Re: "A former city official was stabbed to death along with his wife and daughter in their home in a predominantly Shiite neighborhood in northeastern Baghdad, officials said Sunday."

Sounds like another Blackwater attack. It has all the hallmarks.

Re: "The operations against al Qaeda in Mosul will start soon," al-Askari said, adding that the operation would include armored vehicles, tanks and helicopters."

Just a few moths ago, our military masterminds were claiming to have defeated "al-Qaeda-in-Iraq", and now, suddenly, they will need tanks and helicopters to battle this imaginary foe, and are stupid enough to once again announce plans for an offensive against them, ahead of time.

Sounds pretty desperate and hard to believe.

The Iraq invasion has long be unsuccessful and is LOST. No amount of posturing and semantics can change the fact. Thousands have died for Bush and his corporate sponsors. The only tragedy is the American people is either too stupid to realize that they have been fooled or extremely gullible to think it is all for sake of national security. I would think the former would best describe the American people.

Can someone tell me how many of the "bench marks" the government of Iraq has met. That was supposed to be the reason for the surge wasn''t it? We need to get this thing either settled or somehow shifted to the UN and get back to the task of finding and bringing to justice those who attacked our nation.

I''m sure this is just an isolated incident--after all--didn''t the surge work?
Surely this happened because of a few "stragglers".

The Bush terrorists have convinced me we killed them all!

And I still believe in Santa Clause and the Easter Bunny!

The Bush "tribe" has no saving grace and America NEEDS to see them held accountable!

Violence in Iraq has decreased to levels of 2004 or 2005. Although it is certainly better than the off the chart violence of 2006 and 2007, it is still a sign that Iraq is a very dangerous place.

People who claim the surge is working or that the surge means winning just don''t know ANYTHING about the truth concerning Iraq. They like to criticize and say that it is sour grapes because we all predicted its failure.

Guess what?? The drop in violence IS NOT, get that, IS NOT a victory or winning or anything else except a step in a long road towards stabilizing Iraq. Victory in Iraq can only come from the Iraqi parliment working together and to quote "Iraqi government has failed to take advantage of the lull in violence to make political progress".

Political progress is the only progress that is important. What are we suppose to do?? Continue to police Iraq with evermore failing troops while they dicker and boycott??

It has been more than 2 years and all they have managed to do is pass a law authorizing Baathist rehiring. Hell that has been going for a year!!

I can guarentee that oil sharing and even passing a budget is beyond them.

Invading Iraq was a mistake that continues to drain away resources like a mortal wound to the body. They are transfusing the blood like crazy, but it is still draining away. As long as the US continues its presences in Iraq, the drain will never be stopped.

Is this not a great war? Everyone says so, and the surge , what an opportunity for the military, and just think of how much money the conservative evangelical businessmen are making ,why its a boon to our economy, thats why everything is so great right now,

Thank you Presdent Bush, and your christian friends, for saving us from the terroist bad guys

"The U.S. government expects to admit up to 12,000 Iraqi refugees by next October."

Make sure these new U.S. Citizens from Iraq are given the proper ID and documents when they arrive. A good first job in the U.S. for them would be working in V.A. Hospitals and Medical Centers assisting wounded and disabled Veterans or maybe doing some volunteer work if they specialize in other skills and that type of employment is not suited to them. After 5 years into this War, no more U.S. TROOPS should be dying in Iraq at this point, it looks like the violence is starting to creep back up again.
