The other story is - that breeders are breeding FREAKS. A horse does not normally have pencil thin legs that are so fragile that an animal can sustain this kind of damage in a strong gallop. People want to whine about scientists who seek to clone stem cells and organs that can be useful to humans but it's okay for breeders to breed freaks.

It is a shame when such a beautiful animal has to be let go.That was a magnificant horse and I'm sure the owner did what had to be done to save that creature from suffering any longer.

This story is about Barbaro a brave and noble horse who did his very best out of love to his owners and his jockey..a noble animal who really tried to be the best he could,just by being himself. And this story is about how he lost his gallant struggle,and how his owners,because they couldn't see him suffer the way he was,made a very painful decision.Barbaro can inspire humans
by his courage,and his bravery.And,I do agree,he would have been this generations Secretariat.

You are right on the issue. I always loved animals and to a lesser extent, humans. I grew up in The Village, NYC in the 50's but will never forget those fabulous days

Farewell Barbaro, may you be at the Rainbow Bridge in heaven. I am so thankful the owners and vet decided to let him go. With Barbaro's pain escalating, it would have been cruel to let him remain alive. Now Barbaro is running in the fields of heaven, healthy and happy...

To all you low-life animal haters...IF YOU FEEL THE WAY YOU DO ABOUT HORSES AND ANIMALS IN GENERAL, WHY DID YOU READ THIS ARTICLE??? The headline alone indicated the nature of the story...

My sympathy to the owners and trainers. It is so hard to make the decision to let go of our pets..be they large or small. Most of the time, they are our best friends.

hey Elgraz, I am with you about the animal lover bit, and the ex? Well thank god you dumped her. I became a vegetarian last Feb aafter looking up dog eating in China. You want your heart to break? Look that up and look at their faces in all of the cages, it is the most horrifying thing. I don't belive in racing horses or greyhounds. People are just beasts when you think of it, and I am glad you are on the same page. My heart breaks for that horse, I hope he is great now someplace better than here. He didnt deserve this though, they should have still tried. I know he had a bad night last night, but anyone would a day of surgery, wht did they expect, no grogginess and soreness, give me a break.
