david, waht would have the outcome in Iraq have been if we would have surrendered, cut and run as Harry reid had suggested almopst two years ago? Of course the enemy would have taken over and the risk to America would have been greater. Now that the Iraqis were given a chance to take control and not lose to extremism we have a democracy and an allie in the middle east a very different, positve outcome compared to the outcome the lose at all costs dems would have created, so stuff your false propoghanda and join the world of reality. Why is it sooo important for you Bush haters to acknowledge the truth or any good news? Hateful politics with total disregard for the 12 million Iraqis the voted for FREEDOM!

johnpatrick, I watched and respectfully disagree, in fact Iran was booed. Secondly it sounds like from your perspective you are the one that needs to go anywhere abroad, not only will you betreated great you may regain some sense of reality in regards to America. It is FAR better than any other country I have been. It is always goos to come home to the greatest country on the planet. If America over the 200 plus years of our existance hadn''t been willing to fight evil and support freedom and democracy abroad then we may have not existed. To turn a blind eye to evil is to risk being destroyed by that evil.

Mission Accomplished. We have set the stage for a radical Shiite dominated government in Iraq. Does anyone in their right mind think this was worth 4,ooo soldiers, 25,000 permanently maimed and more than a trillion dollars.

notblue ...I saw the opening and I noticed no difference in the applause from any other nation...People of the World applaud for what we were and not what we are under bush the worthless. Go overseas and see how you are dealt with.. unless you come right out and state you oppose bush then you are embraced...but if you declare your allegiance to bush then you will be shunned.
God bless the American Republic and *** those who would turn it into an oligarchic-militaristic empire.

This is more of the same-an empty suggestion box full of nothing. It no doubt is a plus for republicans who will boast at their convention that they worked to get an end date of sorts for the war. But is there anyone out there still dumb enough to believe another one of their cheat and creep stories? What this does is absolutely nothing, especially with the provision for the Iraqi Government to change the agreement at a drop of a hat.So in reality you have the equivilant of an early day Indian Peace Treaty signed with disappearing ink! If you stop the surge and pull troops you%u2019re going to have the evil element creep back in. Then we will have to send another surge back in to regain control. That has been the repeated scenes we''ve experienced from day 1. The report comes at a time that it is strategically needed to help republican candidates make the claim that the surge worked and the with-draw of troops are now set to begin. What is worse; the liars that came up with this false ray of hope, or the feeling that someone believes that American Voters can still be tricked by deceptions? The information is nothing more than an attempt to hush the talk about withdrawing troops, make voters think the war is coming to an end with a date to begin withdraws. You know, and I know that after the general election if McCain is elected President, all the talk about withdraws dates will be off the table and redeployment plans will have already received a green light.

Looks like W is peaking just before the election:

Russians pulling out
Iraq/US agreement on withdrawal
Stock market improving
Gasoline coming down
GDP higher than we expected (or deserved)

If this was planned, it came out pretty well.

Huh.
I''m seeing this pattern occurring repeatedly: Obama proposes something. Bush says that what Obama proposed is completely wrong, but then turns around and does exactly what Obama proposed.
It is as if Obama is already the president. He should add the last 6 to 9 months to his resume.

misha128 We were once a BELOVED NATION, RESPECTED AND ADMIRED....under these neo-con nitwits we have become a pariah and hated and despised by many people who view us as having betrayed our ideals. Well some of us have and many of us have been fighting for 8 years against the fascist takeover of our American Republic..and come NOVEMBER we will kick out the neo-con traitors and rejoin and regain the respect and yes the love which we lost under bush the worthless. Proudly never voted or supported bush and his minions.

nextgenman -- should we pull all our forces out from all over the world, bring all the state department staff back to the US and forbid foreign travel? Or should we tell all US citizens that foreign travel anywhere is at their own risk - no consulate or diplomatic support? How effective would we be be when it comes to security completely blind to the entire world outside the United States. And how vulnerable would we be to attack or economic disruption with no understanding of the actions anywhere outside the United States? Where would you get your new stuff if Walmart is denied the opportunity to import it from China or elsewhere?
