Comments on: Bush Orders Halt In Iraq Withdrawals
President Backs Top General's Recommendations On Troop Levels, Orders Shorter Combat Tours
- Iraq and the sagging economy have taken a heavy toll on Mr. Bush. His job approval rating has fallen to just 28 percent, a new low in the Associated Press-Ipsos poll.

Reminiscent of Nixon, and for the same reason - both are/were patholigical liars. - Reply to this comment
- bobmarisol,,,, Maliki said on Sunday there is no need to halt withdrawals ---- It''s their war, not ours

- Osama Bin Laden. He has made George W. Bush even more of a spineless coward than when Bush first took the presidency, and within months cowered from the Red Chinese when they took one of our Lockheed Orion aircraft and crew captive. (American voters never learned about the real George Bush, just some convenient construct.) It should have been Bush''s life mission, to hunt down Bin Laden and bring him to trial or have him killed. My question to McCain and Obama: which one of you will tend to this mission and avenge the killing of 3,000 Americans? I fear it will not be McCain ... I see him as a defender of the status quo. Letting Bin Laden continue to walk the earth and enjoy life.

- bobmarisol,,,, That''s not half the story, your verion is more Alice in Wonderland than anything, Listening to Petreaus now on CSPAN he''s countering what he said about the Iraq forces capababilities in the Basra action.
The "Surge" was more of a transition from the "Top Down" strategy in which Maliki still has less authority than Sadar to the "Bottom Up" strategy.
There are new insurgent groups from the Turkmen & Sufi''s who''s supporters number around 3 million each & Sunni''s in Anbar are compeating for power among themselves ---- None have the same agenda we do.
The Bottom Up strategy is stalled at the local militia level, & there are several independent militia''s supported by not only Iran, but by the UAE & Sudan - Reply to this comment
- It''s funny how the neocon''s LOVED the media when thing''s were just starting over there and now it''s the LIBERAL MEDIA! Make up your mind.

- The intent of the surge was to allow the Iraqi government to have the breathing room to start governing, that has not happened. Call it failure or call it victory, but the intent of the surge has not been accomplished.

Taddles-
You sure sound excited to call our troops ''failures.'' But I cant blame you, because your liberal media has brainwashed you into hating anything that may reflect positively on President Bush - and since the military agrees with Bush''''s war strategy and disagrees with the liberal Democrats, of course the media wants you to believe the troops have failed.
But as General Petreaus has repeatedly informed our liberal Democrats in Congress, violence has dropped at least 60% since the surge began. Also, tribal leaders that used to fight alongside Al Queda have now turned against Al Queda.
Plus, a major oil revenue-sharing law was passed in which the Shiites and Sunnis will both be entitled to a fair share of Iraq''s oil profits. Passing this law was the most important political goal of the troop surge, and it has been accomplished.
Since the troop surge has made Iraq a safer and more stable nation, and since political progress is being made, there is no excuse for the liberal Democrat''s refusal to acknowledge the successes and hard-fought victories that our troops have accomplished. - Reply to this comment
