- CBS White House correspondent John Roberts really didn\'t have to apologize for George W. Bush\'s ineptness. Do correspondents have to sugarcoat every inquiry? If the current administration can\'t tolerate questions & take a little \"heat\", well it\'s highly understandable that they get out of the \"kitchen\". Somebody buy this clique a couple pounds of emotional toughness.

- I do appreciate reporters who question the information provided by our leaders and their representatives, rather than taking things at face value. Frankly, I don\'t trust the leaders on either side of the aisle. In this case, however, John Roberts\' question was both vulger and partisan. Mr. Roberts, you embarrassed yourself and a formerly great news organization.

- John Roberts\' selection of words regarding the Alito nomination is indicative not only of his political bias, but also his disregard for all things sacred. He is just one more example that the mainstream media is populated largely by left leaning elitists who are out of touch with the rest of us.

- Sloppy seconds. What else would you call it? Oops we made a mistake? Here is the real nominee? If at first you don\'t succeed, try try again. The second bit of the apple. Whatever, and the question, was it ever answered?

- Re: John Roberts/Alito Nomination Hey John, \"sloppy seconds\", is that right? Spoken in the grand tradition of CBS News, in it\'s undaunted search for the truth and factual content. You\'re a disgrace, with your blatant bias and dislike for President Bush. Which makes you like nearly everybody else working in the MSM these days. Like other comments, I haven\'t watched your news programming for years. Small wonder. Steve Oien

- A reporter for CBS said such a heinous thing that neither Bush nor Cheney has anything to offer about a traitorous leak but praise for the resigned liar. Perhaps the focus should be on this adminstration\'s paranoia. We need no more examples of Bush\' lies---it is\"mission accomplished.\"

- There\'s an enormous difference between something that is offensive and something that may be bothersome. War, killing, intolerance -- these are offensive. But how a reporter phrases a question to a press secretary during a private session doesn\'t even come close. CBS newsman Roberts may feel that he owes an apology to Mr. McClennan. I don\'t see any grounds for it to extend to viewers.

- Again everyone, please see John Roberts\' reaction to your comments http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2005/10/31/publiceye/entry998850.shtml

- Totally unacceptable. Apparently CBS no longer knows the difference between professional journalism and disrespectful adolescents making snotty comments. The supposed apology amounts to nothing.

- The term \"sloppy seconds\" is repugnant regardless of the circumstances. This incident is particularly mind boggling in that it occurred in a professional setting in public, in our White House. If the President or a CEO used such a phrase to describe a job candidate they would be crucified by the media. I cannot even fathom the frenzy and the front page coverage it would receive (remember the \"major league\" coverage). The apology fails to even mention the target of the slur, Judge Alito. As for Mr. Robert\'s attempted assurance that there was \"no perjorative (sic) intent to my question\" he must believe us all to be illiterate. On what planet is the phrase \"sloppy seconds\" not pejorative? Does Mr. Roberts fail to comprehend what the work pejorative means (perhaps so since he cannot spell it correctly)? Or does he not understand the clear meaning of the phrase \"sloppy seconds\"? It\'s one or the other - because his failure, after ample time, to accurately reflect on his inane remark shows that he still fails to recognize that his question was not only offensive but truly biased and partisan. Mr. Roberts should be demoted. Or fired.
