When an entire administration sidesteps or ignores subpoenas, when laws are asked to be written (2006) to grant immunity to war crimes and for eavesdropping--, When records of REQUIRED communications are deliberately placed on nontraceable computers and when the info for those computers is deliberately erased...when the DOJ begins to hire and fire those who are not in step by party instead of by merit--, when International laws must be ignored and we must abdicate membership due to what we are doing (Geneva Conventions, rendition, torture, world court*) THOSE things are subversion of the Constitution (see 11th amendment and corresponding article) unprecedented in our history. As an Independent, I am disgusted and yes, worried about those subversions--and it is not lost on me that they took place under a Republican President and Congress--this should bother you also--no matter which party you are from--it especially should bother Bush apologists, since, if the Democrats take the Presidency, all the new dirty tricks can be used against Republicans like they are now being used against Democrats. Or is it only bad, when it is done TO you? - Reply to this comment
- Throw in the "Federalist Papers" too, that is a great source for clearly explaining the intent of the Constitution and the very limited powers the Government really has.

War has been declared on Christians, Jews, non-Muslims and secularists worldwide by Islamic extremists...simply because we are infidels according to their belief. As Islamic fundamentalism spreads its tentacles worldwide, it is crucial for the people of the Western world to understand the danger, know what to expect, and know what to do about it.
Threats and realities of forced conversions to Islam, beheadings, torture and murder are quickly becoming commonplace. They%u2019re rarely mentioned in the news and when they are, it%u2019s with a disclaimer%u2026the word %u201Cinsurgent%u201D has replaced the truth of %u201Cterrorists.%u201D

- Why Iraqi lawmakers need to stay and hammer out a few things:
Our gov. wants to debaathicize the Iraqis--allow many in the insurgency into the gov., military or police, share the oil revenues and begin to provide services for all Iraqis--to take the most powerful tool away from the insurgents (that of malcontent) that means laws need to be agreed upon and get passed. Our idea is that people who have jobs, food and hope tend not to want to blow themselves up, or destroy their country--so it is critical that the Iraqis get to that table and get those programs moving. Bush has been asking for just such progress for the past 3 years but many Iraqis don't like the compromises or sharing so they need to stay and hammer all of that out. Hope this was not too complicated or much of a shock for you. Your lack of knowing this does explain a lot why people of your ilk endorse and support Bush unthinkingly--just as most of us suspected--you really do not know any better. - Reply to this comment

- What does there legislature have to do with stabalizing there country and policing the streets? Posted by notblue at 04:02 PM : May 03, 2007
Glad you asked that question since it is obvious that your particular sources for information have woefully failed you in understanding the situation in Iraq. Most of the insurgency is said to be traced to malcontents of the Sunni factions who face high unemployment in their enclaves, no utilities or share of the revenues. One of the points continually made by Iraqi experts is that the Sunnis have nothing to lose by continuing the fighting. The see themselves as shut out of the political process and the oil sharing revenue as it exists only allows for Shia and Kurds to benefit and would leave Sunnis a destitute Welfare state.
Even Bush has said, that equitable allocation of oil revenues is necessary as is providing jobs and rebuilding Iraq and also providing infrastructure to Sunni neighborhoods which right now are left without trash pickup, sanitation, electricity or heat or fresh water. These things cause a great deal of the anger and can be traced to the biased position of the ***** Majority government which tends to punish all Sunnis for the actions of a few. And if you want to point fingeres at fringe politics, the radicals who would riot, destroy property, and cause general mayhem for the "cause" are firmly on the far left. I will sight more examples of extremism from the fringe left that would be allowed would fit in this space.

- We shall go on to the end, we shall fight in France, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender, and even if, which I do not for a moment believe, this Island or a large part of it were subjugated and starving, then our Empire beyond the seas, armed and guarded by the British Fleet, would carry on the struggle, until, in God's good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old. Winston Churchill Speech in the House of Commons (4 June 1940)
Never give in%u2014 never, never, never, never, in nothing great or small, large or petty, never give in except to convictions of honour and good sense. Never yield to force; never yield to the apparently overwhelming might of the enemy. Winston Churchill Speech given at Harrow School (29 October 1941)

- Toldyouso, you leftwingers constantly proclaim democracy in the middle east won't work because there is a different culture there that doesn't mirror our Amrican values and standards or perception of what democracy should be. Now that they have decided to take a break from building a government similar to uor which took America many decades to do you compare there vacation by our standards. It is incredible to me how thw left plays both sides when it suites there argument. What does there legislature have to do with stabalizing there country and policing the streets? If your view was a valid one then every time our legislators took a break or a vacation which happens quite often during any given year, Americas military and police forces would no longer be able to do there jobs, hello! that's not the case. It's just another gripe in your quest to abandon the Iraqi people and let the militants have there way. You people that feel timetables need to be part of an equation that cannot and should not have in order to get it right. What if we had said to Churchil and the British that we would help them fight the Nazis but we are going to give it 4 years to win and if we don't you are on your own as we will leave after that time expires. It's ludicrous to say uit should take x amount of time and equally ludicrous to think if we continue to fight it will never end. Either we fight nad win or we quite and abandon the Iraqis it's that simple.

- Never, never, never believe any war will be smooth and easy, or that anyone who embarks on the strange voyage can measure the tides and hurricanes he will encounter. The statesman who yields to war fever must realise that once the signal is given, he is no longer the master of policy but the slave of unforeseeable and uncontrollable events. Winston Churchill

here is another one Lars: NEVER EVER volunteer or draft a foreign country into a war they never chose to be in--because just like other draftees--they may desert and leave you hanging or fight against you--since you forced the death, killing, bombing, and mayhem on them in the first place, without their consent. - "Arm yourselves, and be ye men of valour, and be in readiness for the conflict; for it is better for us to perish in battle than to look upon the outrage of our nation and our altar." Winston Churchill This call and spur to the faithful servants of Truth and Justice was quoted by Churchill in his first broadcast as Prime Minister to the British people on the BBC - May 19, 1940, London.
I would say to the House, as I said to those who have joined this Government: 'I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears, and sweat.' We have before us an ordeal of the most grievous kind. We have before us many, many long months of struggle and suffering. You ask, what is our policy? I can say: It is to wage war, by sea, land and air, with all our might and with all the strength that God can give us: to wage war against a monstrous tyranny, never surpassed in the dark, lamentable catalogue of human crime. That is our policy. You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word: It is victory, victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory, however long and hard the road may be; for without victory, there is no survival. - And just how often has Congress rose from session with important legislation still stuck in commiottee or yet to be voted on? How often has legislation been left to die because the House of Representatives has risen to go off to their respective districts? Just how hypocritical can the Washington politicians be for criticizing Iraqi politicians for doing just what they themselves do all the time?
Posted by Griezz at 03:47 PM : May 03, 2007
I actually have posted a similar comment--but as you know this is comparing apples and oranges. Our Congress does do similar things--but they do not have other countries men and women's lives on the line while they do it, and they are not on the payroll of another country when they do it.
The problem with Iraq doing it is that they are being coddled, fed, paid for and protected by Americans--who claim to be buying time for them to make decisions--so by leaving, it is like they are spitting in our faces and leaving us to hold the bag and possibly die--while they take it easy. Our Congress is saying--"while our people are over there dying for you guys and our money is being spent trying to save you guys--we will be damned if we put ourselves on the line--while you take a break. If we have to stay until the job is done--then your azzes better stay until your part of the job is done--otherwise, how can we justify being there or not having timetables? " Bush keeps getting undercut by his own puppets. - Reply to this comment
