To pearlleticia -

CBS is talking about THIS particular dedicated physician probably because it IS much more in vogue to TENACIOUSLY relay ONLY the stories about illegal immigrant drug dealers, rapists and murderers. It already IS the nefarious immigrants who receive the majority of the public's attention.

It's about time Americans hear the other side of the story. Many of the immigrants who once hopped the border fence are now extremely valuable American citizens. Some, like Dr. Quinones, are obviously so valuable they're INDISPENSABLE to our American society. Do we condemn them all?

Dr. Quinones has NOT been illegal since PRESIDENT RONALD REAGAN'S "Immigration Reform & Control Act of 1986." Dr. "Q" EARNED his American citizenship while studying at Harvard Medical School. What more would you demand from a
once-illegal-immigrant?

I am also against illegal immigration. But isn't it to our own country's benefit to act intelligently and reasonably and separate the good from the bad? Why not deport the illegal lawbreakers and leaches while still applauding those who have become an invaluable asset to our country?

INDISCRIMINATE hate and condemnation of ALL once-illegal-immigrants is not only outrageously unreasonable, it's also moronically STUPID!

Many Americans (unless they are Native Americans)seem to have forgotten their origins---which was across a border or an ocean. Dr. Q is exceptional, but not a fairy tale story. His story of hard work, achievement, and paying back his debts is one to aspire to, not to condemn. It never ceases to amaze me that Americans can be so supportive about some things, yet so narrow-minded about others.

I think the key words here are LEARNED ENGLISH, became a CITIZEN. If each border jumper would accompl;ish those two things, it would be better for all of us. No more Head Start, etc. It still irks me when I have to "Press one for English". No Mexican national anthems,

My former husband, when six years old, was taken by his mother to a white building (# rooms) and was told that the building was school. He did not speack English, and peed his pants for the first few days because his teacher didn't speak GERMAN. Finally, some of the older children took him in hand and helped him learn. Although his family still speak their Alsatian dialect at home, he is fluent in English. And no Head Start program for him!

Is there a head start for me if I move to Mexico? Can I sing the USA national anthem? Can I get welfare or social security there? I don't think so.

BTW, I live in Texas, where there are many many illegals.

You go girl SusieP6.
Very well put. The gringo's have a saying, "Empty kettles make the loudest noises." My father's entry was similar. He too worked hard, paid his OWN way, learned the language, EARNED his citizen ship, and had to be begged to collect social security years after he qualified. His motto "We were raised to work hard, and never accept charity." He died at
90yrs of age, after working in his/our country for 75years.
If people could only accept the fact that we have good people in every race, that want to
improve their lives. Like Dr. Q, my dad, and many more. I am a proud daughter of an honorable man from Mexico.

Why is it that our country picks on the mexican border but no other nationality that comes to the usa illegally? Do we hate mexicans or latino decent. If anyone has a right to be mad it's me.

I am an american indian and did not invite all you whites of english dutch german and so on decent to my country and to take over and put us on reservations.

And may I remind you long before you came the spanish were here first. We have let you come and making a nice living and live in nice houses and drive nice cars, only to hear you moan and groan how bad it is. Bull, you made it that way for yourselves.

Your to good to get your hands dirty and take jobs like the illegals do. With every nationality there is a bad bunch in them but that doesn't make the whole race bad and that's plain stupid to even think that way whether, they are white or yellow or black.

So all you whiners get off your duffs and become more productive citizens, you'll feel better in the end.

I just noticed that this Site apparently SUBSTITUTES the letter "q" in place of a Spanish accented "n".

Try googling "Alfredo Quinones-Hinojosa." There is only one "q" in the name "Quinones."

Do you have comprehension problems, Rontimcoe?

The video clearly states Quiqones EARNED his American citizenship while attending Harvard Medical School.

Perhaps you should check out the many other Internet Sites which have in-depth information about this remarkable man. It's easy. Just google "Alfredo Quiqones-Hinojosa."

Perhaps you should also check the requirements of your own community college. Most allow entrance if the applicant can pass the appropriate academic exams. High School graduation is not required. However, Quiqones came to this country AFTER he had graduated from a Mexican college and was employed as a teacher.

He worked as a farm laborer, a tractor driver and a welder -- and worked full time while attending junior college. He went to the University of California, Berkeley on private scholarships NOT your tax dollars. He graduated with highest honors.

I'm sure Dr. Quiqones will be happy to send you a check for YOUR contribution to his education after HE pays off the many, many, tens of thousands of dollars of PERSONAL LOANS that enabled him to achieve the education that will save the lives of countless AMERICANS.

I find it interesting that those who know the LEAST are the ones who are most vocal with their condemning, vehement, unfounded bigotry.

Dr. Q is an inspiration for us all. He's not the norm of the illegals coming into this country today. I hope his success proves an inspiration for others though.

He may have come in illegally, but he took the steps necessary to become legal and he should be commended for that.

ramos937...

This Doctor is the exception to the rule. Yes, he did jump the border, but he became a citizen of the USA and he is a "PRODUCTIVE" citizen. He learned to speak English. He said he wants to give back what he can to a country that allowed him to have his dream.
The point you are missing is that with 99% of the border jumpers, this is not the case! They want a free ride and they want us to pay for it.
All we Americans want is for all Illegal Aliens to come into this country LEGALLY. Why do you suggest that they should be allowed to jump our borders which is the first crime they committ against the USA when they get here, and then move on to many other crimes after they are here? I don't want that it my country.

Oh, and something else, I never jaywalk!!!!

The energy and drive of some of these illegal immigrants is enlightening, but I have to ask why some of that enegry isn't used on the country these immigrants are leaving. Work to better the conditions in your country.

To alfinver - Folks like you will never accept the truth. Many of these "illegal immigrants" contribute to the American economy, culture and every day life of every one of us. You continuously fight this.

You never acknowledge the other positive side of the issue. I would also point out that if the application processing mess was cured, the problem would be cut by almost 80%. Many cannot wait the 5 to 7 years it takes to process an application. They want a good life for their kids and one civil law will not stop them.

BTW, from the time you (and I) get up on Monday morning to late Friday PM, you would have violated any number of civil laws. You cannot help it, they are so many of them such as jaywalking, etc.

No exceptions? Perhaps you might feel differently when this talented, hardworking neurosurgeon finds a cure for brain cancer - or successfully removes a cancerous tumor from your beloved family member's brain.

This country and the American medical profession should be extremely appreciative that Dr. Quinones-Hinojosa chose to make America his new home base for his medical genius. Watch this man! Someday he will be well known worldwide for his contribution to eliminating the pain and hideous scourge of brain cancer.
