Federal Probe Concludes $19B Wasted On Training Iraqi Troops
- I finally had an opportunity to note a CBS report on Iraq, with nary a reference to the fabled 'al-Qaeda-in-Iraq' group, when they suddenly rework and retitle the article, and add this:
"The U.S. military announced Wednesday that coalition forces killed a senior al-Qaida leader and his courier, both Turks, in an operation in northern Iraq. Mehmet Yilmaz, also known as Khalid al-Turki, operated a cell that facilitated the movement of foreign fighters into Iraq for al-Qaida operations"
Another unauthored, unsupported propaganda claim about a ficticious group, allegedly made by some unknown official in 'U.S. Central Command'.
This was a disappointing choice made by CBS editorial staff. Poor job. - Reply to this comment
- "their main point has not: the security of Baghdad's neighborhoods shouldn't be the priority for U.S. forces %u2014 training Iraqi troops should be."
It's past time for the Iraqi military to step up and secure their country, we have done all we can to help them. Also, the Iraq government either needs to make the hard decision that they need to make or disband and split into three separate countries. - Reply to this comment
- Less than a year after the invasion of Iraq, defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said in an interview: "Today, in February of 2004, there are over 210,000 Iraqis serving in the security forces."
At that rate the number should be over 750,000 by now.
That was over three years ago and according to this article there are 346,500 Iraqi military and police personnel today.
Could it be that half the recruits our military trained deserted and joined the insurgents and/or terrorists?
What a Great strategy. When the enemy has no army, we train one for them one?
And Hamilton wants us to work harder at it. Wow - Reply to this comment

- Sorry to be so negative, but...
The republicans were 100% to the end, behind bush not so long ago. Remember Stay the Course?
How about this term...Flip-flopper.
NO republican is allowed to change course. Period. Any flip-flop is regarded as inept and incompetent at the least, and probably criminal collusion. Flip-flopping by a neo-con on this war is not accepted, however, all their resignations would be accepted. No mulligans now boys! Too late. We tried to tell you. Criminals. Foleys. - Reply to this comment

- Well, I guess better late than never.
Although 3500 dead soldiers is a bit late, but if it didn't hurt your conscience then, it probably won't now. - Reply to this comment
- Does it take so long to realize and to come to terms that the invasion of Iraq and the surge that follows is a lost cause? Bush was a loser from day one. The only problem is that the American voting public was just too stupid to identify the fool. If, according to the polls 32% still supports him, then you have 1 in 3 Americans is a fool!
