Congress, White House Announce Deal On Tax Refunds, Business Breaks To Boost Economy
- Why aren''''t they working on raising salaries, creating jobs, getting rid of this abhorrent occupation of Iraq, reforming welfare and encouraging people to work, a universal health care plan? Geezus!

Hey, guess what? America runs on money. I won''t gripe about getting a bit more back.
As for raising salaries, the feds have little to do with that, that is decided by the corporate bigwigs and board members.
As for Iraq, Quit griping on here, and start a letter-writing campaign, call, e-mail & write your congressman. Get petitions out. Those are just a few of the things you can do to help get us out of there. It worked with the amnesty bill.
Richard Nixon outlined a plan called workfare. Much like the old WPA and CCC during the depression. Welfare recipients would still get checks, but those physically able would have to work on government-sponsered projects to earn it. The Dems voted it down, guess it would''ve interfered with their civil rights.
I seriously doubt, that we will ever have a true national health plan. And if we do, the paperwork will be staggering, and the system will be corrupt. - Reply to this comment
- Now for some News of the Weird...
"Among conspiracy theories today, some claim that Henry Paulson was assasinated on January 2, 2008. When confronted about this, George W. Bush replied that such claims were false and that Henry Paulson was alive and well. On January 4, 2008, the White House held a press conference with Henry Paulson. However, conspiracy theorists on Youtube claim that the image of Paulson was actually a hologram projected or a clone and that the White House was actually covering up the assasination."

- "Asked about this, Paulson praised Reid''s leadership but said, "I don''t know what he has in mind."
Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson is a Christian Scientist / animal rights activist / environmentalist.
He"s a rarity in the Bush administration. - Reply to this comment

It would take more than a few hundred bucks to turn that frog into a prince.
Bush may not be on the ballot in 2008, but he"ll be in the race.
As Willie Horton once was. - Reply to this comment

Wait till you see the one in November -- and not just on Iraq.
The GOP will be surging out of Washington DC, not to return to the White House for the next 8 years.
Count on it. - Reply to this comment
- "I have a simple question..... Where do I go to read all the fine details of this rebate?"
- Posted by prdream8 at 08:24 AM : Jan 25, 2008
Once all the details are worked out it should be easy to find.
www.whitehouse.gov will either have it, or point to where the details may be found.
All the major news websites, including this one, will have links to it.
Your local library reference desk will have it.
Etc. etc... - Reply to this comment

- I guess this is the new political gimick. If you are a politician and have screwed the American people to the point that we actually curb our spending, therefore huring big business, just take tax payer dollars and and give it back to the tax payers dusguised as a gift.
What is even worse is i am hearing they want to send $300.00 checks to people who don''t end up paying any income tax. If that is not re-distributing income I don''t know what is. - Reply to this comment
- This is really just an advance on our 2008 refunds. It will make the refunds we receive in Spring, 2009, smaller.
And in the case of divorced parents who alternate claiming a child as a dependent, and also in the case of a parent who''s child turns 13 (no more day care deduction) or 17 (no more child deduction), it will cause the parent to possibly have to PAY TAXES.
This is just a scheme to make Bush look good in 2008, and President Obama to look bad in 2009.
