Execs Tell Congress They Have No Alternative As They Fight To Overcome Bankruptcy
- CAN ANYONE EXPLAIN TO ME HOW CLOSING DEALERSHIPS THAT SELL THERE PRODUCTS AND COST THEM (THE CORPORATIONS) NOTHING TO HAVE THEM STAY OPEN, IS GOING TO MAKE THE COMPANIES .... BETTER? ISN'T THAT LIKE SAYING WAL-MART WILL MAKE MORE MONEY IF THEY CUT BACK TO ONE STORE? AND I THOUGHT ALL THIS BAILOUT CRAP WAS BEING DONE TO SAVE EVERYONES JOBS? DON'T SEE THAT HAPPENING EITHER. i'M STARTING TO THINK LIKE A MUSLIM !

- Many of these dealerships have been losing money for years. The only one that closed in my area of the state (the closures here were minimal) has been struggling and losing money for quite awhile. The nearest dealership offered to buy them out several times over the past year or more and they refused unless the whole building went with it. They were stubborn and thought they had the upper hand. Now the other dealership (a 5-star and making lots of money) will end up buying them out anyway, after they have been refusing for a year and losing money while doing it.
So whose fault is that? - Reply to this comment

Here is your answer Dumacrat...
WASHINGTON ? Jobless rates rose in all the largest U.S. metropolitan areas for the fourth straight month in April, according to government data released Wednesday.
The Labor Department reported all 372 metropolitan areas tracked saw their jobless rates increase in April from a year earlier. Indiana's Elkhart-Goshen's rate jumped to 17.8 percent, up 12.7 percentage points from a year ago. - Reply to this comment
- make poor financial decisions just like the folks on Wall Street.

- In my humble opinion, this is yet another "OBUMBLES initiated fiasco. The small town car dealers have been, in most all cases, pillars of the community and traditionally very strong supporters of the way many, many of us were raised to belive life should be. My conclusion is that they contribute significantly to the local and National economy and don't truthfully deplete the "bottom line" of the mega (today, disturbingly DYING or Government owned = a.k.a) corporations ! Guess today's society, and our current administration, has concluded that is NOT an O.K. way of life and needs to be eliminated. I am SO SAD and, increasingly, feeling I don't even want to live here, in what I, for a multitude of years, believed was the "Good Old U.S. of A." Sure wish I was young enough to relocate, but guess I am STUCK here and need to weather the, what I am convinced will be, a non-stop storm!

- Granted car dealers are thought of as a bunch of crooks, but they are a necessary part of the economic structure. Granted they have to make money. So does every other business. No one goes into business to lose money.

I'd rather have a root canal than walk into a dealership and play their stupid little games. It's an insult to any rational person's intelligence. - Reply to this comment
- Obama is closing all the republican dealerships so that only the democrats will have the tools to force the rest of the country to buy their cars. That way he can get his grand plan in place.
Wait till interest rates go to 20% and inflation is at 15% or more.

Yeah, and they've been protected by their republican congresspeople for years...being allowed to make poor financial decisions just like the folks on Wall Street. But if you're paying off your congresspeople, shouldn't you be allowed to run a business that loses money? - Reply to this comment

Yeah...what realistic human would expect that just because you worked for a company for several years that it's their job to provide you and your family with income and health benefits for the rest of your life?
What idiot did the math on that one? - Reply to this comment
- This is what happens when you allow a junior senator with 143 days as a senator to run our country. Hold on, this is just the beginning!

Oh yeah, but these guys running these car companies have been around for years and still can't manage to make a quality car with decent mileage that Americans want to buy.
It sounds harsh, but other companies who lose money are forced to close their doors. What makes the car companies so different?
It's because they're tied in with the UAW...which is criminal in itself.
I will NEVER buy an American-made car. I laugh at all these people jumping at the opportunity to buy Tahoes and Suburbans and big trucks right now...gas is going to skyrocket, and yet again, Americans and their foolish need to drive gigantic cars will cause destruction of our way of life. - Reply to this comment
