- Thanks CBS for showing the Jeremy Perkins story. Now, it is not surprising that scientologists out there will question the way the story was covered. But they had a chance to explain their side of the story.
Whether CBS is biased or not is not what I want to hear at this point. Regardless, *valid questions* were raised in 48 Hours: What I want to hear from the scientologists is answers to these questions:
- Do you agree that there is such a thing as "mental illness"?
- If yes, what exactly is your treatment for various mental illnesses? Please, provide all the details, success rate, side effects, etc. Note that current treatments by psychiatry are *thoroughly* documented and information can easily be found on the internet.
- If not, how do you explain what happened to Jeremy Perkins? And please, refrain from relying on your founder's policy of "assigning any upset in Scientology to past damage by psychiatry." (HCOPL of 29 June 1971)
- Why the attempted cover-up of the Perkins tragedy? (Well-documented, see www.perkinstragedy.org/CoverUp)
Attempt to diverting the attention of people to other "issues" of supposed bias doesn't work for me. Questions are left unanswered.
I want details from Scientology of their own treatment for mental illnesses. Stop blaming psychiatry. Stop accusing anyone questioning your views of "religious bigot." Start providing detailed solutions that offer as good success rate in treating mental illnesses as psychiatry currently does.

- CBS in my opinion has done some of the best longrange Scientology coverage bar none. Thankyou. I was a Scientology staffer for 27 years (1975-2003), and the part of the church I worked in, we didn't watch TV. So when I finally quit I was like Rip Van Winkle, in 2003, when I finally got out, after 27 years inside. Xenutv.com has loads of the old CBS and other TV shows on Scientology. CBS you guys do excellent work! Thankyou. Your last couple decades of problems on Scientology I highly recommend for other ex members to view, as part of healing from the downsides of Scientology. Good TV reporting really helps. It is entirely valid to show the downsides to Scientology. I believe that from being on the inside of the movement, in the cacoon world that the upper ranks staff are in, that is is ONLY good media that pierces the shell of the Scientology movement. Thankyou CBS.

- It is no surprise to me that the Church of Scientology did not send a representative to CBS for the 48 Hours expose to defend the Church's position. The "official" story told to current church members is that Elli's death was caused by Jeremy's illtreatment by Psychiatry.
They would have had to sing a different tune and that would have exposed their lie. Scientology cares dearly about their image not their members.$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ The "$" represents each wound inflicted upon the innocent Elli by her beloved son Jeremy. What an image-indelibly imprinted upon the minds of those who witnessed the results of such a brutal murder. Count them JLightfield! CBS is too savy to risk an untruth. Have you no shame? - Reply to this comment
- For more information about the Elli Perkins case, read the excellent web page by Prof. David Touretzky. It is available at:

It is high time we get the religious tax exemption of Scientology removed. These folks call Dianetics auditing a "Modern Science of Mental Health", but instead of paying taxes on the business of selling mental health products, they decided to call the whole business a religion.

- This story is truly riveting and I would encourage a CBS Encore Presentation!
While I was involved in the Church of Scientology
I was not informed about the Perkins incident; in fact it was kept secret-a classic cover up. It was only when I read about it on the internet that I found out the truth about Elli's murder. I was shocked - horrified in fact- because I knew that I could easily have encountered the same fate as Elli because I have a daughter with a similar illness.
After a thorough investigation of the background of Scientology and Dianetics (made possible by the Internet) I realized that I had been betrayed by this organization during the 15+ years of dedicated service and high level of achievement.
I consider that CBS 48 Hours has done an excellent job with this report and people should be warned of Scientology's dangerous policy of not allowing their members to get the appropriate psychiatric help when needed.
Now that my daughter has undergone Psychiatric treatment, she has taken her medication daily and she feels normal for the first time in her life! When she told me this, I cried for hours and begged her forgiveness. I was once an arrogant Scientologist but now I am truly humble and simply looking for true enlightenment as I once sought before joining this group which I know from experience is indeed a cult. Scientology nearly ruined my family but I had the wisdom to seek the Truth and the Truth has set us Free! Bravo CBS! This program is destined to save lives! - Reply to this comment
- CCHR is just a Scientology front group. They have at least 3 dozen probably more. Scientology has never done one charitable act since it was founded. There is always a ulterior motive involved which "Get them in and on the bridge" Doesn't matter how they get you in. WISE, Sterling management Narconon, Criminon all are groups whose sole purpose is to lure the unsuspectig into the Cult (church) and then take them for as much money as they can before the poor suckers finally wake up. Check out www.xenu.net and find out the truth for yourself.

- I would like to see a reporter investigate if CBS is actually an anti-religeous cult...

- I agree JLightfield, I think they should do a story on the VolunteerMinisters. Like the fact that after 9/11 they were told to leave the area and snuck back in. That they tried to divert trama victims from the people trained to help them.
As for you 800 plus numbers you qoute. Can you tell us the time frame of all this? I would love to know.
But my main question to all the members os that you say the story is slanted but you don't question the facts of the story.
What did you think CBS told that wasn't true? - Reply to this comment
- Thank goodness for the internet so the general public is not longer dependent upon the "news" to get their information. Slanted and now backtracking, CBS has succumbed and now news is "entertainment" no matter if it is true or not.
