White House Warns Cutting Aid, Despite Iraq's Anticipated $70B Oil Revenue, Could Prolong War
- Yep, that surge really has worked, hasn''t it?
Iraq should have been able to stand on it''s own long ago. You never hear any talk anymore about all the special training their own police and military are getting to take care of their own country. Seems to me like the Iraqis stuck in the martyrdom mindset. - Reply to this comment
- Screw Bush and what he wants...if Iraq has $70 billion, let them spend it on themselves...this is really a no-brainer.

- "Meanwhile, 7 years of Iraq War have driven us into recession, debt, a severely weakened dollar and a collapsing economy, while we finance Iraq''''''''s reconstruction with China. Nobody voted for this. It was all the idea of Bush/Cheney and the neocons. We went into Iraq because we were told they had WMDs. Of course, they did not. But that somehow doesn''''''''t matter anymore?
It makes me very seriously doubt the mental health of every republican." -- IRLiberal
Ahhh come on now, be a little impartial when slinging the blame here. Its CERTAINLY not only the republicans that have us in this mess...the democrats share the blame as well. Yes Bush/Cheney are the figureheads and primary cheerleaders of these past failed 7 years, but ALL of our legislative and executive branches are to blame. - Reply to this comment
- Okay, sure. Continue to borrow the money to fund this war, then put it on the national debt & eventually, stick the middle class taxpayer with the bill.
On the other hand, it was the US which destroyed all their infrastructure. It''s barbaric to destroy a nation & then make them pay to rebuild everything.
On the other hand, considering that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11, & that they did not (& could not) attack us, we should not have invaded & occupied their country to begin with. Well, all that goes back to those criminals in the White House who lied us into this quagmire. - Reply to this comment
- When will we get out of Iraq, when our economy can no longer afford to pay for the WAR or is a police action now? Bush/Cheny have runied this country finanically by paying for a new government in Iraq which has shakey hold over their own country and could end up in civil war at anytime. The cost of the Iraq war is not even in the federal governments buget which the Bush administration wants to cut social programs to balance. I hope to see Bush/Cheny pay for their mistakes after they are out of office but all wrong doing evidence is probably distroyed. Yea Bush hopes to make a lot of money after he''s no longer president and Cheny has Haliburton to fall back on.

- You know what *really* amazes me is THIS:
Obama''''s pastor says "God da*m America" in a fiery sermon, and that makes people freak out and think OBAMA (someone who goes to that pastor''''s church) shouldn''''t be elected because of it.
John McCain sings "bomb bomb bomb bomb Iran" to the tune of the Beach Boys "Barbara Ann" to the PRESS and people think he''''s a viable **presidential** candidate.

- I think Iraq reconstruction should be financed exclusively from the profit oil companies make.
And I firmly believe that all our license plates should have "Made by Bush/Cheney" stamped on the back. - Reply to this comment
- Well what about us having to pay? How long can our tax money keep going to Iraq?
$47 billion can be spent here to cover road repairs and other much needed services. Give us a break on gas taxes that we pay at the pump everyday.
Iraq is bringing in $70 billion in oil revenue. It''s time they start paying more and the U.S. less. - Reply to this comment
- More than 1000,000 civilians were killed in this meaningless war, and poor Iraq people should pay for this?
Where''s the Human Rights?

- OK, I''ve heard just about enough of this kind of garbage. I could CARE LESS what happens to the Iraqis now.

- It should have been established when we went in the Iraqui''s would pay all costs for ecverything in the war. Then maybe they would get off their ***** and get this thing over with. Why should we pay for their war when they are rich ? Bush really screwed us oon this one. I still think he should be impeached and tried for war crimes.

- AP) White House officials this week privately cautioned lawmakers not to go too far in restricting U.S. aid to Iraq, warning that doing so might only prolong the war, now in its sixth year.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Let''s see: (1) All Iraq funds we spend are borrowed funds and we are nearly bankrupt and are in a recession, (2) we do not spend funds on our own people but on folks that do not like us, (3) Iraq has over $70 billion somewhere outside of the country but no one is saying where, (4) as long as we are willing to pay, Iraq sees no need for them to pay for anything. Let''s hope a new President comes on board soon and that the Democratic Congress enforces common sense. - Reply to this comment
- The final insult to injury. Congress should grow a backbone and authorize not one penny more for this lunacy.

- Hussein was dumping more oil on the market in excess of the amount in the oil for food deal. Oil prices were low, and our economy soared. That all changed when Bush and Cheney got in office. Bush is no better than the terrorists we are supposedly fighting.

- Before the Iraq invasion, the Bush administration said that Iraqi oil would pay for the rebuilding costs. Iraq has the 2nd largest oil reserves on the planet and we are giving them taxpayer money free and clear. Make any sense?
Well, this whole war for oil makes no sense. I don''t think it was worth paying $1 trillion plus thousands of lives so we could have the privilege to pay $120 for a barrel of oil.
Bush can''t secure our own borders. He pays lip service to combating terrorism. It''s all about the oil. In the late 1990s, the oil industry was in a depression with record low oil prices. Oil man Bush comes in and surprise, the oil business is now the healthiest industry on the planet. - Reply to this comment
- We can no longer afford the Iraq adventure; the federal budget deficit is getting worse rather than better. It may be wise for Americans to learn to speak chinese; we owe them an awful lot of money.
