to read Art Buchwald's column today if you haven't seen it --he's rooting for you and made the point that the public would NEVER discuss how a female print journalist looks or what they wore. Indeed, he says we often don't know the *** of a print journalist. Nor would we often discuss how a male journalist looks. For the record, you looked great and it didn't come off as "perky" --it was professional. It's unfortunate that the Web has become a refuge for people seeking an outlet for mean, critical and harsh commentary. Success is the best revenge. Again, congrats!

- Katie, oh Katie! The first broadcast was at the very least, disappointing. We were hoping to see you as a serious commentator.......not just continuing the "Fluff" from the Today Show. This sort of reporting belongs to a show aiming for entertainment over information.
And what's up with the new face? - Reply to this comment
- Great job, Katie! Relax and enjoy...it's going to be a long ride.

- Great job! I just switched to Katie! Love the good news segments, love free speach and the backstory with Tom Freidman

- Thanks Katie, Great Job! I hope you can keep it real so I don't have to go back to Seinfeld reruns. Can't wait for tomorrow.

- Hi Katie!
I started watching Today because of you and wouldn't have missed your debut on evening news for anything. I thought it was great. Best of luck to you and everyone at CBS News. I'll be watching to see how things go.
Best Wishes,

- Between commercials you only have 20 minutes to report the news. Could you just give us the news? If I wanted to hear somebody's opinion I'd turn on talk radio. If I wanted to see Tom Cruise's baby I'd buy a copy of Vanity Fair. Rush Limbaugh has his own show and doesn't need yours. You know what would be really refreshing, a news show that just reported real news.

- congratulations katie.. you are genuine, smart, insightful and comfortable.. wishing you the best as you continue to help the rest of the world understand just how much women have to contribute.
especially delighted with the 'free speech' segment. i've been wondering if anyone was noticing or concerned that respect for our most sacred value has been rapidly eroding. at our most fundamental level as a country, we are nothing without it. thanks for calling attention to this vital need and for giving it airtime. - Reply to this comment
- a great newscast. not a pejorative "cute and perky" but a real person presenting "news"...look, this isn't the new york times, but it is an enjoyable half hour (22 minutes) of interesting, informative , hard news. i am hooked!!!!
thanks katie!!! - Reply to this comment
- Katie - just watched your news (last few minutes) and I'm happy to see your familiar face again! The last time I watched the evening news faithfully was with Tom on NBC, and I miss his familiar face. He was stern but kind, knowledgeable but understanding.
In my opinion, there is nothing wrong with perky or showing your femine side - in reality it's a quality missing in most broadcasts. I look forward to watching you over the next few months as kinks are worked out. "I hope to see you tomorrow" was a fine way of ending your broadcast. - Reply to this comment
- Congratulations CBS, you hired the perfect loser to bring down your ratings. Keep up your good work.

- There is little enough time alloocated to the evening (preferably hard) news. You've lost us quickly by airing viewer comments and opinions. Leave that to the talk shows and "reality" TV.

- Oh, what a shame. Katie looks like she's had an eye job & has been botox'ed within an inch of her life. Why in the world did America's sweetheart feel like she needed to alter her physical attributes? I am so disappointed; I expected more of her. I know everyone wants to look their best but there is a balance between being confident on the inside and not offending on the outside. Katie has such natural beauty. I am so disappointed that she obviously felt the pressure to sucumb to the health care profession's pressures to "look good". She has lost my respect.

- Well I just watched the first three stories of Ms. Couric's first news broadcast, and guess what - it's a liberal left leaning program just like past broadcasts. I gave it a chance and they blew it already, first siding with the Taliban and then interviewing an obvious liberal leaning NYTIMES journalist. Good job Katie, welcome to low ratings and continuing decline for CBS. Congratualtions.

- There is nothing wrong with cute and perky. Or would you prefer a dullard who just leads into each story with here's (reporter's name) and leaves it at that?

- Good luck lady. Like the poster before me, I haven't watched the nightly news ANYWHERE for an age, but I have a feeling you have what it takes to bring a few of us back. Your record of persistence, your spirit of endurance and your ability are all working for you.
