...Instead of trying to work around the problem, we need to solve the problem. Enough of all the sexual imagery on television, music videos, magazines etc. and sexual innuendos on children and teen channels. this is ridiculous.

What we need to do is identify the problem,
How''s this:

Consensual *** is not Bad, Unwanted Pregnancy is Bad.

Now was that so difficult?...

Let''s pull out our head from underneath the sand and realize that we first have to respond to the high level of sexual imagery on every media forum. Instead of trying to work around the problem, we need to solve the problem. Enough of all the sexual imagery on television, music videos, magazines etc. and sexual innuendos on children and teen channels. this is ridiculous.

"The results showed that five years after taking the virginity pledge: 82 percent of pledgers denied ever having taken the pledge."
~~~~~~~~
Let''s pull our collective and individual heads out of the sand and admit abstinence promotion programs should be changed to education programs.
Since most teenage boys (maybe most men in general) are just hound-dogs when it comes to se*xx, let''s educate our daughters to protect themselves from STDs and pregnancy. Ignoring this behavior doesn''t mean it doesn''t exist, and acknowledging it doesn''t mean you approve. Just educate your daughters so you won''t have to deal with an unwanted pregnancy.
LOL I don''t think ANYONE has to "discredit" Fundies! They do that just fine themselves. If you doubt the absolute FAILURE of the Religious Reich, use your search engine and pull up the HISTORY of the Southern Baptist! Now you want to talk about being on the WRONG side of HISTORY? Supported Jim Crowe, Child Labor and the right of employers to discriminate. They stood against women''s right to vote, Blacks right to vote, the 40 hour work week and Tobacco Warnings. The one thing they were for, when 80% of their ministers were members of the Klan but are against today? Separation of Church and State! Go figure!
jmcgilvray...............now we are trying to change the definition of pervertion- propaganda, i think so. desire does not mean that one has to do it. if it did society wouldn''t last two years.
Propaganda, I think so. It won''t work when we have all these subliminal messages on tv, magazinees, and every form of media having such influences on impressionable young people. The reason it doesn''t stop teen *** is because of society pushing ***. Duh.
Teenage relations is when it is the most exciting and every encounter is a memorable learning expeeience.
Teaching the common sense of protection, both from disease and pregnancy, is mandatory. Not much one can do to stop what comes naturally and is lots of fun.
The downside occurs during spousal selection, when the past presents itself and the one you want finds you repulsive for your past acts. Well, that''s the way it goes.
There is something nice about a person who hasn''t swapped liquids with hundreds of people.
Hormones are hormones. If you teach a teen about protected intercourse, they are more apt to use the protection. Teaching abstinence on the other hand goes against every raging hormone in a teenagers body.
Having the mindset that says "if they don''t know about it, they wont do it" is unrealistic. Think about how many 7 and 8 month babies were born to newlyweds before it was acceptable to be pregnant before marriage.
"Well, if there were some half decent parents out there, teaching their kids right from wrong, there wouldn''t be such a problem." -- erasmus606
That''s EXACTLY the kind of naive perspective that the abstinence only people suffer from! The desire to procreate is based on a biological imperative. Lectures from parents telling, their kids what''s "right" and what''s "wrong", have very little effect in over-riding the most basic drive of all biological beings.
Whether you like it or not, most human beings (of any age) are going to engage in s3xu@l activity when they get the opportunity. So, wouldn''t it be a good idea to tell the kids what they need to know about preventing unwanted pregnancy and disease? Or, do you think they should all just suffer and die because they chose to do something YOU think is "wrong"?
Well, if there were some half decent parents out there, teaching their kids right from wrong, there wouldn''''t be such a problem. It wouldn''''t solve it completely but it certainly would be a start.
