Board Of Directors Feels Chapter 11 Would Not Address Fundamental Issues Facing Automaker, Says Spokesman
- Why all this now?.

In case you didn''t know - the federal government has ALREADY allocated a $25 billion loan to the car makers, but it''s dependent on whether they meet the C.A.F.E. efficiency standards.
Now they just HAPPEN to need $25 billion - THE EXACT SAME AMOUNT - unconditional on any standards, or else THEY''LL PUT MILLIONS OF WORKERS OUT OF THEIR JOBS.
They''re trying to get a free pass on C.A.F.E. and they''re using extortion to get it.
Sweet, huh.
That''s "why." - Reply to this comment
- Yawn. Tell it to Ted Stevens.

Yah, that''s the problem with Democrats. They NEVER TAKE THE BLAME for ANYTHING.
When have you EVER blamed ANY Democrat for ANYTHING, even ONCE???
Democrats - NEVER take responsibility. - Reply to this comment
- The GM antilock brake system, for example, is legendary for INCREASING the rate of fatal accidents, especially accidents involving pedestrians.
The problem is, the primitive GM antilock brake system works by FORCING the wheels on both sides to turn at the same speed. The theory is, of a wheel on one side starts skidding, probably the wheel on the other side isn''t skidding, so they make the slower wheel turn at the same speed as the faster wheel.
That''s great if you''re trying to stop on a straight road. Problem is - if you''re going around a curve, it throws the vehicle off the road by forcing it to go straight regardless of steering input.
And if you''re swerving to avoid a pedestrian while braking, if the car skids the antilock brake system forces the car to keep going straight - straight INTO THE PEDESTRIAN.
I had the experience of going around a corner at about 15 mph while braking LIGHTLY on a wet road - suddenly I lost steering control and almost went into the ditch when the antilock brake system overrode my steering control. As soon as I took my foot off the brake, I could steer again. - Reply to this comment
- I just want to know, where were all these automakers during the last 8 years, when their buddies in congress and the White House had total control of all branches of government and were siphoning massive taxpayer dollars. Why all this now?. What happened to the trickle down theory?? Supply and Demand??? Free markets???. WHO ARE YOU TRYING TO KID???. Shame on you.

- Oh that''''s right, you''''re a RINOpublican, you guys lie a lot.
Posted by FloydZeppd at 09:51 AM : Nov 23, 2008
Yes, that''s the difference between them and Democrats.
They lie "a lot." Democrats make A SPORT of lying, and they lie "INCESSANTLY, RELENTLESSLY, SHAMELESSLY, and even PROUDLY!!!"
Republicans limit themselves to lying only "a lot." - Reply to this comment
- Bankruptcy not an option?
Neither, apparently, was building quality vehicles that DIDN''T KILL THEIR DRIVERS and passengers from "known problems" that they refused to fix under the warrantee because "it would just keep malfunctioning anyway even if we replaced it - it''s a KNOWN PROBLEM!"
And now they want us to bail them out, with their paid shills on these boards promising a 100mpg car if we keep them in business for "just a few more years."
Promises, promises. The 100 mpg car is in the mail...LOL! - Reply to this comment

Good Riddance.

- To the Auto makers, where are your plans? Where are your solutions? Money alone will not solve your problems. Maybe if you can show the way out of this, the nation will respond. Gentlemen, start your EXCEL.

- There is no significant liberal media unless you are thinking of WBAI and The Nation. The rest are right wing. The idea of a large liberal media just another line of BS pushed by the right wing propaganda machine.
That rediculous claim is, of course, given wide publicity by the media - which kinda shows just how BS a claim it is.
US media has been right wing since at least 1900.

- If bankruptcy is not a viable option, I guess the only option is for them to go out of business. At least that way, we wont have to hear about the poor auto makers anymore.

- Why should we reward these executives for a series of very poor business decisions? Based on their lack of insight, GM is a sinking ship.

- It''''s a shame to see so many Americans played for fools by the Republican propaganda machine.
But it is understandable.
It''''s hard to get straight info when the media is uncritically pushing the Republican talking points that their advertisers and owners support and advance.
Heck, if media people don''''t stick to the Republican line they get criticized for being "Godless Commies." They may not get promoted or may even loose their job.
(Actually "Godless Capitalists" are much more common in America.)
So watch out for "amazing facts."
They may just be complete BS.

Isn''t that just a bit backward? You are talking about our liberal media here...Nothing good about conservative views, and all cake and ice cream about liberal agendas. Give me a break. - Reply to this comment

- UAW workers are way over paid. Their salaries plus benefits come in at nearly 100k per year. They have a retirement plan that pays over half of their working salary plus benefits. Now they want other blue collar workers to pay for UAW retirees, their high salaries, CEO''s who are too arrogant to fly first class and cars that fall apart in five years? What a joke! Just like the wall street bailout....the "Hads" want to return to being the "Haves" at the expense of the have nots. What a joke.

- Auto workers make $29.78 per hour. With all benefits added their cost to the auto industry may be as high as $41.00 per hour.
But the auto industry committed to payments to alot of people in the fat times of the past and among those people were workers. Money has been put aside for that.
But if they enter bankruptcy they may be able to default on those promises and sieze that money.
The Republicans want to see bankruptcy so that the benefit accounts set up for past and present workers can be looted.
Republicans also seek to see US worker wages driven down to the level paid to illegal immigrants.
One thing about Republicans they are always looking to sieze the money from worker accounts - like social security for example - and waging warfare against worker salaries - like in the auto industry.
Too bad. - Reply to this comment
- I''''m retiring early, must be one those rich NO GOOD UAW MEN. The ones that put the Automakers down at the bottom. Thanks. I had, HAD, onw on those junk cars the UAW makes. At one time. I took it to the JUNK yare, only had 42,000 miles and would not RUN. So much for a U.S.A. car.

- What a business plan. Run around in Gulfstream Private jets, pay yourself tens of millions and included a golden parachute. I wonder if they really care about the future of their companies; I believe all they are interested in is getting all they can for themselves.

- I''m retiring early. Why should I continue to work and have my income taken away to give to all these rich, fat old men?
