- Another *** bill the *** president wants the American people to swallow. Seems clear his brown-nosing in Saudia Arabia (keep them oil prices down fer a little while longer, boys!), his cabinet peace-keeping overtures in the Middle East (let''s keep the body count down for a few months, ''kay?) and this legislation, all add up to trying to win a couple points on the popularity meter. The good news is that he''s gotten a bump from all this - he''s way up to 31% approval now!

- "One Big Lie"
Here''''s a preview of tonight''''s Bill Moyers'''' Journal, centering on the 935 lies leading up to the war. Good to see this report getting traction. Overall, it''''ll be a scathing indictment of the overall craven dishonesty of this administration on practically every matter this country has dealt with.

- To all in the Senate:
DON''T LISTEN TO BUSH IF IT''S ANYTHING "URGENT!" Didn''t you learn your lesson in the months following 9/11? Give it CAREFUL, REASONED thought before acting. We wouldn''t get the $300 or whatever until May at the soonest anyway. - Reply to this comment
- MY view is this is about as MORONIC of a Bill as they come!!
It does EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE of what the PURPOSE was supposed to be!!
Did ANYBODY PAY ATTENTION to what the FED CHAIRMAN SAID last week??
HE said that ANY stimulus IF attempted needed to be:
1. TIMELY - out the door in WEEKS not MONTHS
2.TEMPORARY - Since WHEN have tax and BUSINESS WRITE-OFFs proven to be TEMPORARY. They start out that way but like the Bush "temporary" tax giveaway to the WEALTHY - as soon as the INK is dry there''s outcry that to STOP it would be a "betrayal".
3. TARGETED - to the SECTOR that WILL SPEND it.
He SPECIFICALLY noted that IF the beneficiaries of this "stimulus" either paid off debt or PUT IT IN THE BANK it would be better to NOT appropriate money for stimulus as it WOULD NOT STIMULATE the economy which was the PURPOSE TO BEGIN WITH.
Like so MANY other things the Bush Administration did this NEW fiscal IDIOCY has started with GOOD INTENTIONS and has BEEN SUBVERTED to further DESTROY our economy and EXACERBATE the SYSTEMIC problems that are RUINING our Nation.
IF you HAVE PLENTY of money, any extra is BANKED NOT SPENT.
It is a MONETARY FLOW (spending) problem!!!
IT IS NOT a WINDFALL FOR the well-off problem !!
So WHY STEAL FROM our POOR and our CHILDREN AGAIN to provide a GIVEAWAY TO THE WELL OFF????
Wasn''t it the NEOCONS that GRIPED that a FAMILY EARNING $67,000 WAS TOO WEALTHY for SCHIP??
This is just ANOTHER WELFARE FOR THE WEALTHY vote buying scheme. - Reply to this comment
- I agree, wholly and without a drop of sarcasm or any other gen-x idiosyncrasy.
This act is a stepping stone until longer-term issues can be ironed out.
(There are times when even I believe flippancy is utterly non-entertaining. Forgive me for a 100% serious commentary.) - Reply to this comment

- Thought this set of comparisons might be interesting:
Jan 25(AP)
How Americans in different financial situations would fare under the rebate plan proposed by House leaders and the White House.
An individual with $2,500 in earned income in 2007: Disqualified because income fell below the $3,000 threshold. No rebate.
A married couple with no children, with adjusted gross income of $100,000 in 2007: Would qualify for the full $1,200 couples. A $1,200 rebate.
A worker with one child, who earned $9,000 and owed no taxes in 2007: Would qualify for the $300 rebate available to individuals who pay no taxes but earned at least $3,000, plus an additional $300 for the child. A $600 rebate.
A couple with income of $145,000 in 2007, with three children: Would qualify for the full $1,200 for couples, plus $300 for each child. A $2,100 rebate.
A couple with income of $160,000 in 2007 with two children: Would qualify for a partial rebate, reduced by $50 for every $1,000 in income above the $150,000 threshold. An $1,800 rebate - $1,200 for the couple plus $300 per child - would go down by $500 for this family. A $1,300 rebate.
A couple with income of $200,000 and four children: Disqualified because their income exceeded $174,000, the phase-out limit. No rebate.
An individual with adjusted gross income of $23,000 and no dependents would get a rebate of $600.
A couple with adjusted gross income of $184,000 and two children would get a $100 rebate" - Reply to this comment
- Of course they''re going to add to the bill. When the government is handing out money, corporate america is always first in line.

Slim your post was exactly what I wanted to say and thank you for your letter to Beautiful Nancy who cares so little for the fixed income in this country. What we do not buy gas for our cars? we do not buy food? we do not buy food? we do not have prescription drugs to buy? we get a 20 dollar raise and we stay in the hole. Thanks Slim maybe they just want us to disappear. they are trying with all their might to take our social security away now.hat should we do then? I think we contributed a heck of a lot to this country and it is not their money it is ours we earned and paid every dime into it and Bush stole it all - Reply to this comment
- Let''s all go vote for the Fascist this november and that way we can make SURE our kids, their kids and their Grandkids have a nice healthy debt to pay off. LOL It''s hard to imagine how one party can have a policy fail as badly as this one has OVER and Over and over again. But what is so funny is that the sheep who keep buying this Tax Cut, Trickle Down Lie!! You can almost hear the robot, who ever the nazi''s pick, singing the same tired old song.. I''ll cut taxes, I''ll cut spending, I''ll balance the budget! ROFLAMO What is so funny about these freaks is THEY were HANDED a Balanced Budget AND a surplus. Now what would make any fool so stupid to believe, when they couldn''t maintain a balanced budget, that they will EVER do anymore than they always have... give us MORE debt!! Sieg Heil Bush!!

Teach a man to fish = feed him for a lifetime
Those are still wise words. What America needs is expendable income at the end of the month. And the jobs that can provide that. Having the Gov. make a housing payment for me will be forgotten the following month. This money really needs to be spent on energy independence projects that put Americans to work! This is soo stupid and short sighted. - Reply to this comment
- Dear Ms. Nancy Pelosi,
I would think that you, being a democrat, would have fought for me being disabled with the rising energy prices. My wife, because of the laws (time expired) cannot get disability, and I would have like to have spent some money for the economy for things we needed like food and fuel and clothes in the stimulus package not coming to us. We are living hand to mouth this year alone we, I, got a big raise from S.S. $20.00. Are you a republican? I thank you! "Keep up the good work". Does this party really hear the hurting American people? Or are they becoming Republican? As you know I am being sarcastic with these statements.
Please is there anyone in America who would help 45 million people who need help? This is an advertisement for everyone now running for office.
We are Americans!!
I am trying to keep my cell phone minutes to a minimum! For this is all we can afford in respect to a phone!
Why Bash someone were others are also to blame!

I mean it slim! Thank you for responding to me and all the others who are in my boat. I wish I could Run for President because I would make sure help all the homeless was provided for! I would with the help of experts get the terrorism stop. I would get the 401k and social security mess solved for the younger and the older. I would make sure the economy was balanced for everyone. I would make the decisions necessary for the deployment of justice for everyone in my itinerary! - Reply to this comment
