Just tell social security that your kid is bi polar and they will send you a check every month. The child can be only 5 years old but they will send these people a check to help out.. Yet the people who really need the money with a real medical excuse can not get it... Whats wrong with this picture ????

I am afraid to post how doctors and others have harmed me. I am also afraid to describe everything that is happening to me because I am afraid Social Security will deny me benefits in my reconsideration phase as every past time I have reported everything that is happening to me, people I report to make things harder on me and my family cannot handle the stress my family is being put through. I am also afraid to discuss because I have reported to many people and no one will provide me with any protective services.

Please anybody out there, please reply to my post and identify that you are responding back to me by saying "YOU ARE REPLYING TO: " iluvgod7 " " and provide me with protective services or direct me to someone so I will be safe and get help with everything that is happening to me.

I also need medical care and I am suffering with life threatening conditions.

I also need help in getting my social security disablility benefits as I am disabled and cannot work and haven''t for years now and I have a wife and a young child.

Everyone, please respond to my " iluvgod7 " post and when I am made safe and protected to report things, I will inform you of everthing that is happening to me which can happen to you. If I can get more voices along with mine, maybe people will listen to and act and protect you, me, and everyone.

Please respond back to me. I want everything that is happening to me to stop and I don''t want anything that is happening to me to happen to you.

I am 45 and a disabled American who was fortunate to have been approved on my first attempt for SSDI. I have a "hidden" illness (Hidradenitis Suppurativa) and, when I started my application for benefits, I was told that I could expect to be denied on the first try. I was prepared, but was quite relieved when I didn''t have to go through the long appeals process. I know many more people who have been battling to get benefits they so desperately need - some as long as 7 years! This is ridiculous!

The SSA & DDS send people to doctors who have no knowledge of the illness for which a person is applying. Those doctors, due to their ignorance, then tell SSA & DDS that the person is capable of working. I am appalled at the thought that they think a person who has an illness that is disabling should be able to perform some type of menial work. I''ve heard of people who have severe arthritis in their hands being told that they could perform cashier duties, clerical work, or any number of positions that REQUIRE the hands to be fully functional.

Hopefully, your investigation will help to bring about some reform to the SSA and the process that it uses to approve people for benefits that we pay for out of every paycheck. I am of the opinion that if we pay for it, we should be able to get it when we need it!

Thanks for listening!

I have been disabled and waiting for over a year for disability benefits. Working as a Licensed Practical Nurse for almost 7 years, I was stricken with overwhelming pain and later was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia as well as many other physical and emotional ailments. I have been denied twice and now have hired a lawyer and am awaiting going before a judge for a decision which I have been told will take about another year. My husband and I have had to file bankruptcy. Can anyone out there help?

I heard, possibly a rumor, that there are people who marry americans in jail who are 62 or 65 and collect ss from this marriage, while living in other countries who dont have this system. Let''s suppose, I am disabled at 40, could I marry someone who is 62 or 66 and has ss, then would it extend to me as well, if they had medicare would that extend to me too. If, after working 20+ years, my ss at 62 or 66 would be higher than the new spouse, would this spouse get a share of the amount I would get in the future, or keep the current benefit. Would this benefit from the new spouse apply to my minor children as stepchildren too. Does anyone know if this drastic concept fits the ss rules.

I am very grateful to CBS news as well as to the AARP, which featured a story on the plight of SS disability applicants. As a social worker I have for many years suffered along with scores of clients being treated cruelly by a system that we all pay into that is blind to human need and desperation. I was not able to watch the news reports (still at the office working when aired here), so in case you did not address this there is one point I would ask you to cover sometime - that is, the connection between access to medical care and disability determination. Ironically many applicants are not able to access proper medical care until after they have gone through many years of waiting for a disability determination. Medicaid is usually not available to adults without children until they have been found by the SS system to be disabled, and Medicare does not kick in until two years after the disability determination. For many applicants this means that they do not even have medical records upon which to establish that they have a disabling condition. The solution here is obviously universal access to medical care. I would also like to add that sometimes disabled people are being mistreated by both the VA and SS disability claims systems at the same time - and sometimes the VA may find the person disabled years before SS does or vice versa. I would like to make a comment on joerochris. I am sure you worked hard at SSI. It''s because of lack of employees helping you. I can''t believe the employees get''s a qouta for dening a diabled person, just because your bosses tells you to do it. I would like to know how many you denied, when the person needed SSI.How would you know if the person is obviously diabled? I just hope you never get diabled with an injury to your spine, were a nerve is damage. these injuries is very painful.I think you should have strive to pay benefits under doctors order as diabled or written out documents of the injury. I think it is shameful of people who has no authority or no doctor degree making decisions on who''s diabled or not.You were only a public employee getting your qouta''s for the deniel.

Dear CBS

Just another thought could you please update with a story that tells Americans how elected offical''s and other groups? Do not have to use the same Social Security system that we do, I seen something where they have a private resource? also What do they have to go through to get benefits? How many are denied? I bet we would all be surprised.
