Bob Simon's April 22nd segment "Christians of the Holy Land" is so far afield of reality that it requires a retraction.

Shame on you.

I watched the Bob Simon episode of "60 Minutes" called "Christians of the Holy Land" and was astounded by this piece of biased, inaccurate reporting.

The segment ignored the Christian exodus from Muslim countries around the world, the targeted destruction of churches by organized Islam and the absence of freedom of religion for Christians in many Muslim nations.

Mr. Simon falsely stated that the security barrier encircles Bethlehem and failed to note that that Christians in Bethlehem fear for their lives at the hands of the Muslims. Furthermore, the Kairos document is known to be anti-Semitic and characterizes Palestinian acts of terror as legal resistance.

Any reduction in numbers or percentage of Christians in the Holy Land is due to overpopulation by Muslims and exodus by Christians who fear for their lives and the lives of their children. Christian Arabs in Israel have freedom in all respects and would never want to live in a Muslim country.

CBS should be ashamed of itself. I will never turn on "60 Minutes" again.

The recent 60 Minutes segment on "Christians of the Holy Land" was one of the most biased and untrue TV "documentary" programs I have seen in many years. I urge CBS to correct its many factual errors with a follow-up of what is actually happening to Christians in Israel and the entire Middle East.

Your coverage of Christians in the Holyland on Sunday night was shameful.

Here are the facts:

There are more credible explanations for the Christians leaving the Middle-East than was shown this past Sunday, April 22nd, 2012 on 60 Minutes. The savage killing of Christians in countries such as Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, Egypt and Gaza and the destruction of many Christian sacred churches come to mind. These would be a much more logical explanation for the dramatic decrease of the Christian population in the Middle East.
Muslims have always treated Christians as infidels, with the accompanying humiliations extended to minorities in Arab lands. Just as one example, on a flippant excuse of some dangerous virus among animals, a few years ago President Mubarak ordered the killing of all pigs in Egypt-400,000 pigs were slaughtered. This wiped out the major livelihood of the Coptic Christian community in Egypt.
Mr. Simon's interview was superficial and his choice of priests was biased. As anyone who has even a superficial knowledge on this issue knows, Israeli has always respected Christian places of worship better than any Arab entity. Mr. Simon's interview of Israel's ambassador to Washington was condescending, with a "gotcha!" attitude regarding Dr. Michael Oren's call to the president of CBS expressing concern over the program. I doubt that Mr. Simon would have taken such a cavalier attitude towards, let's say, Iran's ambassador to Washington.
CBS should plan on showing us the real plight of Christians in Muslim countries in the Middle East.
Having grown up in Egypt, and having lived in Israel for three years, I know firsthand that Christians are treated much worse in Muslims countries of the Middle East than in the Jewish State.

Sorry to hear of Andy Rooney's passing. You really need a stress reliever at the end of your broadcast. I would highly suggest Dave Ross. His commentaries are very entertaining and he already works for CBS. What could be more obvious?
