Yeah, right? I''ve gotta say, though...at the time I saw it, I thought it was a cautionary comedy, not near-future horror story. I didn''t imagine I''d see it come to life before my eyes in 2008.
The Wall STreet/GOP has proven to me that you can take an utterly incorrect premise, contradicted by every available fact, and you can get about 40%+ of Americans to believe it. The BIG LIE works better than ever, DESPITE GOOGLE.
If 40% of the country (and 85% of the Congress) can''t think, (or is simply bought out), as a country we are beyond Screwed. In fact, we are so beyond screwed, we can''t catch a cab back to Screwed from here. - Reply to this comment

- guarantee that none of these idiots even understand what you are alluding to, rickwar.
They think the big 3 are dying when they are outselling the imports by 40%. They think a 1.3 Trillion giveaway to Wall STreet is fine, but try to create a LOAN (not a giveaway, morons) for less than 3% of that, and they are all up in arms.
They believe whatever stupidity is the message of the day from Fox or CNN.
They can''''t think, and even with a tool like Google that puts infinite facts at your fingertips, they can''''t read the facts that exist.
GM, FORD, Chrysler massively outsell Totota, Honda AND Nissan....as they have for every year that stats have been kept....and they can''''t understand that.

- AND YES, the CEOs of the Big Three are paid too much money.... So this is the perfect time to fix that:
Create the 25 Billion loan, and make CEO pay reduction part of the requirement. Done.
See how easy that was?
And it didn''t cost the USA 7 Million taxpaying, mortgage paying jobs...and it didn''t shift 500 Billion of Pension Guarantees from the Big 3 onto the Federal ledger. http://tinyurl.com/5v7wu2 - Reply to this comment

OK Einstein, the big 3 sold 5.4 million units, 1.5 million more than the 3 foriegn competitors combined.....if they sell 5.4 million units and lose money, that tells me that their business model and management capabilities are for sheeet! Like many corporations today, they are top heavy and excessive compensation at the executive level overburden the bottom line...........and don''''t give me that *** about not wanting to lose these irreplacable people. If they F''''ed up a corporation with such a robust annual sales, I wouldn''''t trust them with a dime more of taxpayer money!

=====================================================
Well, I''d say their costs are higher because our esteemed REpublican Congressmen and Senators have ALREADY been giving massive taxpayer dollars to the import car companies...perhaps if they offered that SAME support to the domestic companies, the costs would start to line up.
Richard Shelby, supported by Wall Street contributions, as the designated GOP spokeman for the "let the Big Three Fail" talking points, helped give over half a BILLION in taxpayer money to build Mercedes, Honda, Hyundai plants in his home state of Alabama. http://tinyurl.com/5pmfbt http://tinyurl.com/5jykp5 - Reply to this comment

One last attempt because I think you might be worth it.
I know the Big 3 are profitable and we need to save them.
I know its only a loan and it worked before (1978, as I recall) for Chrysler.
I know the loans wouldnt be necessary if it werent for the current economic meltdown.
I agree that we are risking a depression by not granting a loan and it scares the H out of me.
But I also think that now is the time to tell Washington to get out of the way and let the Big 3 run their own business.
I also think now is the time to make the UAW part of the profitability equation, not part of the cost equation.
None of this will be done until we think about it.
These arent "idiot" ideas. They are part of what has worked before. Check out alan Mulally''s history (especially the Boeing part) he knows people who cna help Ford do it. - Reply to this comment

- More of those scary "numbers" for you idiots that want to let the big three fail because they''re "dying company whose cars nobody wants"
Number of US vehicles sold by the big 3 (GM, FORD, Chrysler) in 2008:
5,496,270
Number of US vehicles sold by the big IMPORTED three (Toyota, Honda, Nissan) in 2008:
4,054,494
US manufacturers outsold the 3 big importers by about 1.5 MILLION VEHICLES...that is, they sold 40% more vehicles than the importers.

It is utter stupidity to let our three largest industrial companies vanish by failing to provide a 25 Billion loan WHICH PAULSON IS AUTHORIZED TO PROVIDE NOW, while Giving away (not loaning) over 1.3 TRILLION DOLLARS to Wall Street which they hoard and use to pay bonuses.
Do you people not understand that the drop in sales is due to the fact that banks have QUIT WRITING LOANS???
Do you not undertand that the Big Three are PROFITABLE??? http://tinyurl.com/292pzx

Your last posts seem to set that tone dont they? Words like "stupid", "idiots", and "morons" dont convince many people. Do they convince you? I can use them if they do.
Its sad, because I think the loan could work and will probably be good if you include some government concessions to go with it. But you and I will never be able to discuss that. For stupid, idiot, moron reasons. - Reply to this comment

Volkswagen 368,938 378,041
Hyundai Motor America 358,484 388,639
For you idiots saying that these are dying companies, I want you to (attempt) to read the top four lines of this chart.
The big 3 are BY FAR the largest vehicle producers and sellers in the USA.
They employ over 7 MILLION Americans who pay taxes and mortgages.
The tiny 25 Billion LOAN (not bailout you morons) is CHEAP to keep them afloat through this GOP/Wall STreet created economic nightmare.
You idiots are so easily manipulated by the GOP that you will let the last remaining large industrial producers go out of business for want of a 25 billion LOAN, while letting Wall Street walk away with 1.3 TRILLION in GIFT MONEY that use to pay Bonuses.
I don''t know, maybe this country is too stupid to continue to exist. - Reply to this comment
- Well Congress should tell the auto companies to check with their high priced lawyers, and ask them what the word Bankruptcy means, and then tell them to make use of those bankruptcy laws to rearrange their businesses.
And then they can all fire themselves, and let some competent people operate their failing businesses.
The only sane bailout proposal I have heard, came from a lady truck driver. she suggested the government take that 700/850/1000 billion dollars bailout money and give it to the American taxpayers to go out and spend. That would fix the problem faster than giving it to dead beat auto executives; who were too *** lazy to climb themselves into a Ford Taurus, and drive themselves to Washington, instead of putting carbon footprints all over the sky with their fancy jets. - Reply to this comment
- Since 1964 when the first "safety regulations" went into effect they were "mandated by the government" but they were not funded. Who paid? We did in the increasing cost of the product. Many forget that until just a few years ago the imports got an additional 2 years to meet those regulations. Who absorbed the cost? Detroit, then us. Talk about uncompetitive policies.
GM is the biggest supplier of healthcare in the country, the cost is huge, the imports, unless made here have Government healthcare and Government retirement
Have the big three made wrong decisions? You bet. Are they competitive? You bet. 18.9 mil vehicles worldwide that''''s the big 3 71 mil vehicles sold. Not a bad %

NOW WE ARE TALKING!!!!
I would support, might even help champion a solution that included solutions to these problems. Heck, solutions to this might even point the way to saving some of our other businesses. I dont think the American worker is overpaid, just under-utilized and has one hand ties behind his back. I dont think the american CEO is overpaid either but they need to be held to profit and labor considerations, not just stock holder goals and tax burdens. - Reply to this comment
