"You can thank the democrats for not allowing any new drilling. They are on about the same level as the oil speculators."

Nice try, professor. It is hysterical when right-wing idiots try to pin this on anyone but the Republicans. The FACT is, when Bush took office, gas was at $1.39 a gallon. Now it''s $3.80. Over seven years, it has increased almost 200%. Enough said.

I have slowed to 55mph. It takes me 5 minutes more to get to work 30 miles away, and 10 minutes longer getting home. I went from filling every four days to once every seven and my mpg has increased dramatically. I have done this for the last 2 months, proof enough to me that I determine what I spend, not the gas companies.

What good is protecting a species in danger of extinction if the human race becomes extinct in the process?

Posted by msay3 at 12:36 PM : May 21, 2008

The human race is going to become extinct. The question is do we take all living things with us?

Perhaps I should clarify my previous statement..
the 10-02 area of ANWR is a very small portion of the entire Alaska National Wildlife Refuge....We could drill for oil and still maintain the wildlife on that preserve without endangering the bears or anything else. If the entire area of ANWR were the size of a coffe table, for example, the 10-02 area is about the size that the coffee table leg would take up. It can be done with proper planning....

Major U.S. oil companies continue to NOT pay windfall profit tax. This money could be used to offset the high prices of runaway inflation, if only King George would get off his knees and stop blowing the big boys.

Oscarez: I sure hope not...We are the stupid ones, not the animals that are trying to survive in this crazy world that we live in....Please don''t think that I was suggesting that we sacrifice the animal kingdom for our ineptness...Hey! I like animals far better than humans..They don''t play games....

I know what will solve the oil price problem! With more tax cuts to the rich people gasoline will go back down to 99 cents in a short period of time.

Opec producers have said that they would be happy at $50 a barrel. Posted by hunterdon6

One thing to remember under the Clinton era, he depleted our national oil reserve to keep the prices lower. In the last 8 years, we are still filling this reserve back up for what Clinton did. The Opec producers have said that they would be happy at $50 a barrel. As long as oil companies can pad the bank rolls of both Rep. & Dems in congress, the cost of oil will be high.

10 years ago in September of 1998 I got a New Toyota Tacoma 4x4 and at Ammoco I was able to get SUPER UNLEADED 92 OCTANE for 1.09 a gallon and now in Missour its 3.89 a gallon today.

Don''t let go of your ankles yet. The senate just had a biefing with the oil exec''s. End result, enough hot air to heat a small city. No windfall tax of 80% of their profits. No, we are coming after you for fraud and you WILL be going to jail. Just a lot of hot air, smoke and mirrors.

If oil gets any higher we can always replace taxi cabs with horse & buggy, one room country school houses (1 - 6 grades), because we can''t afford busing, prairie dresses made from flour sacks (because Saks Fifth Ave. went out of business, and a big boom for midwives, because the hospital is just too far away!!

Bush promised the oil companies $3 per gallon gas before he left office, and boy has he delivered. Bush, Cheney, Rice, Rumsfeld, and untold others in this administration are now millionaires many times over.

Aren''t you glad that you voted for him twice.
