- Wait till people have to pay for heating oil this winter.
#2 oil is cheaper to produce than gas and doesn''t have tax on it
why do the oil companies sell it for more than gasoline? - Reply to this comment
- Since home fuel costs have increased by more than 25% this year after increasing about 15% last year, food has increased dramatically, insurance and other utilities are also up, and my salary has been flat for 5 years, my rebate went to pay for essentials. I no longer go to movies or concerts. I can''t be the only one.

Bush-
This was a very good meeting. And I look forward to my next meeting with President Putin in July. I very much enjoyed our time together.
He''s an honest, straightforward man who loves his country. He loves his family.
We share a lot of values.
I view him as a remarkable leader.
I believe his leadership will serve Russia well. - Reply to this comment

- "Retail sales figures are only good when people can charge stuff that they never pay for"
It''s the American way. Look at the bright side the $600 surge worked for almost a month. And to think winter coming early this year. Back to school they can wear last years sneekers and clothes. And ditch the cell phone JR thinks he needs. Better learn to say no now. Spoiled brats - Reply to this comment
- My guess is that mid-August / summer is generally slow. Subtract auto and give something real to discuss. Sure looks like an up-tick in retail hiring.. eRetailCareers.com

- How can we afford retail items when the cost of gas, groceries, and utilities have hit the all time high...I guess I should be happy to be able to pay of these items!

- all my money is going into my gas tank and food on my table. But when I do buy I buy as much USA products as I can as we should be helping our companies not China''s companies. I understand it''s not that cut and dry but it''s better than giving all my money to other countries!!!!

- What, the retail giants don''t wish to contribute to the "Bush stimulus plan", aka the "Last Cash Grab for the Oil Men?"
Did anyone actually expect, with gas at $4 a gallon, that people would have extra cash around to pay anyone but the Oil Man? Why the surprise then, when Retail Man has to pay a bit of the price? - Reply to this comment

- Consumers are spending money because they either don''t have it, or if they have it, may not have it for too much longer.
