The Energy Department now reports that with the current technology that the United States has access to 1,744 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. That''s a lot. And Americans consume roughly 23 trillion cubic feet each and every year. At that rate, we have enough natural gas to satisfy the demand for the next 75 years. Conceivably, more natural gas could become available with technological advances and discovery.

Portland Oregon has been running their City Bus system on Natural Gas for over 10 years.

This comment is so good it needs to be repeated:

"They call themselves "americans" but these global capitalists are the same sociopaths that built empire in the old world. They use corporate charters, global trade agreements, manipulation and control of the monetary and economic system to build empire. The wealth they build in unconscionable. This is what evil truly is."

Gas was $1.14 when the Clintons left now it''s $4.19 a gal.

2 Liter Coke a Cola was $.89 cents now it''s $1.99.

Folks we''ve been shammed by the Republicans in believing that tax cuts for the rich would bring the poor and working class prosperity.

Instead we pay for their tax cuts through hyper-inflation.

Hyper-inflation = more then 15% increase year over year.

Thanks Repubs for destroying our economy. I hope Obama has the patience to undue the damage by Bush and Cheney.

T Boone Pickens has a plan...

Obama has a plan...

Engineers around the world have a plan...

But the big oil companies have a bigger plan, and it trumps every plan every other person on this planet has, and that is...

...money. And lots of it. All going to those who don''t make plans... but who make laws and regulations. And their plan is to stay in their political position as long as they can, so they answer to the plans that affords them to remain in Washington DC.

So much for "plans".

So basicly we recycle our pension retirement money at the pump.

Sounds stupid to me.

Look, folks I''ve been trying to tell you that the financial system is engineered so that the worker has to eat his own retirement and pension now at the pump.

If you can''t see that then you don''t understand anything about economics.

Another thing, this system works for Republicans because then they can hide behind the "hyper-inflation tax."

It''s where you don''t pay taxes but just the equivalent or even higher in inflation. But instead of the inflation tax going to government it goes to profits.

It''s called soak the poor through inflation.

I hope Obama tax these clowns to death and then nationalize the oil companies because it''s all a sham.

l8c6, my ideal of morality is just fine. I go to church every Sunday and put lots of money in the collection basket which makes my preacher happy. I am sure he tells God of the amount I put in there and God will welcome me into heaven with oipen arms when my time comes.

Unfortunately it is not what you give that gets you into heaven, it is what is in your heart. Read the Bible and you would know this.

Legalize hemp, it produces better suited oil for ethanol than any other crop. The byproducts can be used for clothing, rope, as well as many other things.

"Washington, one Democratic proposal would impose a 25 percent tax on "unreasonable" profits of the top five oil companies, which together made more than $120 billion in 2007, and put the money toward a trust fund for investment in alternative energy sources. Republicans say it''s a gimmick that won''t help at the pump and will discourage domestic oil production."
----------------
Oil companies are "oil companies" not "alternative energy companies". They have no business managing anything other than oil exploration and profits on oil production.

Our government is not investing in alternative energy any of that extra $100B they are raking in today on those oil company profits.

Anyone that really believes our government will tax the oil companies to lower prices at the pump is a product of our public education.

Governments current windfall taxes are not being spent to help Americans. Why should we believe that additional taxes will be spent on such?

Is the American public really that foolish?

"What has our government done with that extra cash?"

our government has gotten us into a war (costing billions of dollars a month) designed to perpetuate the profits of the oil companies.

Our Government has taken in over 100B in taxes on those oil profits these last two years.

What has our government done with that extra cash?

Our government wants you to believe big oil companies are the bad guys so that our government can distract you so they can pick your pocket.

Our government should be using some of that extra/bonus profit driven tax revenue to fund alternate energy studies.

Instead, we got the short sighted ethanol rush which benefits farm corporations at the expense of dinner on our tables.

Our government is the cause of high gas and food prices.
