If these dealers can pick-up Toyota and Honda franchises, they may stand to make more money. That way, they will be offereing cars that people want. They would keep their employees and continue paying taxes. Many people, including automobile dealers, are discovering that loyalty is only skin deep.

"GM is planning to import something like 17,000 autos from china next year on top of all of their other anti-american agenda."
..........................

The unions have never cared. They ran the electronics, paper, steel, textile, furniture and now automotive industries out of this country. They have never cared if our manufacturing was competitive. They only wanted to maintain the power in their leaders and collect union dues. That is why they are supporting amnesty for illegals. They know they will lose significant support from their current membership so they want all illegal immigrants on their side they can get. Our industry will rapidly hire illegals for $10 a hour to replace the union workers that have lost their jobs.

I'm hoping for an article that explains what's going on (a real article, not a conspiracy theory).

If you're looking for quality journalism you're obviously at the wrong website. This place is a notch above the now defunct Weekly World News.

Grow a brain. Honda and Toyota employ 10,000s in American plants.

"Chrysler said in its filing that dealers are not competitive enough with foreign brands. Chrysler sold an average of 303 vehicles per dealer in 2008, according to its filing. By contrast, Honda Motor Co. sold about 1,200 vehicles per dealer, while Toyota Motor Corp. sold nearly 1,300 per dealer."

And herein is the problem!!! Our government has allowed foriegn import companies to take control of our industries. I remember when BMW and Mercedes were the only real foriegn autos imported. And the cost of importing those forbid importing except for upper middle income and higher.

If we wnt to improve our economy, we must produce our own products and quit importing!!!

Closing Chrysler dealerships will only funnel more people to Toyota, Nissan, Honda and even FORD.

BAD IDEA!!!!

But then a Chrysler is a "do not buy product" in my mind anyway. In my opinion, they have HORRIBLE quality and reliability - just like in 1977 (in my opinion) before Lee Iaccoca took over and fixed the mess....

The only specific reason I've read that Chrysler gives is to decrease competition! Just how is closing dealerships going to save them money? As far as I've read, they don't own the dealerships. What they're doing is withdrawing the franchises. I'm hoping for an article that explains what's going on (a real article, not a conspiracy theory).

To the people in the dealerships who can't believe this is happening in America...yo, it happens every day: some business goes belly up because they are not profitable enough to remain open. It's called capitalism and the free enterprise system.

Except if you are a large corporation and major political PAC contributor, they get "bailouts", a euphemism for corporate socialism.

If Chrysler thought there sales were bad now, wait until they shut down a third of their stores. Suicide.

As far as I am concerned, I would not lose a second of sleep if Chrysler shuttered EVERY dealership.

The message is loud and clear to the unions,,,I cant believe the unions,
made up of intelligent employable Americans will continue business
as usual.,,,I have faith they'll change,,,,,,if not and,,,

,,, IF the union members dont storm the union gates they'll get what they
deserve,,,no jobs

Their choice is loyality to their "The Union" or being out of work.

I say union members WILL "help" direct union officials to reasonability.

Without unions the pendulum will return all the way back to where unions,
"sensible" unions, were a necessity to stop the reverse of employees
gouging employers.,,,,,,,"All thing in moderation".

All you UAW workers that have voted Dem over the past few elections, all you union workers that have allowed the Dems to ruin the state of Michigan.

I'm sorry. I really am. I think you were lied to by your unions. They sold you a bill of goods and their intent the entire time was take your union dues and live large.

This is a sad day and it is only going to get worse. All of the Chrysler dealers will soon be gone. Most of the GM dealers will soon be gone. If Ford does not get out of Michigan and dump the union they are next. It is going to get MUCH worse.

Votes matter folks. The Dems and unions said they would protect you. They have now put you out of work.
