Jail is too good for this guy. Hanging in the public square would be good! Somebody in government was getting kickbacks from this guy, thats why nothing was done.

Very, VERY interesting.

Even more interesting is that the media
sees NO story in the list.

As this story is breaking down, it seems that a number of people knew for years that Madoff was running a Ponzi scheme, but nobody did anything.

Could it be possible that people knew it was a con and got in to be in on the theft and then got out before it collapsed? Is it possible that these thieves getting out was what caused it to finally collapse?

Maybe I am taking it one step too far, but when I see the smirk on Madoff%u2019s face that everyone is talking about comes from the fact that he knows that there are so many people who profited from what they knew was a scam that they will never let the whole story come out and never want it known where the money went.

The Feds may be trying to get hold of his family jewels, but Madoff might be holding a lot of prominent people by their family jewels. He might get to keep hold of his, by keeping hold of theirs.

I guess the judge is a friend of Bernie. Anyone one eles who defy a court order goes to jail but not Bernie. It just goes to show that the law is not equally applied, if you have money and fame you don''t go to jail.

I believe I would stand a better chance in Las Vegas than with Wall Street. Thank goodness I can still rely on my Social Security for some return on my money.

Markopolos first alerted officials nearly 10 years ago about what he saw as Madoff''s scam. Then 2005 he sent this 19-page report to the SEC titled "the World''s Largest Hedge Fund is a Fraud"

Somebody quickly bury that report, says the SEC leadership.

"Inspector General H. David Kotz said he is so concerned about the SEC''s failure to uncover Madoff''s alleged pyramid scheme that the IG is expanding the inquiry called for last month by SEC Chairman Christopher Cox. Cox had pushed the blame squarely onto the SEC''s career staff for the failure to detect what Madoff was doing."

Maybe the SEC will look into the credit default swap(CDS) market too. See how much of a pyramid scheme that is. Upwards to $50 Trillion.

Some of the people on this list are contesting being included. Are they ashamed?

At the risk of stating the obvious, it would seem to me that our government should stop doing what people are complaining about, eh?

We know they won''t, eh? Gov''t won''t stop. It''s up to we the people. What do we do? What does one small, teeny, grunt-worker American do to get these idiots to quit?

Folks, what can we do to stop all this ripping off? Lots of complaining out there and deservedly so. But what do we do about it? Anyone? Got ideas?

"[SEC Chairman Christopher] Cox had pushed the blame squarely onto the SEC''s career staff for the failure to detect what Madoff was doing."

Now that is funny. You run an office promoting laissez-faire economics and favor looking the other way in the name of "the free flow of commerce", and you blame it on the people who work for you?

Yup - definitely a Replican, that Cox.

I''m not in the league of the wealthy Madoff investors, I''m not a professional investor, but I understand the need for diversification and responsible conservative investing.

There is no way I''d ever put all my eggs in one basket and in one unregulated nontransparent firm that has no credible independent auditing, nor independent custody of securities and independent statements.

If these well off idiots lost it all to greed then they must accept the consequences. Don''t expect taxpayers to bail them out. Go after their advisers and others in the mix. I''m not even convinced SIPC should stand behind Madoff''s unregulated unregistered hedge fund. These people fought regulation and disclosure.

Frankly I''m even concerned about the big well known brokerage and mutual fund firms that have in house custodial relationships.

This man should be jailed and every assett impounded so there is at least something left to be distributed amongst his victims, including family heirlooms and every dime he has.
