So does this mean I'm guilty of the same greed for wanting my 401K to make money, and for wanting my retirement in funds that will yield good returns? Wow, and I thought I just wanted to ensure I'd be able to afford to take care of myself and my family once I retire. Little did I know that this was corrupt and greedy thinking on my part. Give me a break. This guy, and the crooks at the top of the food chain, knew exactly what they were doing and how many people's lives and livelihoods would be destroyed. We're talking largely about people beyond retirement who don't have the option to work longer, who worked their entire lives to save money for their elder years, and who didn't deserve this. Did Elie Wiesel deserve this because his charity was greedy? Maybe you should think this stuff through more before you make yourself look petty and uninformed in these posts. Shame on you.

You have to expect that from his Lawyer. Would you want a Lawyer that come out & say "Yeah, he's scum. Put him away for life". You don't get many references operating like that. OJ would be behind bars for murder had he had an honest Lawyer. (An honest Lawyer is about as rare as an 18 year old virgin!)

LOL. 18 year old virgins are not at all rare. I and my 2 sisters were 18 year old virgins. My cousins were 18 year old virgins, even 2 of my sons were and my two daughters were. In each case it was a choice and a tradition which each family member wanted to live up to. When each of us made the choice to finally have sex, it was a big occasion with the family in full support of the mature decision. Whether kids remain virgins until they are at least 18 or not, like whether kids do drugs or end up in jail or not--has to do with the raising, which does not stop with great grades in school or good manners, it also has to do with who you let your kids hang around with, where they go, and how much influence you begin and MAINTAIN throughout all the years you have children. Some in my family were also 19 year old and 21 year old virgins before they took the plunge.

Each voluntarily committed to the ideas of self respect and self discipline--this ensured that neither friends or the capricious nature of teen libido superceded their self respect and common sense. It is not uncommon to come across 18 year old virgins--it IS uncommon in America to come across parents who actually know and practice good parental skills. Nix those sleepovers....

OK, but 12 years isn't even funny and would likely create a response you don't want to see - witness the comments here.

In other words, a nice slap on the wrist. They said, "Disproportionately to other white collar criminals". Thats just it. They all should stew in their own juices in real prison rather than a few years in a "country club" prison.

[The vast majority of the people and organizations that Madoff duped were blinded by their own greed and expectations of an unsustainable return. ]

support this statement with verification ... or admit you don't have a clue what you're talking about.

if donte got 30 days, and some other guy got 1 year then those travesties of justice should be dealt with seperately. why do they in any way have any bearing on this case?

being wealthy and wanting a return on your investment is not greed. many of those that lost money left the management of the investment to others ... and these 'others' are expected to represent your interests.

it's easy to discount all who got scammed as greedy ... and they somehow deserved it ... until of course it's you ... or your mother ... or your grandparents who he wiped out.

he should be put in a cell and not let out until he pays everyone back ... and since he can't do this ... then off he goes ... never to be seen again.

that would be fair to all those he scammed.

Only 12 years for what this guy did? Who cares about his age. He knows right from wrong and he has to face the consequences. It's don't do the crime if you can't do the time. If it were an "average american", they'd be slapped in jail faster than their head could spin.

What should happen, in addition to the max sentence, is to rob him of all the money he stole, then triple or quadrouple it.

What has the justice department come to be now? An average citizen would be facing life in prison. I thought that justice was supposed to be equal for ALL citizens......American citizens should be equal,,,,but for some reason the government has a different set of rules for the rich and greedy...could that be because our government represents those with big money and does not care about the average citizen?,,,,,,,,,,When will Americans wake up and see the truth,,,,our government has declared war on the middle class of America,,,,,,yes Obama we want change....but NOT the change you envision of only having TWO classes,,,those who have and those who don't.........Americans of the middle class ....we must stand together and stop these white collar suit and tie terrorists in Washington who are trying to eliminate us.

I say put him on an island that is in extreme poverty and make him live out his days there. He has impoverished so many people, he should live in abject poverty and not be coddled in an institution.
