zoopster1 certainly is.

He"s sitting there with his bag of popcorn and his Dr. Pepper, watching the war on TV.

Killed in battle, I meant.

"All those wars had fewer Americans killed in battle than this idiotic quagmire in Iraq."

A lot of men died of tropical diseases during the Spanish-American War.

"Compared to the casualties we have taken in the past (over 1 million in the Civil War, nearly 200,000 in WWI, 600,000 in WWII, 33,000 in Korea, 58,000 in Vietnam), we"re getting off easy now."

We didn"t sufffer a million killed in the Civil War. ("Casualties" includes sprained ankles.)

You conveniently forgot to mention a few.

First Desert Storm.

Overthrow of Noriega in Panama.

Overthrow of Milosevic in Yugoslavia.

Spanish-American War.

Mexican-American War.

War of 1812.

All those wars had fewer Americans killed than this idiotic quagmire in Iraq.

bobnjersy, you are correct. In the large picture, it was all about oil, and getting US/British Companies
(DutchRoyalShell, Exxon, Chevron, et al) access to the oil fields. What the war did was provide these
companies with military personell to guard the fields.
In 2007, the newly formed Minsitry in the Iraq gov''t.
http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/middle-east/blood-and-oil-how-the-west-will-profit-from-iraqs-most-precious-commodity-431119.html
was pressured into entering into a 30 year profit sharing agreement with these major oil producers, in spite of the fact that in 2006 Bush proclaimed that Iraqi oil belonged to its people. But perhaps, in
pursuit of cheap oil, the cost of 4000 young lives
is really a bargain.

And, yet Petraeus would have us believe it is just a walk in the park. Between his lies about the escalation of the war and John McSenile, who tells us Baghdad is like downtown Tucson, one has to find reality somewhere else.

[When is the last time you seen anyone one from The Saudi or Pakistan govt claiming Jihad on America. The 19 from Saudia Arabia were from Al quida who is at war with the Sauidi govt.]
[Posted by getrealnow2 at 01:09 PM : Mar 11, 2008]

oh ... so your analogy only applies to the leaders. so if the leaders of the bloods and crips are at home watching american idol ... and the minions are out breaking into houses and kiling families ... then nothing should be done ... we can ignore that?

so terrorism is only a governmental thing ... i didn''t know that ... excuse me for being so ignorant.

[It would be like if some blood broke in your house and killed your family and the cops went after only the bloods and left the crips alone.]
[Posted by getrealnow2 at 12:55 PM : Mar 11, 2008]

great analogy ... now that i see it this way ... i''m all for the war.

what about the saudis (most of 19 on 9/11 were saudis)? what about the north koreans? what about the pakistani''s (exporting nuke tech freely).

so ... when are we invading? can we allow the crips to run free?

[The seeds of the invasion of Iraq were not sown in the catastrophe of 9-11. They were planted when Cheney met in secret with the heads of oil companies in the spring of 2001.]
[Posted by North1949 at 12:30 PM : Mar 11, 2008]

the maps (where all the oil is) were clearly defined in the spring ... but the seeds preceeded this timeframe by just a bit.
