j-whitman - yeah - Love Story - a total flop. Oscar winner, and nomined for 7 total, 13 other awards.

But, some movies just never make it...

SharnCedar - you are amazing.

There exist four proper different spellings of al Qaeda (al-Qaida, al-Qa''ida, el-Qaida, or al Qaeda), according to wikipedia, and not one of your three different spelings in the four uses of what I can only presume was "al Qaeda" hit the mark.

If you think 100 lbs of high explosive per person is amazing, you should check out what it cost us to kill on VC (on average) in Vietnam. Suffice it to say, we could have BOUGHT them cheaper than if we had gone over in the first place.

But, wars are not rational. The sooner you understand that concept, the sooner you can wrap your head around the comment John F Kennedy expressed so many years ago:

Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty.

I''''d like to hear from a soldier who''''s been there to give a perspective on today''''s bombing.-IdlePugilist

You should enlist or something to experience it first hand. Stories don''t do it justice

Good to know they were bombing al qaueda, and not just intimidating Sunni civilians ... must have been a lot of "al queada" on those farms to justify 40,000 pounds of explosives ... heck since there were only ever about 400 members in "al queada" even in its heyday, i guess that''s 100 pounds og explosives per "double-secret terrorist". Hope it killed them - or are they like the Terminator, just keep coming even with a 100 pounds of explosives ripping them apart. They are amazing, aren''t they. And so is that US military, and that surge. Good to know that we''ve won the hearts and minds of the Sunnis now, we don''t even need to bomb their farms to frighten and intimidate them. We don''t. Really. it was evil, magic, flying "al queda" people who materialize out of thin air, just in from Afganistan. They are like the X-men, I guess.

"speakinup,,,, Actually we are both wrong,, it was "Thirty-eight bombs were dropped within the first 10 minutes, with a total tonnage of 40,000 pounds," the statement said. Posted by j-whitman

D''oh! Yeah - I read that too, after I commented. Dang, reading retention is going ta hell.

Let''s see how many of what kind of bombs would that be ? Used to know how to do the Algebra for that sort of thing. (assuming only 500 lb and 2000 lb bombs, as they are the only ones thay make JDAMs for right now.

member how to do this ?

Show me up j-whitman.

"speakinup,,, It would be in my neighborhood - 1 40K bomb makes a hell of an explosion. Posted by j-whitman

"MASSIVE" would be along the lines of several B52s worth, at least.

Any sort of bomb going off will seem like "one hell of an explosion", j-whitman. Especially if it were in your Sacramento neighborhood.

But as "airstrikes" go, that would be puny.

"Massive US Airstrike"

40,000 lbs/ 2,000 lbs = 20 bombs.

I''m NOT sure I''d call this "Massive" as Airstrikes go.

Minus an outcry from the Iragi witnesses
left alive at the edge of the kill radius
of these bomb''s it''s probably that this
is all hype aimed at shoving the nine
deaths into the background.

"You''ve taken all the guess work out of it girl. j-whitman -

Then state your opinion boldly, squid. No one cares anyway. Don''t be a worm, be a human being. THINK for once, don''t just spew out BULLSH|T.

Is that possible ?

I see the arm-chair hawks were released for the evening, rather than conjugal visits they preen in a blog hoping someone recognizes their testosterone level is artificially elevated. You know these types by how frequently they talk about others with clever phrases like "what a *** you are","squid" and "idiot", and joke about flamethrowers. I''d like to hear from a soldier who''s been there to give a perspective on today''s bombing.
