Comments on: Stimulus Checks Making Economic Waves
Payments Give Huge Jolt To After-Tax Incomes And Consumer Spending But Boost May Not Last
- What a stupid headline for a stupid article. My rebate check was literally sucked up by my gas tank and the grocery store long before it ever arrived. It''s just another glaring reminder that our president is an economic idiot and quite possibly retarded. I don''t know anyone who went out and bought useless *** with their check. Rich people cannot fully understand a recession, because it doesn''t affect them. Manipulate the numbers all you want, the economy still sucks.

- Also, it is the Democrats who want a second stimulus check despite the budget deficit.
I will not defend Bush, who has run the economy into the ground by spending money the government doesn''t have. However, I don''t count on the Democrats to produce a balanced budget or a tax code that is motivated by rational spending and anything beyond "tax the rich". No, I''m not rich. I just believe that the death of our democracy comes when people vote to tax others and redistribute the money to them. - Reply to this comment
- "I don''''''''t understand why Republicans think tax cuts to the rich is not the same as inflation caused by deficit spending."
Huh? This statement doesn''t make any sense. What does one have to do with the other? How flat/progressive the tax code is, what the balance between taxes and spending is, and if the budget is balanced are three different issues. It is definitely possible to design a flat tax and still balance the budget. In fact this can be done with a number of different tax rates depending upon how much the government spends in return. The above statement makes no sense. - Reply to this comment
- I''ve noticed how stimulated the economy is in this past weeks stock market. So how can anyone make such a ridiculous statement??

Its not about logic, economics, or financial solving problems. Its about a out-of-control GOP whose greed has taken this country''s resources and flushed-it down the toilet for their wealth.
Actually, Reaganomics was a old trick that Hoover attempted to sell - he lost the second term of presidency. Why American allow this politics to go unchecked is mainly due to public ignorance. - Reply to this comment

- As usual with CBS headlines. There''s always a but in there. If they don''t know for sure that it will not last, hence the "may", why bother to insert? Could it be that they enjoy spreading doom?

- In response to post indicating Obama has offered no specifics for his programs.
I have visited his website and Senator McCains''. On Obama''s you will find VERY specific details of many of his positions. He is offering detailed plans for any of use to peruse. I do not find that level of detail on other sites.
In fact, we in the media know that people frequently complain that there is not enough detail in public statements. But when detail is offered, it is very lightly read, viewed, or listened too. THAT is a tragic thing.
Lets demand the detail AND pay attention to it when offered while we ignore the platitudes. If "We the people"actually DO that, the political parties will very quickly come into line. They reflect our behavior. - Reply to this comment
- How can anyone take that list seriously? There is no mention of William Jefferson for his 91K in the freeze or Harry Reid for his land deal where he made 800K overnight. There are more dems that should also be on that list such as Ted Kennedy for murder. That is just off the top of my head. I%u2019m not saying the Republicans that are corrupt don%u2019t deserve to be called out, but that list is a very partisan list.

Poor Repugs... Doing everything they can to avoid seeing reality. There''''s no more crooked group of people than the Republican Party. Yes, many politicians regardless of party are crooked, but per Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, 18 of the top 22 corrupt politicans are Republicans. This is more than a statistical anomaly.

- Trying to stick at the subject on hand, though, I am surprised this article is actually not more critical. I mean, are we going to get stimulus checks every month? I doubt that this will have any real effect in helping the economy. This is only my opinion (well, others as well), but to use a phrase from Bush, history will be the judge... (which is an idiotic phrase, but it''s typical of Bush'' rhetoric...)

Rusty9j, didn''t you read BarbaraM99''s post..she said she is legally blind since birth and didn''t have any proper schooling..don''t be dissing us over 50 year olds unless you have been there. Now in order for us to have independent energy we have to use existing technology and comme up with some serious solutions. I for one think that using hydrogen feul cell technology and new forms of electrical energy technology can make a difference in our energy condundrom. - Reply to this comment
