Iraqi Police, Army Members Dismissed After Deserting In Face Of Basra Militias Last Month
- Since then, government officials have revealed that about 1,000 members of the security forces - including an entire infantry battalion - had mutinied, on some cases handing over vehicles and weapons to the militias.

Yet another example of the fallacy behind the administration''s argument for more and more and more.
Iraqis are Kurd, Shia, and Sunni first, Iraqis second. - Reply to this comment
- I was watching a documentary on the Iraqi Conflict with the troops on TV the other day. In the film, the American Troop in charge of an attacked tried to order the Iraqi troop to order his men to go first in the line-of-fire (basically, use the Iraqi soldiers for points: men who go ahead first to take the first hit).
I would have told the American officer to screw himself and tell him "it is your war, you go first AS*S-Hole!" Then I would have smiled for the camera. - Reply to this comment
- marizara: we just don''''t understand the devotion to Islam that people have. Not all very devoted Muslims are terrorists, by a long shot. But Islam is their first identity, not their country. So when some are convinced from birth, like you say, that Americans are the infidel or are trying to force them to deny Islam, then they will fight to the end any way they can.

- dumbshun: I agree with everything in your last post. I think I said the same thing without the yelling.
BTW. are you going to answer me with examples??? - Reply to this comment
- dumbshun: to repeat a popular phrase: you, sir, can''t handle the truth. Sorry, but you have chosen to ignore or deny facts. You can find all this information on your own, if you are as committed as you say, on Government''s own web sites or other sources. People need to find out for themselves, not just parrot what the government wants you to hear or believe.
Again, unfortunately NO oversight. - Reply to this comment
- dumbshun: check your facts please. Any Congressional oversight committee can only 1) act on the information it receives. There have been numerous articles about the abuses within the FBI and Homeland Security. These abuses were caught be investigative reporters or through CI''s, not through any oversight. Initial warrantless acts were secretly authorized by bush, so no oversight. Now all warrantless acts are authorized by a ''secret court'', governments term not mine. Oversight is so non-existent that Congress has issued subpoenas to White House staff and intelligence officers, which have been scoffed at under ''executive privilege'' or ''national security'' (an overused and meaningless term anymore). No fabrications or twisted facts here, its all public record.

- I recommend an article in Newsweek about Somalia. See our legacy in action. We are causing a domino effect in central Asia and Africa. More shame on bush/cheney.

- Let''s put the war profiteers on ''point''. I like that idea.

- mcv: I understand your point, but in fairness to the American soldier, its not his war either...it should be a Halliburton, or Blackwater or Bechtel or members of Congress who are profiting by investing in Pentagon contact businesses and all other war profiteers.

- Why is it that those directing the fighting are doing so from safe ground, in another country? -- They have those poor people so bulldogged they believe everything they''re told. -- One young man, when asked why he was fighting responded ''For The Resistance''. -- When asked who he was resisting, he replied ''Americans''. -- Those people never question their leaders, they are taught that from birth. -- They have no personal responsibility, only orders. -- The only value they have to their leaders is their willingness to obey until death. -- Kinda succs, no?

- irishwench: not to sound like an alarmist, but the way this administration is heading with the erosion of civil rights the "fighting" will be an outside invader....it will be a fight with votes and voices. Get Angry, Get Involved, Stop the madness.

- Irishwench,
I agree with what you quoted and with what you said. I want to add: At this time, Jesus will protect His own! We need to be communing with our Savior each day in prayer. And, we need to be fasting and seeking righteousness.
The Bible contains instructions for use relevant for the coming times. Jeremiah 12-14, Revelation, Ezekiel, etcetera.
Also, who already knows the Lord must prepare: a great harvest for the Kingdom will come. Amid strife, many will turn to Christ in truth while others (false sheep) will turn away.

- McCain is not my choice for President, but he is a more credible witness on ''soft'' torture. (Hanoi Hilton) As of his last voice opinion (he does like to flip/flop) he is vehemently opposed to any torture. Its doesn''t work, you either get unreliable intelligence as andrew 693 stated or you just make the enemy hate stronger and more violent.
Also, have we learned nothing from the past? Know history! We interred Japanese Americans (third and fourth generation citizens) during WWII just because of the way they looked. We didn''t inter German Americans or Italian Americans because they looked like ''us''. Its what the bush/cheney measures work, if your name isn''t ''American'' or you don''t look like ''us'', be afraid, be very afraid. Be careful how easy you are with the denial of your constitutional rights. - Reply to this comment
- Come to think of it, the American Troops did this manuever procedure in the Korean and Vietnam War - all were Southerner foreigners.

- I just love how the left decides they know everything and can speak for everyone, even when they are in a different country.

- vet999999: I am a U.S. Citizen. I live in this country. I don''t know everything or speak for everyone. I do, however, speak with facts to back me up, not just language of insults, fear and hate which is the ammo of the frightened and screeching far right. And I speak for a large majority, just read the polls, the postings on sites like these and the citizen editorials. WE may not agree with you, but we will fight for YOUR guaranteed, Constitutional rights and for the American troops all the same.
