But Bloodshed Surges, Raising Bagdad's Death Toll To 180 In 4 Days
- Exactly, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make him drink it. If they don't want democracy who are we to impose it. As far as I'm concerned the whole neighborhood can keep on killing each other ad nauseam. If they don't care enough for their own freedom from oppresive government who are we to say they don't have the right to their own Stalins? Seems like they like that stuff to me. Can't live without it so to speak. If it was'nt for oil we would never be there anyway, otherwise we would be stopping the carnage elsewhere in the world. Who's kiddin who. I say get off the oil ramp up that nuclear power plant (and other alternatives) and let's throw the whole region back in history's wastebasket. Geez, they had to bought into the twentieth century kicking and screaming as it is, let alone the twenty-first century.

- America just needs to accept that they are neither the policeman nor the savior of the world.
You cannot jump-start democracy.

- The war in Iraq is not diminshing, the deaqth tolls are not dropping(August had 1535 civilians deaths from the conflict)September is not despite the adminstration efforts to curtail reporting is not dropping and on top of this on 9/11 the Iraqi Parliment was discussing for a vote to divide the country into three regions.Stay the course is not a policy just a sound bite without strategy,Our goverment needs a coherent policy that will force the Iraqi goverment to purge it's cabinet of all those with ties to the militias, insurgency and terrorist.Furthermore we cannot let Iraq divide into three regions, that would create a more dangerous enviroment with the Shiite's siding with Iran and a recruitment for the Sunnis to take up more arms against the Shiite's,Kurds and most importantly our troops. This is how the British handed over sovereinity and we all know the results of that. This is not anti Bush, this is against the continued stupidty and lack of vision this adminstration either does not have or are unwilling to accept.

- Bush cowardly dodged most of his service - even though he was safe at home. Cheney also dodged his. How many other "brave" politicians have dodged their patriotic duty?
The "armchair patriots" should stop their yapping and put their money where their mouths are.
Get out of that chair and get down to the recruitment centre instead of passing judgement on others (including those who have already served their country in Iraq).
But of course, they won't.
They SHOULD bring back the draft - and they SHOULD start with the sons and daughters of those who are in government - those who normally avoid their patriotic duty.
They should then round up the armchair patriots - those cowards who choose to sit and let others do their fighting for them, while preaching about how standing up for what you believe in is cowardly.
Anyone with any clue knows who the cowards are. - Reply to this comment
- Ya know if he's a bad commander in chief he's a bad commander in chief. Why stick with him. What just because he's president? No, I think not, his command needs to be removed. Show me where in American business or culture when someone is doing a lousy job he gets rewarded. Time for him and his cronies to go and I don't care who replaces him. The country would be hard pressed to find someone that could f*** it up more. The miltary can function just fine until we find an adequate replacement. I do have faith in that.

- My apologies bobbie19571.
I did not mean to say that I think all US soldiers should die. I was only pointing out to call 100+ gruesome deaths "a good start" or whatever the whitehouse said was stupid.
I certainly wish for no more deaths to anyone there, US soldiers or Iraqi civilians. - Reply to this comment
- There is no reason to think that the terrorist would end up with all the oil money. I have a strong feeling that if we got the hell out, a more moderate group would end up controlling things. No one wants to see the terrorist running things, but that is exactly what they are doing now. and our being there is not doing anything to help that situation.
Bush should seen a seasoned professional negiotator (and that excludes Condi Rice, who was never qualified to be Sec of State) to all the Middle East leaders to talk about US withdraw and bring in the UN. Make a short term and long term plan for stability.
You notice I don't say peace, cause I dont' think it will happen in my life time. But stability is possible.
Look, the instability of the Middle East benefits absolutlely no one with the possible exception of Al Quada. The rest of the world would work to bring stability - Reply to this comment
- Did he really say that? If so, I agree that is the closest thing to truth he has ever said. It would be even more truth to say that was his whole purpose to begin with.
Now, I am no soldier but I have a pretty good idea that if the USA got out of the middle of the civil war and joined with the UN as an international peace keeping force, things would go a lot better.
First all, the biggest recruiting tool Al Quada has would go away. Also the best training ground for those recruits.
Second, if we worked with the UN and with the other leaders of the Arab world and tried to bring stability to the region through diplomacy we would have much better results. All this instability benefits no one, with the exception of Al Quada. - Reply to this comment

Your statement that the president would be happy if all the US soldiers were killed in Iraq is maybe the stupidist thing I have ever read.

- Us Army 1984-88, Second Infantry division, M.O.S. 15 Juliet now 13 PaPa, you moron. There should be a draft for everyone, everyone, you, Puff daddy, Paris Hilton, Carson Daly everyone. Then maybe you would have enough knowledge to understand the military situation. Thats right, if you want to put lives at rick you better lead from the front or risk losing respect of your fellow GI's. Yes his daughters should serve and you and yours as well. Yes, Walk the walk if you are going to talk the chickenhawk talk partner.

You are a jackass. The president's daughter's are grown women and can not be made to enlist by anyone. How old are you and would you give your life for your country? Are you even American.
Because it doesn't sound like you would enlist and fight for your country. Even the fanatic muslims are willing to die for what they believe.
Unfortunately they believe we are infidals and should die. That is in Iraq, Iran and Afganastan.
It is such a shame the CNN (communist new network)
puts comments like your out for the world to see.

- if Bush so believes that the war on terror is a true world war and a threat to society/America why isn't he recruiting his own daughters?? Hmmmmmmm???? Because it's enough that you send your sons and daughters to fight for his most likely. You probably would not have to worry about having enough boots ob the ground if it was his daughters' a** on the line either. No one (Democrat or Republican)would ever doubt his sincerity if he could get just one of his daughters to enlist. Think about it. They should have listened to their own generals in the first place about the necessary troop levels needed to effectively win the fight. The dummies, GI's died because of wishful thinking. - Yeah. It basically does no good to say what I said. I just kinda wanted to point that out. Bush said the closest thing to the truth I've ever heard out of his mouth - which is "We just can't leave and let the terrorists have all that oil money". Yeh finally and oh yeah I love our soldiers and what they do for us. They just got some very bad leadership. Fighting for our freedom?? Bah humbug. Maybe they are NOW that bush admin created a big mess.

- I would like to say, it does not matter who was in Office everyone would be pointing there finger to someone to blame. I do know that in order to be Elected you basically have to graduate from Yale or Harvard. How many that have pointed there finger, have done that or even served our Military? I am thankful for what our Men and Women in the Service what they have done for us, So that we have the write to say our comments on line and were ever we like. Someone died so that we can have an opinion and Jesus Died so our sins can be forgivin. If you were faced to make the decisions for all the Nation like Bush, I know I would make some mistakes. It does not matter who is in Office GOD has planed what will happen. Seek, Repent, Pray for HIS wisdom and most important ask JESUS to take Control of your life!! God Bless G.W. Bush for he is under so many hard decisions, give him wisdom and mercy of those who do not understand.I ask that you protect our Men and Women who are serving our country so that we can have freedom, and Bless all the Mom's,Dad's,Wive's, Husband's, Son's, Daughter's, Girl Friend's, Boy Friend's and all family and friends who have loved ones Serving our Country!Thank you Jesus for there Sacrifice of there loved one's. - Bull on Greggr4 for his negative comments on the Democrats having no plan. What does he know about the Democrats plan? 0. I can guarantee you if the Dems would've been in control - we wouldn't even have gone into Iraq and turned it into a living hell. Jim McDermot, a Dem, went to Iraq shortly before the war and said there are no WMD over her. Oh what a jerk was he!!! Yeah Right!! Bush admin should step down now for the ignormaic mess they ctreated.

- A lot of negative input on President Bush here. I agree the handling of the Iraq war is extremely bad. My personal beliefs are that Pres. Bush fully believes he is doing the right thing. And for all those that say the only reason we are over there is oil...bring it on! I wish we would bring some of it here to lower gas prices even more. And finally, what exactly is the democrats plan on Iraq? Even THEY dont know.
Its a war folks. Its going to be ugly. This is not the type of war that we can go over and bomb the *** out of them and send the ground troops to clean up and go home, this is going to take time. - Reply to this comment
- This whitehouse reports "initial good results." after 100+ gruesome deaths?? I guess great results would be the gruesome death of everyone in Bagdad, including the US soldiers.
Iraq has descended into civil war. There is no longer any question about it. Whether Bush intended this to happen or not when he authorized the invasion is a moot point now. Our soldiers are caught up in the middle of this civil war and they are being killed needlessly. There mission "of supporting and training Iraqi soldiers" is impossible now. Who are they training? Sunnis or ******? Is this in between their killing of each other or while they kill each other.
Bring the US soldiers home, NOW! They are being injured and killed for NOTHING. Iraq has become the modern day "Killing Fields" where no one wins. - Reply to this comment
- Don't you just know that Allah must really be proud of those people. Its a violent religion in a violent part of the world, and the radicals are slowly taking over. Only difference from today and 10,000 years ago is the automatic weapons instead of spears and bows.
