Even though you did not serve in the military or actually fight in combat i respect what you did as well. I do think that all veterans from desert storm or those serving in Iraq have seen their share of actual combat. My daughter is am MP there They nprovide escort duty and man checkpoints, and clear the roads of IED''S. She has seen combat but has only toldme she has been shot at. I don''t know if she has had to kill anyone or not. For her sake i hope she makes it home without killing anyone. I was trained to kill and yet it took me years to adjust after i came home. - Reply to this comment

- "What was your unique experience with war ?"
Posted by ranger1948
I witnessed, on several occasions the aftermaths of battles in Aceh, Indonesia, assisted in efforts to help the victims, helped rebuild schools, repair roads, and installing computers for the local city governments. I also organized concerts to raise funds and supplies, like blankets and water, dried noodles and rice, often delivering them in person.
My experience is unique because I was allowed to go there freely, even though all other Americans, including diplomats, had to get special permission to go. It is also unique because I am not military.
I know the smell of death, I know the sound of it, the sight of it, the sorrow of it, probably more so than many Desert Storm, or recent Iraq war vets. - Reply to this comment
- I also think Bush should have beeen impeached a long time ago and charged with war crimes. Then at least we could see if Cheney still says "SO".

- the trials of Nuremburg will be a mute issue as we will not be defeated in Iraq. It will be like Vietnam, we will eventually realize our only course of action is to bring our troops home.

I agree going into Iraq was a mistake and i think most Americans feel that way, but because of Bushs arrogance many people are forced to take jobs they normally wouldn''t consider taking to provide for their families.Until we can get rid of Bush and get a leader who is willing to lad us the way the American people want to be led, i don''t think our dreams will come true. I also do not see from the choices we have that we will get a leader in the new election who will leqad the American people back to the way of life we dream of. - Reply to this comment

Here we agree. I would add however, that since we know this, we also know there is no point in continuing our presence there, the lives lost are wasted, the only beneficiaries are the war profiteers.
And yes, they are only following orders, but that raises two points, first, "just following orders" has been established at Nuremberg to be insufficient excuse, and second, if a hostile force was in your town shooting up the place, would you say "excuse that soldiers killing our families, they are just following orders?
It is time to leave, lock, stock, and barrel, now, not a year from now, or a hundred. Military and civilian alike, it is time to get out of there, admit our mistake, and concentrate on repairing what is wrong in America, and let the Iraqis concentrate on their own country. - Reply to this comment

Not everyone has been fortunate enough to maintain gainful employment in the U.S during these economic times. Maybe these men were not as fortunate as you and took the jobs so that they would be gainfully employd Americans, not sitting back drawing unemployment or aid from the govt to live on. - Reply to this comment

I think it has been proven the bodybag count does not convince our gocvt that it has made a wrong decision. I think all wars are political and done for economic greed by the few who control this country. I believe what ended the Vietnam war was when we brought it home in living color on television for the Americampeople to see. They liked a good economy, but they didn''t like having their noses rubbed in the fact of what it was costing us. What was your unique experience with war ? - Reply to this comment

Absolutely not. I am also, besides a music producer, an IT consultant, and I have always found ways to make a living anywhere, I do not have, or wish to go to a combat zone, especially to work for the outsiders. - Reply to this comment

Now you say our soldiers are raping Iraq. I take offense when anyone disrespects our military. They are soldiers who follow orders. They do not get to choose where they will serve. They are the finest soldiers in the world. They are trying to set up a free govt for the Iraqui p[eople to govern themselves. I do not believe they will ever succeed as the Iraqui''s have been fighting for centuries and will continuwe to do so long after we leave. - Reply to this comment

I have a unique experience with war, having seen firsthand many of the atrocities in Aceh, Indonesia, during their separatist struggle, which was then ironically cut short by the tsunami.
I have seen the results not only of man''s inhumanity, but also nature''s. I also wouldn''t wish it on anyone, and therefore my vehement condemnation of Bush, who created the circumstance about which we now debate, and for nothing more than profit, and I condemn the war profiteers, who send civilians into a combat zone, again for profit. If they are allowed to profit without consequence, then we are condemned to eternal war.
I thank you for your willingness to serve in Vietnam, but has it ever occurred to you that if it hadn''t been for the sheer number of body bags coming home from a pointless exercise, (as admitted by McNamara, the wars'' staunchest hawk) popular opinion might never have focused sharply enough to end it, and we might still be over there killing innocent people?
Does it take only excessive body bags before America understands that we are in the wrong on this? - Reply to this comment

So with the economy in the state it is in, say these men had lost their jobs, have families, mortgages to pay and no job available to them, they get offered a position in Iraq and take it. You wouldn''t take the job if you wer in the same situation ? - Reply to this comment
- So now you admit they were both working civilian jobs that had nothing to do with combat. I thik it is saf to assume they were working to provide a better life for their families in the states. But because you are against Bush and the war you think it is justified that they were murdered ? I am against bush and the war in Iraq, but i do not justify murder anywhere at anytime. As an A merican we are supposed to be civilized. Committing murder is not a civilized act.

Justified? No. Understand? Yes. They shouldn''t have even been there. It might be asked why there are no opportunities for them to make a better life for their families in a country that our military is not currently raping.
If it is because the pay is so much higher, then who is to blame for their chasing a dollar into a hornet''s nest?
Especially a hornet''s nest that Bush stirred up... - Reply to this comment

You say you take the side of life yet you say their murders were justified. I fought in Vietnam. I didn''t kill civilians there, only those involved in combat. Yes they took a risk being in a war zone to work to make big money. Did you ever serve in the military or combat ? Have you seen the horrors of war ? I wouldn''t wish that on anyone. - Reply to this comment
- In short, every death, both US and Iraqi, that resulted from Bush''''s lies are crimes against humanity.
