The day may dawn when fair play, love for one's fellow men, respect for justice and freedom, will enable tormented generations to march forth triumphant from the hideous epoch in which we have to dwell. Meanwhile, never flinch, never weary, never despair. Winston Churchill From the ending of Churchill's last major speech in the House of Commons on (1 March 1955)

Never, never, never believe any war will be smooth and easy, or that anyone who embarks on the strange voyage can measure the tides and hurricanes he will encounter. The statesman who yields to war fever must realise that once the signal is given, he is no longer the master of policy but the slave of unforeseeable and uncontrollable events. Winston Churchill

One ought never to turn one's back on a threatened danger and try to run away from it. If you do that, you will double the danger. But if you meet it promptly and without flinching, you will reduce the danger by half. Winston Churchill

Edmund Burke: All that is necessary for evil to succeed is that good men do nothing.

What do you get paid to do...call people trolls, reload the bong or both?

Nice try PAID troll. Now here is that little problem you seem either too ignorant or afraid to answer

Now...how about discussing why--time tables or benchmarks of some sort may be necessary for a government who has no qualms in letting our men die to stabilize their country--while they go on vacation. Because THAT is the real issue and one neo cons and Bush FAIL to address in their beloved war scenarios.

This is your last chance to act like an intelligent person or be relegated to IGNORELAND on this board. If you really want to have the GOP taken seriously--grow up and dialogue or be swept away like the deitrus you represent.

Let me get this straight: the Iraqi lawmakers are negligent because they are looking at taking a two-month vacation with key legislation still being worked on? Is Rep. Shaps kidding???

And just how often has Congress rose from session with important legislation still stuck in commiottee or yet to be voted on? How often has legislation been left to die because the House of Representatives has risen to go off to their respective districts? Just how hypocritical can the Washington politicians be for criticizing Iraqi politicians for doing just what they themselves do all the time?

To Toldyouso21,
Both Republicans and Democrats Congressmen are criticizing the Iraqi vacation plan. READ THE ARTICLE.
FYI- I live in North San Diego, 5 miles from Camp Pendleton. I bump into Marines on the weekends and buy them beers. They don't want to lose or quit and are mad as h#ll over Reid's comments and consider him a traitor. If you don't believe me, come to San Diego and ask

I've got over 7 people in my immediate family in the military and even more from my Church--they and their friends want out. You will find soldiers for or against depending on their personal mindset about the war. In the end--if there are no consequences--people are not pushed to produce--Republicans and Bush want a war with no consequences for not even setting goals--that is a formula for eternal occupation and losing.

"If they go off on vacation for two months while our troops fight %u2014 that would be the outrage of outrages," said Rep. Chris Shays, R-Conn.

What a lying hypocrite. What is outrages? Bush and the Republicans just sent the message to Iraq--that they can take as long as they want, accomplish as little as they want, and do it on the American dime with American lives on the line. So what is wrong with them getting a little R & R? Why not? according to neo cons--Iraqis have all the time in the world. That is what vetoing benchmarks and time tables do--it let's people know they can play the game however they want--with no consequences. Looks like neocons are being checkmated and made to look like idiots and dupes by their own puppets. lmao

The overwhelming assessment by Asian officials, diplomats and analysts is that the U.S. military simply cannot defeat China. .
Posted by lars008 at 03:08 PM : May 03, 2007

Forget the Democrats and Independents wanting to quit--anyone looking at the actions, waste of money, lives and sheer incompetence of the last 4 years--ANYONE around the world would conclude the same thing--even if we did not want to leave--they would still assess that we could be defeated--even if we fumbled, bumbled, lied and spent every penny we made--and stayed for 50 YEARS. The reason? We don't know what we are doing...THAT is abundantly clear to anyone from any Country--everyone except that is, Neo Cons and Bush. They believe in eternal "Do overs" and time outs.

That's convenient that you keep your own beliefs private, but your OK with dragging other people's beliefs out in the open for discussion, based on your bogus speculation.

They WANT WAR with Iran, Syria and any other middle east country that does not bow down to them. Why??? Because of the oil reserves and Israel. That is the truth at the simpliest level. Every other reason starting with WMD IS A LIE. START THE IMPEACHMENT PROCESS TODAY!!!!!!!!!!

This assessment (if it exists) is probably pretty accurate--but it is not based on when we surrender or if we surrender--but on how bumbling, inept and poorly we have been found to execute wars. Remember we did not execute the World Wars, we were the relief after letting them rage on for years without us. We did not win by simply military strategic brilliance and planning. A lot of our victories was due to the fact that Germany, Italy and Spain were overstretched and yes...TIRED. Even in Vietnam--we were the relief team for the French--each time we were associates to other's war effort and though we were needed, we did not plan or orchestrate those wars. In the final analysis--the world is seeing that when we have to fight on our own, with no other country--or when we lead--we are not very good. We can best be described as that really huge guy on the team--like refrigerator Perry--great in the short term and good for tackles--but definitely not quarterback material. We have the weapons and the money and the manpower--but alas, the world now knows we lack the acumen for truly winning a war. And winning is simply not shock and awe--it requires getting a defeat from your enemy and rebuilding to the winners demands and specifications. Not something the Iraqis are prepared to allow us to do.

omg - what is it going to take for some of these dolts to get the message that these Iraqis are just not with the program? Hello, is anybody home?????

While the Iraqi government is off on summer break, Repubs need to head out to their nearest Borders and pick up a copy of 'He's Just Not That Into You' and read the writing on the wall, because you're getting played for a fool big-time . . .

People like you join Amnesty International. Amnesty International b!tch#es about Guantanamo Bay, but doesn't have the b@lls to criticize the Chinese government for forcing prisoners to undergo organ transplatation, nor do they criticize the Russians for the gulags in Siberia or even the beheadings of middle East terror organizations. People like you prey upon those you perceive to be weak, like the Christians.

it is not a good idea for them to want more wars--since we cannot even hold what we have now. It is an established fact--no imperial power can occupy or hold a country without the express cooperation of the local population. Even though we do have a collaborating government in Iraq--we do not have cooperation of the public--and it is they who make or break an occupation. And our elections we had them have don't count. Since Hitler, it is routine for puppet governments to be established and to proclaim the legitimacy of such governments--but it is all a sham.

There can be no legitimate Democratic government under an occupation--because the government does not and cannot follow the will of their own people--but must do the bidding of the occupier. If the Iraqis had their way, since over 80% wanted us to leave--we would have been gone.

So it is not a good idea for Bush et al to want more wars--the ME is notorious for not bending or giving in to occupiers, not after 4 years or 40 years--ask Israel and the Palestinians.

thanks to the demonic-rat surrender monkeys...

The overwhelming assessment by Asian officials, diplomats and analysts is that the U.S. military simply cannot defeat China. It has been an assessment relayed to U.S. government officials over the past few months by countries such as Australia, Japan and South Korea. This comes as President Bush wraps up a visit to Asia, in which he sought to strengthen U.S. ties with key allies in the region.

Tokyo Governor Shintaro Ishihara has gone public, warning that the United States would lose any war with China.

The governor said the U.S. military could not counter a wave of millions of Chinese soldiers prepared to die in any onslaught against U.S. forces. After 2,000 casualties, he said, the U.S. military would be forced to withdraw.

Bush has stated that if we fail in Iraq then all the oil (the 3rd largest reserves in the land) would fall under the control of Islamic extremists. Posted by toldyouso21 at 02:44 PM : May 03, 2007

toldyouso21, do you have an exact quote for that? I hadn't heard this. Posted by roger_inkart at 02:52 PM : May 03, 2007
