I cannot believe they thought they had to do a study on this; it should have been obvious to anyone who was a teenager and attended high school. GEEEZ.

In this "recession" or whatever, they still have to throw money at something stupid. I guess that''s why people are choosing to home-school their kids...but who knows what kind of adults they will become. Only time will tell.
Educate your kids (don''t wait until the schools get around to it). Assume YOUR responsibility and teach your kids about protection and diseases. Because kids will be kids and have s*e*x where ever and when ever they can. Just make them smarter about it.

This is just another failed example of trying to pay government workers to rear children. It didn''t work with the DARE (Drug Abuse Resistance Education)Program: no study has ever found a reduction in drug use from DARE, yet our hard-earned money is still poured down that rat hole. Abstinence education will never work, either.

What does work to help young people make the choices that are best for them is parental support and mentoring. If the federal government would remove itself from our public schools, and stop legislating and ruling against local school control on curriculum and disciplinary issues, states could reduce class sizes, because their would be fewer classes to teach and no need for alternative schools. Reduced class sizes and inflexible course selections would mean more opportunities for students to stay in school and graduate. Small class sizes are one proven way of giving students a better shot at achieving success, because of greater opportunities for individual attention and mentoring, yet every time the federal government steps in with new requirements, class sizes increase.

Thanks to the libs.. Pledges mean nothing.. They also taught our children the oral $ex isn''''t really $ex per the former president of the United States, Billy "I can''''t keep it in my pants" CLInTon..

Hmmm, I seem to remember George Bush pledging to be a uniter not a divider before he drove a big@$$ wedge into the heart of the country. And didn''t his Dad say he wasn''t going to raise taxes ever? Don''t be a hypocrite.

The Abstinence Only program needs to be the first to meet the chopping block. It''s only the product of a mindless boob that catered to religious nuts for a few votes. It''s a complete waste of time, money and only gives religion precious federal funds to waste on such ignorance. Everyone with a brain in their head knows it doesn''t work. There are actually a lot of we American''s who can think for ourselves out here. We don''t need to constantly consult a bible to make our daily decisions.

The law of unintended consequences at work once again. Virginity pledges actually have a NEGATIVE impact on the behavior that it was intended to affect.

Really? This is a surprise only to those advocating this rediculous idea. We all know how well abstention works in the heat of the night. This is just as rediculous as Nancy Reagan''s "just say no" to drugs drive. If it were only that easy.

What the h e l l happened to you? Did it fall off? It''''s been many years since I''''ve been a teen and still, every time I see, smell or hear a woman the first thing that popps into my head is s e x.

It still pops but I am better at controlling the external indications.

And Alcoholic''''s Annonymous doesn''''t stop drinking. Parole Officers don''''t stop criminals from relapsing, and on and on and on..............
None of that is news. Chicken soup doesn''''t prevent a cold, but that certainly doesn''''t make it a bad thing.

What makes it a bad thing is those, including the current president, who want abstinance to be the only thing taught to teens and forego any other type of education towards disease prevention and birth control.

O.K. Lets stop trying to fool ourselves. Teens are going to have *** that is just nature. Preaching abstinance only is idiotic you can not stop them from having ***. I remember when I was a teen and every time I saw, smelled, or heard a girl the first thing that popped into my head was ***. You can''t stop them the best we can do is try to educate them to prevent disease and unwanted pregnancy.

It''s not going to work. When you''ve NEVER been right in the past why should ANYONE listen to you NOW?? Sieg Heil and Amen

Let''''s pull out our head from underneath the sand and realize that we first have to respond to the high level of sexual imagery on every media forum. Instead of trying to work around the problem, we need to solve the problem. Enough of all the sexual imagery on television, music videos, magazines etc. and sexual innuendos on children and teen channels. this is ridiculous.

I grew up in the 50''s and you can''t get more FASCIST than they were then. I mean NOTHING even remotely close to sexual contact was allowed to be seen on TV, the movies or anything else! Did it help? NO! You can''t control Nature and you can''t tell a Teenager NOT to do something or NOT to look at something. That is the BEST way to make sure they DO look or watch! It''s called HUMAN Nature and we should turn over the Education of you youth to PROFESSIONAL''S who aren''t hamstrung by old tired and FAILED Religious Beliefs!!

That''s why the present situation exists - in schools AND in the media. Posted by kamsack50
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The present situation exists because parents abdicated their responsibility of raising their children. Now the teenagers run the family and parents cave in to demands for expensive electronic toys and designer clothes. There are no expectations and no consequence.
Educate your daughters. That is the only way to prevent STDs and unwanted pregnancies. If you want to spend your retirement raising your grandkids, then disregard this suggestion.
Feminist educators/teachers have been repeating this kind of air-head blurb since 1970. That''s why the present situation exists - in schools AND in the media.
Also, how do you so carelessly dismiss the sensitivity and ambivalence men and boys may have about sexx? Talk about dumb stereotyping.
