just like earlier this week when al qeada attacked a bunch of harmless kurds, that had nothing to do with us forces or the iraqi govt.

While it was wrong to fire upon a mosque, it was cowardly to fire from a mosque. Also to the one who said our troops waited until prayer time at the mosque, I believe the aritcle stated the troops were fired upon at that time. If I am fired on and it is our objective to keep peace, then a raid on where the gunshots were coming from is appropriate. The soldiers gave warning and allowed the worshippers to leave. The militatns could have left to, they chose not to thinking the mosque would protect them. They were wrong.

Space_Poet - I would disagree. If you leave the terrorist alone while in a mosque, then you will encourage their use by terrorists. Everyone of them will become a safe haven.

The way to properly handle this is to have un-uniformed locals armed and in the mosque whenever US troops are going to be in the area. Then as non-locals enter (ie those that are not usually using the mosque), have them searched. Anyone with a weapon is turned over.

Any neigborhood not supporting this plan does so at their own risk. By using this tactic, and using care to explain to the locals that the insurgets are the ones taking the battle to the mosque will help with relations instead of destroy them.

Notice that the raid came at a time you could expect worshippers to be at the mosque--the time when there would likely be the most casualties.

As someone who was born and raised amoung them, I have to admit you are right. They are so easy to figure out that it''s impossible to fight anyone anywhere with them in charge. You can sit down and plan moves KNOWING before you make them what these poor simple minded fools will do. That is what has happened here and we have to break out of this cycle or die, it''s that simple.
