"Organizations engaged in charitable, political and survey work are exempt"
Here''s the glaring, self-serving, loop-hole for politicians - and, unlike charities and surveys you can''t ask them to take your name off their list - because the political calls are made by robots that just fill up your voice-mail. If they had to include politicians they never would have passed a bill.
Amen..I hope this passes.. Ye can add yer cells on the do not call list as well. My friend put the home phone on that..He put his cell on that list as well. Right now it is 5 years if my memory is right..
DON''T FORGET: YOUR BANK AND CREDIT CARD COMPANIES WILL ALWAYS IDENTIFY THEMSELVES TO YOU WHEN THEY CALL YOU. NEVER, NEVER, NEVER GIVE YOUR BANK OR CREDIT CARD INFORMATION TO CALLERS WHO WON''T IDENTIFY THEMSELVES.
I`d take this one step farther: I never give any bank, credit card or other personal information over the phone to anyone who calls me. I only do it if I`m calling them (for example, to order something) and know for sure to whom I`m speaking. (Of course, the bank and credit card companies with whom I do business already have this information, and they`d never ask me for it.)
I got a new cell phone last fall. The company I got it from promptly sold the number to telemarketers. My number is on the no call list. I make a list every week of the numbers and turn them in to the FCC. I am hearing impared and only have a cell phone for emergencys so I have never given the number out nor do any business by phone.
Yeah, the law is all cozy and nice until you realize that all IN STATE telemarketers can still call you. So, you still have home improvement calls, election calls and every other exempt nonsense they can come up with. Until it''s universal and covers ALL telemarketing, it''s useless.
Lets get honest telemarketing should be outlawed it''s nuisence I get at least 20 calls a week from newspaper trips insurance and warranties I don''t have. It just shows our leaders are bought and paid for. If you want something you will go out and buy it, they prey on the weak and lonely, make it illegal.
I recently moved and did not put my name on the list. I get 2 to 4 calls per day. My son and I have a game called"Fun With Telemarketers". We made a dial that we spin each time one calls to determine how we handle the call. There are things on the dial like "game show" where we tell the telemarketer they are playing a game. We also have cancer kid where my son pretends to be a bed ridden leukemia patient who is lonely. There is one called bathroom where he yells everything they say to me through the bathroom door. Another one is "Bottom Line" where I tell them they must answer my questions in as few words as possible or I will hang up. We even have one called let''em pitch where we just let go on and on. There is one called lie, lie, lie where we lie to them about evrything they ask. Another one is "sales pitch" where we try to sell them something. It has turned out to be immense fun but a lot of them hang up on us..how rude. I had my phone listed under an alias so I didn''t have to pay for an unlisted number so it is very easy to tell right off the bat when a telemarketer is calling. I was offended by the robocalls from Mike Huckabee because recordings can''t play.
