So now they''re saying that there could be a slight troop withdrawal next year. What it doesn''t say is that the only reason that the areas our troops moved into are ''safe'' is because the troops are there. Are they going to stay there indefinitely? What will happen as soon as they turn over those areas to the Iraqis, whom pretty much everyone seems to think is incapable of handling the job. What happens when the US pulls its troops out of the Sunni areas? The majority Shiites will move in, there will be more fighting, and all those troops we''ve lost protecting those areas will have died in vain.

jn122736,,,, ENLIST & Serve --- Our Army & Marine Corps has plenty of room for more, or they wouldn''''t be handing out sign up bonuses.

What makes you think I haven%u2019t served?

It is a moot point at best.

When jumping to conclusions based on emotion or lack of info one all too often lands on their, whatever.

drummer94,,,, Unfortunatly for whatever reason, there is a big desire for political correctness in the officer ranks.
... Bush has demonstrated time & time again -- If you want to keep your career, support his failing policies

If you look back IOWEIGN you will notice I asked tankersmash what his mos was. He didn''t come back with "what months are you talking about?" It''s not definitive but it is telling.

Being an officer in the military active, or past, does not make one better, smarter, or braver than those of lesser rank nor those who have not served.

There are currently over 300 million citizens in America. There would hardly be room for all of them in the military even if they volunteered.

Stating his/her own opinions as indisputable facts, referring to other posters/people as ignorant, using %u201Cliberal%u201D like a dirty word, and referring to fellow soldiers as idiots, are beneath any honorable person.

Each of us should first, and foremost, consider ourselves to be American citizens before officers, vets, republican, democrat, Christian, atheist, agnostics, or whatever.

two questions:
Do officers routinely use the attitude tankersmash displayed here to beat/intimidate subordinates into submission?

If the president does not need congressional approval to send troops into armed conflict, why was it necessary for Bush to use lies and/or twisted Intel to persuade congress to give him PERMISSION to invade Iraq in the first place?

I have my doubts about "tankersmash" being in the military too. He hasn''t figured out that "liberals" are covering his back a lot more than conservatives.

I''m guessing these particular men who died aren''t currently "kicking ***" in Iraq.

tankersmash... I''m a 18 year old good looking girl with no boy friend. Do you believe me?

NO, well I''m really in my 60''s male and fat. Do you get my point?

No one person can do anything about the Iraq war. I have seen what a whole generation can do. No draft, no one cares.

The first few comments by tankersmash, that I read, gave me hope that here was a person I could respect, a person who spoke his/her mind frankly and with dignity and respect for others.

Sadly, here, as always, words and actions speak all too clearly to personal character and integrity. Having pride in one%u2019s self is admirable. Placing one%u2019s self too high on a pedestal is self-degrading.

Bush says reconstruction is successful ??? When one of our officers say there is only 2 hours of electricity he''s immediatly jumped on by a General, just like North Korean mentors who refuse to allow any truth to come out of North Korea.

Unfortunately all y''all back here in the states hear about is the bad stuff....Posted by tankersmash at 10:54 AM : Sep 07, 2007

That''s not true. Often enough this news service and the others publish stories such as yours where soldiers did personal things to help children and such. However, since you seem to know, are the people in Iraq getting fresh water all day long, every day of the week? Last I heard, which was a day ago, that the water was a serious health risk to all. What about electricity? Is it available to all? What about reports that people are fleeing the country daily, somewhat like 65,000 a day? Is that still happening?

Wait a minute! The Sunnis are supposedly working with us in Anbar province, so they couldn''t have killed those Marines, right? And, we have Al-Qaeda supposedly on the run in Anbar according to the Bushies. So, they couldn''t have done this either (of course not, they''re on the friggin run; no time to set roadside bombs when you''re running).
It''s official. Bigfoot is now killing our men in Anbar.

I was a fanatic...I know their thinking, says former radical Islamist
By blaming the Government for our actions, those who pushed this "Blair''s bombs" line did our propaganda work for us.
More important, they also helped to draw away any critical examination from the real engine of our violence: Islamic theology.

Our Prophet commanded us to fight the kaafirs when we are able and to attack them in their homelands and to give them three choices before we enter their lands: either they become Muslim and be like us, sharing our rights and duties; or they pay the jizyah (poll tax) and feel themselves subdued; or they fight, in which case their wealth, women, children and homes become permissible as booty for the Muslims.

I didn''t mean follow you. I meant did you follow the story.......... However it would be wise for some officers to follow the nco''s. Just because you are wearing bars, eagles or stars doesn''t necessarily make you a better G.I.

"We are, in short, a long way from the goal line, but we do have the ball and we are driving down the field," said Petraeus, who will next week report to Congress on progress in Iraq.

WHY is it that our so-called political and military leaders are such freaking tools?? Now Petraeus is talking like a kid inhigh school ... people are being blown to bits and pieces, iraq is a freaking mess and look at lack of maturity, honesty and morals we have running the ''show''.
