- j-whitman, Iraq is not in sustained chaos. It''s time for you to get out of your cave. In fact your beloved CBS this morning stated "the progress is undeniable and refugees are returning by the thousands every day". I know it''s hard for you to accept but do the best you can with it.

- notblue,,,,, Guess what ?? Iraq is in a state of sustained chaos ------- Bush has even lied about the displaced Iraqi''s returning & everything else

- micma, your hope Iraq will fall into chaos is typical of those who prefer failure over success. The possible success that''s happening now in Iraq would make your ongoing rants and talking points irrellivant. This is the same fear the Democrats are dealing with right now. If only the Democrats had there way six months ago failure in iraq would have been guaranteed, but alas the plan is working now and they are looking increasingly wrong in there previous assessment that Iraq is "lost" or a "total failure". It''s simply not the case anymore. The longer you anti''s spew your anti-American rhetoric the worse you will look as time goes by.

Get it through your head! They WANT to devide thier country up! We need to get the hell out of the way and let them get about doing it, instead of leaving our troops there getting killed trying to stop it. - Reply to this comment
- fredgrad2000,,, I agree we cannot force Iraqi''s to divide their country ------ Yet that is exactly what the "Surge" has done..
.. It is also exactly what Bush is doing by arming & empowering over 70,000 Sunni''s who all say they will put an end to their centralized government.
.. Bush agains lowers the goal post in Iraq. What happened to "Tear Down The Wall" ??? - Reply to this comment
...the military side and plan implemented by General Petraeus has worked just as intended. The surge has indeed worked, even better than expected, in its goals; unfortunately, the Iraqi central government hasn''''t done its part.

Glad you mentioned Potreaus. He is famously quoted as saying that there is no military solution to the civil war in Iraq. There must be political reconciliation to end the violence and stabalize the country. That''s simply not happening. In fact we are more interested in political reconciliation than the Iraqis are.- Reply to this comment
- Joe Biden is right. Divide it up into 3 semi-autonomous states with a loose central government. Then get our troops out and wait for the rest of the civil war to start again. This whole thing has been a clusterfu*ck ever since that phony cowboy Bush started it! No big suprise though really. - Sgt RDS
Get it through your heads people, we cannot FORCE the Iraqis to divide their country into three; you same people that are screaming for that are the same ones who rail about an "illegal occupation" (which of course your beloved UN has sanctioned and which the Iraqis keep requesting us to renew). You don''t want us "occupying" Iraq, but you want us to force a soverign government to break-up its country into 3? Make up your minds... - Reply to this comment
- The republican lunatic in charge claims that the surge has worked because violence is down, but the whole selling point of the surge was to give the Iraqi government a chance to reconcile and that''''s not going to happen period. Unless of course the idiots in the White House are now defining success as a pro-Iranian Shiite government that hates the US? In that case mission accomplished!

You might want to read the news on the fact that the Iraqi government has (al-Maliki presented today) a long-term plan and bi-lateral treaty (similar to South Korea) that is to be finalized by July 2008 that will hardly be seen as pro-Iranian and will leave us with a substantial force to counter Iran or Syrian mis-adventures. As as for the surge; certain laws have not been passed; but the surge did succeed!! The Iraqi government failed in meeting legislative benchmarks, but the surge has significantly weakened AQI, brought down sectarian violence by 2/3rds, and sent the Mahdi Army into hiding. So while the Iraqi government hasn''t met its benchmarks, the surge itself, the military side and plan implemented by General Petraeus has worked just as intended. The surge has indeed worked, even better than expected, in its goals; unfortunately, the Iraqi central government hasn''t done its part. - Reply to this comment
