Comments on: At Least 183 Dead In Baghdad Bombings
Deadliest Day Since U.S. Troop Surge Began; 233 Killed Across Iraq
- By the way - even though Guantanamo Bay is in Cuba, since it's a US Naval base it's considered American soil - therefore habeus corpus SHOULD count. And how does Bush get off saying that the prisoners aren't guaranteed the rights of the Geneva Conventions? He says the prisoners aren't prisoners of war yet he keeps spouting how we ARE at war. Aren't prisoners captured in WAR prisoners of war? MY blood's boiling.

- The Bush Administration's definition of "Victory in Iraq"
From www.whitehouse.gov
[Notice the complete lack of specifics that would be completely unacceptable in the private or academic sectors. "Short term....", "steady progress"... etc. Those terms could mean d*amn near anything. They can't be measured...]
"November 30, 2005 (over a year ago)
Victory in Iraq is Defined in Stages
Short term, Iraq is making steady progress in fighting terrorists, meeting political milestones, building democratic institutions, and standing up security forces.
Medium term, Iraq is in the lead defeating terrorists and providing its own security, with a fully constitutional government in place, and on its way to achieving its economic potential.
Longer term, Iraq is peaceful, united, stable, and secure, well integrated into the international community, and a full partner in the global war on terrorism." - Reply to this comment

- "...tell me where Bush gutted the Constitution."
We could start with veiled attempts to destroy the separation of church and state. Faith-based initiatives? With national religious "leaders" such as Pat Robertson calling for the execution of foreign heads of state, who wouldn't want such fine upstanding citizens running the show?! Great irony in Bush and company claiming to install democracies in place of wacked religious-government institutions in the middle east (see Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran), all the while steamrolling the same brand of religious losers into power in the U.S. Oh but Christians are different--so much more kind and giving. Whatever. Sell crazy on the 700 Club to mindless drones. - Reply to this comment
- Forgot to add the source of that last quote - it was REPUBLICAN Theodore Roosevelt in 1918.

- habeus Corpus - another constitutionally given right denied to those we imprisoned. The constitution said "ALL MEN are created equal" not just "all men in the united states"... ALL men! Do you not understand what "ALL" means? And just because we imprisoned people we think are terrorists in a land that is not on the mainland US soil, does NOT mean we have a right to treat them as less than human. Torturing them is WRONG. Keeping them imprisoned without access to a speedy trial (and being charged!) is AGAINST THE CONSTITUTION. *WE* occupied their land, *WE* became their prison wardens and *WE* put them in *OUR* prison. Even though it's in CUBA, *WE* should be responsible for them! Otherwise, what law will govern them? IRaqi law doesn't right?? Cuban law doesn't, right? US LAW should. But since you republicans installed REPUBLICAN ZEALOTS in the supreme court, you got your way. Torture is allowed by you, and indefinite imprisonment is allowed by you just as long as they're named an "enemy combattant" or "terrorist"... yeah, ok... THAT makes sense... NOT! WE ARE RESPONSIBLE.
The only ones denying responsibility are the steadfast republican slime that just won't own up to ANYTHING. They keep searchign for leagal LOOPHOLES instead of WHAT IS RIGHT. - Reply to this comment
- Franklin D. Roosevelt's Infamy Speech
December 8, 1941/September 12, 2001
The facts of yesterday speak for themselves. The people of the United States have already formed their opinions and well understand the implications to the very life and safety of our nation.
As Commander-in-Chief of the Army and Navy, I have directed that all measures be taken for our defense.
Always will we remember the character of the onslaught against us. No matter how long it may take us to overcome this premeditated invasion, the American people in their righteous might will win through to absolute victory.
I believe I interpret the will of the Congress and of the people when I assert that we will not only defend ourselves to the uttermost but will make very certain that this form of treachery shall never endanger us again.
Hostilities exist. There is no blinking at the fact that our people, our territory and our interests are in grave danger.
With confidence in our armed forces - with the unbounded determination of our people - we will gain the inevitable triumph - so help us God. - Reply to this comment

- don't forget... the Patriot act also allows for installing US Attorneys without congressional oversight... how'd THAT one get thrown in there? That's against the constitution as well.

Everything is against the Constitution when it concerns Bush. Only the Democrats know how to alter the constitution without oversight, it's called sneaking legislation in when we the people aren't paying attention. The Murthas, Kerry's, Hagels, Kennedys know how to do it. So does Pork Face Pelosi and her sidekick Lantos. - Reply to this comment
- %u201CTo announce that there must be no criticism of the president, or that we are to stand by the president, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public.%u201D

- Illegal wiretaps, 'disappearing' US citizens for years at a time while trying to find trumped-up charges. Like the Middle Eastern teacher from Kent State University who was kidnapped by the government and sent in an extraordinary rendition to the Israelis who tortured him before they realised he wasn't a threat and finally released him after weeks in captivity. Are those enough for you or should I continue? If these aren't acts against the Constitution I don't know what are. Presidential 'letters' that bypass Congressional approval or do the exact opposite of what Congress passes as law. Bypassing Congress to install cronies in top positions (Bolton, Wolfowitz ...)

- Oh, of course, the tortures at Gitmo - oh, I forgot the illegal wiretapping, disappearing people, all of this substantiated stuff supported by the ACLU, and other groups. I'll give you wiretapping -- however, they did mess up on that - why God only knows they admitted that. Suppose they were trying to be honest.

- Never, never, never believe any war will be smooth and easy, or that anyone who embarks on the strange voyage can measure the tides and hurricanes he will encounter. The statesman who yields to war fever must realise that once the signal is given, he is no longer the master of policy but the slave of unforeseeable and uncontrollable events. Winston Churchill
I would say to the House, as I said to those who have joined this Government: 'I have nothing to offer but blood, toil, tears, and sweat.' We have before us an ordeal of the most grievous kind. We have before us many, many long months of struggle and suffering. You ask, what is our policy? I can say: It is to wage war, by sea, land and air, with all our might and with all the strength that God can give us: to wage war against a monstrous tyranny, never surpassed in the dark, lamentable catalogue of human crime. That is our policy. You ask, what is our aim? I can answer in one word: It is victory, victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory, however long and hard the road may be; for without victory, there is no survival.
