I do not have all of the answers but I do have two of them.

First, the oil supply drilled is roughly the same as it was two years ago as is the price of getting it out of the ground.

First, a punitive tax should be placed immediately on profits made on oil commodity trading. That will stop that nonsense and stop the practice of artificially setting the price of a bbl of oil upwards. Second, the entire taxing process from the time the oil is drilled to the time the gas is pumped into a car/truck tank needs to be very carefully reviewed. In the 70''s a number of taxes were paid based on the value of the oil. The higher the price of oil; the higher the tax.

What are the changes of these changes being made - nil and none because the oil lobby is just too strong.

I AM LOOKING FOR SOMEONE THAT WILL TAKE ACTION AGAINST THE HIGH COST OF OIL AND THE WAR!
THE OIL SITUATION IS PURE GREED!
THE FUTURES MARKET ALWAYS DRIVES UP THE COST OF OIL AND THE OIL COMPANIES ADD THEIR INCREASE! BUT OPEC WATCHES THE FUTURES MARKET AND INCREASES THE COST OF OIL SO THEY CAN GET THERE,S!
WE HAVE PLENTY OF OIL! THE OIL COMPANIES FIND OIL AND THEN CAP THE WELL! THEY TURN OFF THE ON SITE PUMPS SO THEY CAN CLAIM A SHORTAGE AND THEY KNOW WHERE THE OIL POOLS ARE BUT WHY DRILL FOR IT WHEN THEY ARE GETTING MOST OF THE MONEY? THEY KEEP A LIMITED AMOUNT OF REFINERIES SO THEY CAN CLAIM PRODUCTION IS THE CAUSE! WE NEED A PRESIDENT TO STOP THIS AND IN THE PROCESS REINSTATE THE ANTITRUST ACT!
AND THE CURRENT CANDIDATES JUST WONT CUT IT! THEY WILL GIVE US A CRUMB AND THIS RIP OFF WILL CONTINUE!

as *investors* questioned whether a *possible* confrontation between the U.S. and Venezuela *could* cut exports from the OPEC member.
---

Key words
investors (futures speculators), possible & could

The whole thing has nothing to with supply and demand, just speculators running up contract prices using "possible" and "could" as excuses/

There is no shortage of oil right now. The oil in ANWR should remain there as a strategic reserve if and when we really need it.

Then again, we shouldn''t have to pump every lost drop of oil out of the ground before we come up with alternatives. Oil companies are an obstacle to the energy independence of this country.

[There is suppose to be enough coal in this country to meet our energy needs for several hundred years there is also nuclear energy, but the democrats have stopped every attempt to expand their use.]

you keep saying this ... but provide no specifics. repeating it over and over doesn''t make it so.

why don''t you explain how the democrats stood in the way of this between 2000 and 2006 when the republicans had complete control?

everyone wanted to see what cheney''s energy policy entailed ... but they claimed executive privelage ... took it all the way to the ussc ... and we still don''t know what the plan is. did IT include coal and nuclear?

WINDFALL PROFIT TAX has not been paid by the oil companies since Bush took office seven years ago. Imagine what financial off-set it might mean, if they were forced to pay a fraction of their quarterly profit margin. It''s a sin that they take the money and run and then charge us up the wa-zoo.

Those folks in Congress an all three of those running for President, can readily afford high gas an food prices, therefore, we get no Drilling an Refineries. They claim its to save the Climate, however, explain to me then why are other countries drilling like mad. Take Brazil, they had bifuels from sugar, but now they have one of the biggest oil finds in History. Are they just going to sit on it. Heck no they want to join OPEC. Some folks blame the President but he has been trying to get more drilling an refineries, but those in Congress with the power, refuse. First things first. Get us independent of OPEC an foreign oil, as we research for other means.

The rightwingnut''s mantra. "Drill, drill, drill." What do they have against alternate renewable fuels? We have the money and the brains. All we need is a goverment that isn''t in big oil''s pocket like all the incumbents.
