It is my belief that the only way to stop this *** from happening is to get our people off of this terrible drug. If we don''''t buy it, they have nothing to do with it except ruin their own people. This is how our country is allowing foriegn countires to infultrate our nation, being hooked on a drug I wished could be dis-invented. Only a moron would take that ***. Posted by mitchoncbs"

Drug abuse is not going to go away. I wish I was wrong but its a fact. The only question now is how to make the best out of this horrible situation. The priority should be to stop the violence. Making the drugs legal will do that. The we need to create an intense education campaign and treatment program funded by the sale of drugs. The cartels will go away and those addicted will have treatment options now unavailable due to cost, and we the drug free public will be much safer.

some of you people will work politics into a goat killing. If your relatives were kidnapped because of drugs you be hollering at the american envoy to mexico.the president of mexico has the authority to shut down these people with the military but he is and will remain a two faced criminal of the worst order.a scurge on man kind. I hate drugs and the scourge of addiction and the crime that ensues. But wait, it isn''t the drugs that create the violent crime its the drug laws making them illegal. When someone gets kidnapped by a drug cartel, it is the government that empowers the cartel by giving them a monopoly of sorts. It was no different with alcohol during Prohibition, and it wasn''t until the repeal of the law that the lawlessness ended. The same will be true for drugs. Get rid of the laws and have the govt control the substances like they do with alcohol and legal drugs, and much of the problems especially with the violence will go away.

Nobody has the power to shut down these cartels. As soon as you wipe one out, there is another one waiting in the wings. It''s amazing that this country has not yet realized the fact that there will never be a way to eradicate the violence of the drug trade while drugs remain illegal.

The illegality of drugs is what creates the drug violence we hear about every day in the news. As long as drugs remain illegal there will be incentive for huge profits. Why is heroin and cocaine so much more expensive to the average user than say, marijuana? The stiffer the jail sentence connected with distribution of a drug has a direct correlation to the market price of said drug. The higher the stakes, the higher the potential for profit. The higher the potential for profit, the higher the potential for violence.

Frankly I''m AMAZED that CBS has even given this issue a second look.

All too often they paint the familiar sob story of an illegal alien facing deportation and leaving childen here for local communities to support through welfare.

biblethumpar: why not repeal the prohibition and take the financial huge incentives away from the bad guys? those who complain that drug dealers have too much power are like the guy who killed both his parents and then begs for mercy because he is an orphan.

I am not worried because this only happens to liberals because only liberals do drugs.

Instead of our troops protecting our borders and stopping illegal immigration they have been in Iraq for 5 1/2 yrs. Our troops are needed here to stop the cartels from setting up shop here and acting just like they do in Mexico, Central and SOuth America.

It is so bad the Mexican Army drives back and forth across the border when ever they want to. Do you not think they are hauling large amounts of drugs and weapons for the cartels? Of course they are!!

Organised Cartels Should be reclassified as Terrorist Organisations, we should reclassify them as much greater threat to society.
Both Countries should make this type of offence
a capital punsihment....
but in all fairness, due Process should prevail,

Let''s take a poll (a Liberal Media Poll). Question: How many of the drug users in this country are Liberals? We already know the dealers are Capitalist. Conservatives need not participate; we know you don''t use drugs. We can then use this poll as a random sample in market research. Then we can have another (Liberal Media Poll) to determine which market is best for supporting those drug sales. The Columbian, Mexican or US drug market. Which ever market provides the best service, product and price is the one the Liberals can go with. This creates a free market environment, which in turn assist the Liberals in a Capitalist economy and society.

It may have been F.D.R.''s admin that passed the tax act, but, it was William Hearst that bankrolled it. He did not want hemp grown as a commercial crop. It was cheaper to use than the paper coming from his saw mills. Hearst and his ilk owned Hollywood. He financed the production of several anti marijuana films to excite the public into voting for strict laws.
The first Model A Ford had HEMP woven seats!!
