Get it through your head! They WANT to devide thier country up! We need to get the hell out of the way and let them get about doing it, instead of leaving our troops there getting killed trying to stop it.

Glad you mentioned Potreaus. He is famously quoted as saying that there is no military solution to the civil war in Iraq. There must be political reconciliation to end the violence and stabalize the country. That''s simply not happening. In fact we are more interested in political reconciliation than the Iraqis are.

You might want to read the news on the fact that the Iraqi government has (al-Maliki presented today) a long-term plan and bi-lateral treaty (similar to South Korea) that is to be finalized by July 2008 that will hardly be seen as pro-Iranian and will leave us with a substantial force to counter Iran or Syrian mis-adventures. As as for the surge; certain laws have not been passed; but the surge did succeed!! The Iraqi government failed in meeting legislative benchmarks, but the surge has significantly weakened AQI, brought down sectarian violence by 2/3rds, and sent the Mahdi Army into hiding. So while the Iraqi government hasn''t met its benchmarks, the surge itself, the military side and plan implemented by General Petraeus has worked just as intended. The surge has indeed worked, even better than expected, in its goals; unfortunately, the Iraqi central government hasn''t done its part.

Simply read the article above. When the unsustainable surge ends, what will happen? How many years, lives, and how much money will we waste in Iraq before you admit to the obvious reality that the whole thing is a huge blunder? Where is the political reconciliation that was the goal of the surge?

realpatriot, it''s not my fault you refuse to take off the political blinders. On the one hand you preach the complexities of stabalization then on the other when it progress begins to happen you fly off on your typical Bush bashing America hating rant. If reconciliation includes bringing some Bathists back into the Government then so be it. Anything to reduse violence and increase stability is GOOD. Even Harry Smith, the CBS anchor for the morning show stated progress is undeniable and Iraqi refugees are coming back, thousands every day. This is what success is, you don''t like it because it wasn''t due to surrender and abandonment which was the Democrats plan.
