Soaring Prices Put Enormous Pressure On Consumers And The Companies That Deliver Oil
- I quote an early internet report. At the beginning of Bush''''s first term, VP Cheney held a series of meetings with high level oil executives. These meetings, although held on government time and using government resources, were barred to the public. At these meetings, it was agreed that the administration would not aggressively seek to develop alternative fuel sources. Ever since then, despite numerous FOIA actions and court decisions, the government has never allowed transcripts of these meetings to be made public. The shortage of heating resources is one of the major consequences of these meetings.

Actually, those meetings, many of which were reported on in the summer of 2001, were said to have granted certain energy companies to set up monopolies in CA that resulted in their energy crisis and later made the state buy their resources from AZ and other states. As a consequence of these meetings, the avg electricity bill went from about 200/month to over 1200.00 per month in a 6 month period. One of the main benefactors of these meetings was ENRON. When this news started leaking out and an investigation was suggested--lo and behold, we had 911 and so all the hoopla was tabled. After that, Cheney declared his part in the entire thing was top secret--claiming executive privilege and the need to not disclose the games he participated in. - Reply to this comment
- No way should Copes pay twice. The government should step in and pay for the oil of every person that paid those oil companies--then maybe that will give them true incentive to actually go after the people who took the money and knew they probably would not be able to deliver the product. Maybe this country is headed for another Katrina moment--New England winter style. Amazng, from 1999 to now, gas went from .99/gal to over 4/gal and Americans hardly balked.

- Despite recent drop in crude oil, the cost of home heating oil averages $3.13 a gallon. The steep price tag is putting unprecedented pressure on consumers and the companies that deliver oil in the Northeast.
What a distortion? This story is not coming out of the horses''s mouth. As of yesterday Here heating oil is selling at Leighow''s Oil Company for 3.89/9 per gallon. Where does this reporter come up with 3.13 a gallon? If so how does that put unprecedented pressure on the companies that deliver oil??
I know, I know Congress will pass another bill to FINE the Companies that are selling heating oil at excessive profit, call it price gouging, and case will be closed. We, the people can count on our Fiends in Washington, Right?? Where''s Edwards, Clinton, & Jackson when you need them. Why this is another INSANE job on the people. - Reply to this comment
- When will Speaker Polosi and Obama start to realize they have to stop catering to the Extreme Liberals. We need to Drill, and we need to Drill yesterday.

- I have been saying that very same thing going on 2 yrs now. Bush and Cheney should be ashamed of themselves. And should be locked-up for what they have done to America. The p/ricks.

Whooo. Do a little research before you start blaming individuals. Remember before the Democrat Controlled Congress Energy prices were low. In fact after 2 years of the Democrats controlling congress, gas prices have doubled. GW has offer solutions and Polosi is the one stopping any drilling for Oil. Get it. - Reply to this comment
- Don''t worry folks, global warming will come to our rescue.

- Have no fear. What a bunch of BS! WE all know that pellet & corn stoves with their cheap fuel will come to our rescue, right?
Global Warming will be our Savior as our Global Warmimg Crowd expects the Planet to fry this winter her in the NE. Better start buying Air Conditioners while there on Sale at Walmarts.
If that doesn''t do it Reverend Jackson & his buddy Chavez will come to our rescue with affordable heating oil again like they did last year, right? - Reply to this comment
- My neighbors are considering a community approach to heating costs this year. Not the way working families want to live or should live in America, but to save on costs and build a greater sense of community by helping our brothers and sisters, this is what we are doing. Also, to send a message to energy companies.
Each week, one family will host others. After everyone has had dinner, the families will pack up their sleeping bags, pillows and blankets and camp out for a week, turning their heat down at their own home overnight.
In the morning, everyone gets up, the guests go home and get ready for their day, and the next evening we do it all over again. The following week, another family is host.
We figure that at any given time, only 1 out of 5 is using their heat at comfortable levels, and who knows, perhaps all the extra body heat will allow the host families to even turn down their temps too. - Reply to this comment
- And, it seems, they don''''t even have the burden of shame for what they have done.
It''''s sickening and sad.

- I live in upstate new york and I have a great pellet stove, it''s my only heating source (besides an electric backup which I don''t have to use unless I''m away for an extended period of time).
No heating oil blues for me! Woohoo! - Reply to this comment
- I remember back in the early 60s, heating oil went from 11 cents to 14 cents, then to 18 cents! Everyone was panicking. Have friends and relatives up in the northeast. This situation is horrible, considering we have conquered Iraq and have access to gazillions of barrels of oil, for free, if we want it.

- Hey marcpcbs, since when is it the schools'' job to introduce kids to morals????? It''s the frikking parents'' job to do that. The schools'' job is to educate, not instill morals. Looking at the gov., what kind of morals do you think they''d teach the kids anyways???

- This is a case of America robbing America. It''s been said that if America could financially profit from it''s own annihilation, it would blow itself up, and that%u2019s exactly what it''s doing.
Out in California the police have stopped arresting drug dealers so their making billions of dollars and the "legal" business people have tripled their prices just to keep up with the drug dealers.
This is what happens when a country has no system in the schools or the homes to introduce it''s kids to morals, ethics and principles, just gangs, violence, greed and drugs. - Reply to this comment
- Radiant or convective electric heating is inefficient, even in baseboards. One kW produces 3000 BTU, about the same as generated by the body heat of one person. I have an electric heat pump which produces twice the heat output per kW, but it is useless if the temperature drops much below 40 deg. That means it wouldn''t be much help in Maine.
Probably the only practical suggestions are more insulation, double glazing and shutting off rooms not in use. - Reply to this comment
- Dig a trench 6 ft deep in your lawn. Put a pipe in there. Circulate anti-freeze in the pipe with one end of the pipe in your house. Problem solved.

- And as we descend into this bottomless abyss created by this administration, the perps still have nothing to say. The Enron effect is on.

- One may consider replacing an old oil furnace. The new ones have heat exchangers that are twice as efficient as furnaces made fifteen years ago.
Thermo-Pride makes a good one.
Also, it makes economic sense to add more insulation to older houses now. - Reply to this comment
