It does not require a Ph.D. in Ecomomics to understand that when you write massive numbers of mortgages for people who do not possess the ability to make the monthly payments that you are subverting basic economic principles and risking financial catastrophe. A catastrophe which would be paid for with someone elses'' money, I should add. This is not like opening a charge account at Target so that you can float a toaster oven for a couple of months. Yet, this is exactly how the issuance of these mortgages was treated. Now you see the end result.
