Comments on: Who'll Bail Out Uncle Sam?
CBS' Mark Knoller On The National Debt, And Who Picks Up the Tab
- A reminder for all of you liberals and idiots who blame Bush for the budget...Congress, led by the Democrats, is who sets and passes the budget. Yes, the President submits a budget to Congress, but then it''s up to Congress to come up with and approve a final version. If the President signs off on it, it becomes law. If he doesn''t, it goes back to Congress to for Congress to over-ride the President''s veto with their own vote or to re-work the budget to something he''d sign off on. So either the Democrats are lying and trying to shift the budget blame (and a bunch of ignorant, lazy people who haven''t studied how the government really works are falling for their political BS hook, line, and sinker) or the Democrats are lying and a bunch of pandering politicians who are doing whatever the President wants them to do...even though they have the power to over-ride his veto. Either way, the blame rests squarely on the Democrat-controlled, 20% or less approval rating Congress.
Where else in modern society - other than Congress - can you spend other people''s money and spend more than you have on things you don''t need and not only not get fired, but get re-hired...and, oh yeah, vote to give yourself a pay raise for doing such an incredible job? - Reply to this comment

- China won''t bail out the U.S., China will buy the U.S. Get ready to work for your Chinese slave masters at Walmart.
China is the main buyer of U.S. Treasury Bonds, China funds our debt so we can buy more from them.
If Chna suddenly didn''t want U.S. dollars and sold all it''s Treasury Bonds, the U.S. would collapse. - Reply to this comment

- Has anyone else noticed that McCain/Palin are trying to appear to be Democrats?
They rant against "corruption" and the "failures" of REPUBLICAN leadership and I couldn''t believe an earlier speech where McCain actually mentioned Republicans as a cause of the problems we''re now facing.
They DON''T put their party on their signs and use "Democrat Blue" for their background on their signs.
I started to NOTICE this LACK of IDENTITY in a LOT of the Republicans running for office.
Sheesh you''d think they''''re EMBARRASSED by THEIR OWN PARTY.
But the candidates for the HIGHEST OFFICE refusing to acknowledge on their signs they are REPUBLICANS and trying to HIDE that fact TOO???
Where are the BRIGHT RED backgrounds I USED TO SEE on their signs and the word REPUBLICAN PROUDLY DISPLAYED on those signs?
Where is the TRUTH as to WHAT PARTY they belong to?
I see a LOT of Democratic SIGNS PROUDLY DISPLAYING their PARTY affiliation.
GOP - the "STEALTH PARTY" HIDING their IDENTITY and acting like IDENTITY THIEVES stealing the OTHER Candidate''s PLATFORM, signs, ideas, etc in hope of MISLEADING voters??
How PATHETIC can Republicans get by trying to be Democrats? OWN UP and CHANGE PARTIES if you''re going to use the SAME platform and talking points!
That way maybe the Constitution Party or Libertarian Party might have a chance. - Reply to this comment

- From Bill Moyer%u2019s Journal Sept 12 2008:
Both Barack Obama and John McCain say the Fannie and Freddie mess is the result of the cozy ties between lobbyists and politicians, the very thing they will "change" if elected. But guess what? Neither one of them has ever had, quote, "A record of directly challenging the companies." To the contrary, Obama is second among members of Congress in donations from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac''s employees and political action committees, even though he''s only been in the Senate since 2005. The former chairman of Fannie Mae originally led Obama''s vice presidential search committee but had to step down in a controversy over favorable loans he received, while at Fannie, from a company doing business with Fannie. Among Obama''s contributors are three directors and one senior vice president of the two companies. Furthermore, Obama''s fellow Democrats in Congress have long been enablers of both corporations. And what about John McCain? His entire campaign team stepped right out of a predator''s ball. His confidante and top adviser lobbied several years for Freddie Mac. His deputy fundraiser lobbied Fannie Mae, and his campaign manager lobbied for both of them, leading a coalition of beltway insiders whose goal was to "stave off regulations" that might have short circuited this nightmare. One wealthy member of Freddie Mac''s board has contributed more than $70,000 to McCain and Republican Party members working for McCain''s election. - Reply to this comment
- For "tuckerndfw". Get it right please! The Dems control congress, worse luck, since 2006. And they hve completely failed in their financial system oversight role! They have responsibility for ensuring the integrity of the system and they have not lifted a finger to exercise that responsibility. Nor did they say a word about subprime until the crisis struck! They are sleeping on the job. No surprise there. And no, you cant blame Lieberman! He only votes against the Dems on the war and national security issues. On all other issues he votes Dem. Its time sombody took greenhorn B Hussein Obama to task on this issue. What he really knows of economics wouldn''t fill a postage stamp.

The INCREASE in incomes of the TOP 1 percent of Americans from 2003 to 2005 EXCEEDED THE TOTAL income of the poorest 20 percent of Americans, data in a new report by the Congressional Budget Office shows.
The poorest fifth of households had total income of $383.4 billion in 2005, while JUST THE INCREASE in income for the top 1 percent came to $524.8 billion, a figure 37 percent higher.
The total income of the top 1.1 million households was $1.8 trillion, or 18.1 percent of the total income of all Americans, up from 14.3 percent of all income in 2003. The total 2005 income of the three million individual Americans at the TOP was roughly EQUAL to that of the BOTTOM 166 million Americans, analysis of the report showed.
Earlier reports, based on tax returns, showed that in 2005 the top 10 percent, top 1 percent and fractions of the top 1 percent enjoyed their GREATEST SHARE of income since 1928 and 1929." - Reply to this comment

- Listen IRAQ is a sore spot. From what I understand ( maybe BS) our CIA started putting Saddam in play in the late 50''s early 60''s. Don''t really know for sure. But sometimes cleaning up your own mess costs. Try using idle threats aka UN and see how far you get. My heart goes out to all who have has lost someone in Iraq (both American soldier or Iraqi civillian). I salute those serving our country.
