Armadillo was good until they said you could catch leprosy from it; nobody I knew ever did. Wild duck and geese is good and in the South people shoot squirrels. Fish is always good. But squirrels are like tree rats, so I will not eat them.

Armadillo?????? I live in Texas where they are plentiful and usually dead on the road side.
How about publishing a "New Road Kill Cook Book"

Just a question "what is there to eat?" The things I have shot are basically hollow.

In Texas at least if a family has no meat in their home, they can legally shoot a deer and take it home.
Hunting season or not, it matters little when you have to feed your family. Obama was right when he said people are clinging to their guns and religion.
"Lord give me a straight aim, I need that deer"
I am afraid we are about to return to the old west days in a manner of speaking.

Spam is good....it cleans out the pipes and slides out of the can easily. The perfect combo.

''Love it, hate it or laugh at it - at least it''s inexpensive.''

It''s also very unhealthy.

So we are reading about the gas stealers- punching holes in tanks and taking the $100 worth of gas. (Only do the plastic tanks! Not the metal ones!)

Times are desperate! Let''s get out our 30-30''s and 12-gauges and do some huntin'' - you will be habitat-loving, wildlife-aware, BLM-loving, enviros before you know it!

Spam - NO! Venison - YES!

Spinster2 and cfin are so right!

What is SCRAPPLE???

----

Pork scraps (odd parts not always part of the recipe BTW) with cornmeal mush, season and formed into loaves and cooled.
Slice and fry, can be topped with maple syrup, white gravy or whatever trips your trigger.
I was raised on the stuff ... we used the *trimmings* package that came back from the slaughterhouse (which did not contain the odd parts) when we sent a hog in to make it.

It looks like hunting will be coming back in a big way. I don''''t personally care too much for deer meat but it sounds pretty good after a spam dinner.

Posted by Spinster2 at 09:24 PM : May 28, 2008------Some of the old bucks are hard on the nose. Soak a couple of the steaks in leftover dill pickle juice in a zip lock freezer bag for about three days. The green juice will turn brown from pulling the scent tainted blood out of the meat. Then grill it. It will taste like dill pickled steak, but it''s better than that armpity turnoff. Main reason I take a doe for myself.

I''m glad I ate already before reading this. I don''t feel so good.

For the same price or less you can do chicken in a can, tuna, all kinds of different soups and different pasta meals.
