They should not have filed the story until visual confirmation of the miners was made. It was a great story; it was a tv movie of the week worthy story, and that's why it was rushed.

The French Sociologist Durkheim noted years ago the chaos that decends upon a society with the erosion of its standards and values, which he termed anomie. The Katrina debacle was compounded by he press telling lurid tales of mayhem that turned out to be nothing but rumors. Bianco responded by threatening the survivors with extermination by crazed, bloodthirsty returning Iraq war veterans. As an Aerican in London, I as humiliated. Europeans were aghast at police officers pointing shotguns at hysterical black women. Neither the press not Bianco were held accountable for propagating baseless rumors. And these folks today will not be held accountable. There was a time when heads would roll, but now you can be the US President, take money from good old crooked Abe, donate it to a charity, and all is forgiven.
