Switching Sides: Inside The Enemy Camp

But then in 2000, well before his arrest, something happened which would make Abas question everything he believed in: a fatwa, a religious edict, was issued by Osama bin Laden.

"It should be understood that killing Americans and Jews anywhere found are the highest act of worship and the highest form of good deeds in the eyes of Allah," Simon quotes bin Laden.

Abas and his fellow commanders were ordered to read the fatwa to their men and make sure they carried it out. The others obeyed, but Abas refused. It was his moment of truth. He firmly believed that jihad was to be fought only on the battlefield in defense of Islam; he had always been taught that the killing of civilians had nothing to do with holy war and that it was forbidden.

The fatwa justified killing non-Muslim civilians everywhere.

dogband,
I support my troops in Iraq.

The Iraq contingency was needed long before 9/11/01, it was needed in '90 when Hussein invaded Kuwait. And before that when he was gassing his own people (Oh, I forgot, he had no WMDs). And everytime after when he refused to allow the inspectors in. We waited too long listening to the pacifist "if I close my eyes they'll go away" liberals who resisted this necessary action. In so much that it imboldened Al Qaeda to load up their planes and ram them into properties here on American soil. No, maybe Iraq didn't have direct affiliation with al Qaeda, but the influence was sure enough there.

So, Al Qaeda knows we are liberal enough to allow 2nd, 3rd, multiple chances. In these liberties we afford those who assail us, they see weakness and weakness it is if we allow it to continue.

Well, this liberal congress we sit under doesn't seem to realize this and they constantly vie for their little lobbyists' attention and "which way will I vote to better serve your generosity". They keep putting off their true responsibilities TO THIS COUNTRY and look to pad their wallets just a bit thicker. Meanwhile telling the public what the media prompts them to believe the public wants to hear. Incidentally, the media is based on Entertainment and has not business with meddling in government.

WMDs? Ironic how North Korea came up with nukes about the same time frame we couldn't find any in Iraq...

Deaths, followed by more deaths, followed by continuing deaths until we get the HELL OUT OF HERE.

And we all know that will not happen until the war machine puppet BUSH is removed from office.

Absolutely unbelieveable. Just when its all to hell, it gets worse, and morons continue to support his joke of a president. Anyone who supports Bush and his policies is just plain and simply stupid or completely brainwashed by the 9-11 fear tactic.

IMPEACH THIS WORST PRESIDENT IN OUR HISTORY NOW.

Right! Make EVERYONE suffer because the Republican's don't have the courage to admit they screwed up! That's not a plan, it's stupidity!!

What do you mean, "make everyone suffer"?

Democrats were elected to get our troops out of Iraq. They do not have enough votes to pass legislation to do so. That leaves them one option.

The only thing the GOP needs to do to avoid "making everyone suffer" is to come to the table and agree to limit the president's authority and agree to a plan for US forces to be removed from Iraq.

Until such time, why shouldn't "everyone suffer"?

Far better for fat, lazy, self-absorbed Americans to suffer than for any more US soldiers to needlessly die in a war these same fat, lazy, self-absorbed Americans overwhelming supported five years ago.

It is obvious the incompetence that has been in the White House for six years. Every American resents being part of what has happened to our nation in these last six years. Our nation has definitely been humbled and that is hurtful for every American to bear. On top of that, one of the most resentful things that President Bush has done is accuse the Americans who disagree with him as being "unpatriotic, unAmerican, uncaring, unGodly, stupid, not knowing the facts" and other unflattering terms. Americans resent being talked to by a mediocre intelligence as though they are not bright enough to understand; they resent being asked to believe something that is obviously not true. They resent being asked to have patience with a spoiled child who is intent on having it his way.

perception5,

Well, if the Washington Post says so, it must be true. Pay no attention to what approximately a dozen CIA officals have testifed to under oath and under penalties of perjury.

Unlike you I check more than one source of information in forming an opinion. When you find the truth to be uncomfortable you call it propaganda.

Why don't you put that reporter under oath like the CIA agents? Didn't your mother ever tell you to not believe everything you read?

Now back to the subject at hand. How is the liberal propaganda machine distorting the fact that the Iraqis can't meet any of the benchmarks that Bush set for them?

Yes I would like to know what Berger was pilfering and I'm dissappointed that the Bush Justice Department and the Republican-controlled Congress couldn't build a strong case.

Sorry, but unlike you I don't march lockstep to my party's call.

..... Wow! an answer and of course we are blaming Bush for Sandy's crime aren't we.

FYI realpatriotliberal1, the Democrats have control of Congress and to date they haven't had any issue calling up Republicans for "political lynchings".

What stopping your corrupt pals in Congress from calling up Sandy Berger? Do you have a good liberal excuse for that also? please advise other Americans would love to know.
